Everyone is exaggerating the amount of money that a nice set of wheels cost. $5k? Are you serious? If that was how much a set of legit wheels cost then I'd have no problem with knockoffs, but that's not the case. In the case of the Civic Keef was talking about, for example, that's a difference between maybe $500 and $700 for the Rpf1s. Couldn't afford the Enkeis? Really?

In the case of say, a set of work wheels, then we're talking maybe the difference between $700 and $1100. Not really that big. That's what, another month of saving? The only times that buying the knockoffs really saves you that much money is in the cases of larger sized SSRs and Volks, and even then, its like $800 vs a maximum of around $3k. But by then, you're talking about some regular cast wheels vs some custom sized, 3 piece forged wheels, and you really are getting what you've paid for.

Everyone is quick to throw out the "elitist" and "high horse" terms like it's the new trend for people that can't be bothered to wait a little longer. I'm an elitist because I have more patience than you? I'm an elitist because I don't like the idea of supporting Rota with an extra $800 for the wheel that Work designed? In that case, so be it. I can't be bothered trying to figure out how those gears turn. It's disappointing to me the car scene has devolved to a point that someone is considered an "elitist" or a "car snob" or "douchebag" for respecting the work true car people have put into a product.

On a final note, I've said it before, I don't have ANY issues with people having a low budget for wheels. In fact, I had a low budget for wheels as well, because I was also doing a brake upgrade and a 5 lug conversion when I bought my wheels. So what I did was, and get this, I bought some wheels that look nice, do the job, cost me $500, and they are an original design (generic 5 spoke, really). There's PLENTY of them out there.

Isn't that what you're doing by saying this is a real car person and this isn't?
What makes someone a true car person? And who decides if one is one or isn't?
Does using a lift make me less of a car person than someone with a set of jacks laying on the garage floor?

Speaking of 5 spokes, I wish they matched new subies better.

Wait. Doing what? I never called anyone an elitist or douchebag or anything.

I'm not talking about this on a personal level, and rather an entire company as a whole. Rota's success is based off waiting for someone to R&D a wheel and then throwing it under a scanner and pumping out copies. No original products of their own, and they have never brought anything to the table other than copies of other's work. Screw those kind of people, in any kind of industry.

Work released the CR01 last month. It's a small diameter, low offset 3 piece forged wheel. Rota already has a knockoff less than a month later. How many people do you think are going to buy the CR01 wheel?

I'm not following what you're trying to say.

Our monthly knockoff vs legit discussion. 👍

Yup.

Now back on topic...

Me and a couple friends went for a drive today. Sadly a few hours later than when we should have (totally missed out.) One of the guys there said they had been driving since 11 AM.

Sadly these are all the photos I was able to take of the cars since they were on their way back to town and had just made a final stop at the top. They all had GoPros and one guy had a chihuahua-sized video camera and another guy an equaly sized Canon iirc. they told me they were from the DC area and came down here for the weekend (not the first people from DC Ive seen drive here either. *Remembers Caterhams*) I told them they were driving the best road in the area. just when I thought 33 had lost its popularity.

Fake rims are like fake boobs: they look like boobs, and to the untrained eye, they're just that, boobs. If you don't have real ones, but you want the looks, just buy fake ones.

That looks reeeeeally nice, I think I had never seen one with a hood scoop, I sort of like it, pretty discrete
It's also got vents on the hood as well. Looks viper-ish, not really fan.

Also, I think those hoods were designed to work with the V8 swaps, being right in front of the throttle body.

Those hoods have been around for a decade or more. I'm not sure the point of the scoop except for ram-air fro V8s, but the vents are definitely functional. They do an excellent job of evacuating hot air from the inclined radiator, oil cooler, and front-mount intercooler up and over the car instead of under it like stock. Besides the obvious performance benefit, I hear it also keeps your windshield from freezing in winter.

Well, it seems to be wearing drag radials, so maybe it has a V8 in it. As common as the swap is now, it's more difficult to find one of those still with a rotary in it. If it does have a V8, all the better. Awesome car.

The RX7 has an LS swap. It's making a pretty good amount of power, and I don't remember if that one is supercharged or not.. Almost all LSx swapped FD owners run that hood because it fits over the LS.. I think it's on some G Force drag radials iirc

I really like the idea of an LS-swapped RX7. It's a beautiful car but I have much more faith in the V8's usability and reliability. That, and I've never really been overly fussed on the sound of a rotary, but quite like V8s.
