I'd say buy 4gb of ram for right now. Then upgrade your motherboard and graphics card in March. I heard that things are going to be insane. Like 3GB graphics cards as a lower and things higher than that will be out too.

Are you monitoring your GPU temp? I was having some issues and turns out one of my card's fans wasn't spinning up or something. Watched GPU1 be 72C and the 2nd creep past 90C as the screen started to have some ghosting effects. Pulled into the pits (oh the realism!), alt+tabbed, brought up Precision and jacked both fans to 100% (from a supposed 85%). Couple laps later I'm at 64C or so...Call it a radiator fan replacement. Haha. Still finished 8th or something, so better than losing a ton of iRating. That's been falling enough on its own lately. :(

So with these Daytona events coming up and knowing its going to be used a lot anyway, I'm thinking I will buy it, VIR, and the Mustang shortly to get the 10% discount.

Sweeet, did pretty good in the next race right after that I earned some more iRating. 👍

Problem!! I was holding 4th place but then my computer hitched and I went into the grass. I ended up finishing 7th place :ill:

I only have 2GB ram. I am thinking bout running over to FRY's electronics and upgrade to at least 4 GB ram. Anyone else gets the occasional hitch? I've really only seen this at Phillips Island and maybe SPA :(

I have a quad core computer (2.4hz), 2gb ram, and the nvidia geforce 560ti (1024mb ram).

iRacing barely use half my video ram so I am thinking it's gotta be system ram

Overclocking my cpu is an option as well.

As stated, RAM is inexpensive, so I would pop in an additional 4GB for good measure.

I just had my first oval race where someone didn't wreck before the pace car pulled off. We didn't make it a full lap though before about 5 people got taken out. I can't wait to get out of rookie and have some decent oval races. Is there a way to quick track out of rookie oval?

Drive slow, way outside of the normal driving line, and watch your rear-view mirror to avoid bad drivers coming in from behind.

Other than that, I can't think of any way.

thanks I installed up to 4gb ram now. Cant go over since I'm still windows 32-bit atm :ouch:

Can we adjust that system memory load slider or should I leave it at default? Going past 1100 gives a warning

I didnt think it was that but its worth checking. I'll get latest driver too

Run endless time trials by yourself? It's really, really boring though.

I have 8GB on a windows 7 64-bit system and I received the same warning. My guess is that that warning is unaware of how much RAM your system actually has and is displayed regardless by default. Crank it up!

Thanks guys I will do that for sure then. Hoping my next big race will go smooth.

Ugh, someone posted another vid with my HPD in it. I'm the black & white stripped hpd. Notice the wreck. to give you guys some context my car was damaged from that pileup vid I posted earlier. So I was a lapped car and tried to move out the way to let faster hpds by:

edit: That vid got posted cause the white & green HPD that ran into all of us blamed the GT car for causing the wreck. Well something like that. So the GT car driver posted that clip.

My p-meter has a v6ery small, constant grey bar that I haven't been able to get rid of. I read up on it a bit and know it means I'm having soft page faults. Do a lot of other people have a small grey bar, or should I be able to get rid of it?

I have an i7-2600k CPU, a GTX 560Ti 1GB GPU, and 8GB of RAM. I normally have the system memory slider maxed out and the GPU slider at about 1GB. I tried reducing the GPU slider to 800mb and the system memory slider to 1300mb with no success.

I have most graphics set to max, but I turned off depth of field (for replays), turned off shadow volumes, turned off mirrors, turned off higher detail in mirrors, set crowed to low detail, capped FPS to 100.

Any ideas other ideas, or should I just not worry about it?

Depends how many screens he is running. Even my system (basically the same, but 2x 560Ti and 16GB RAM) drops below 100fps at 5760x1080 with all graphical options on. No worries with my new setup though, since I'm only running 3840x720, everything is maxed and still running 200+ FPS.

I don't think the oval tracks have time trials do they?

Yeah they have them. For the legends I think it's 10 clean laps. To get your license rating up that way you have to grind out roughly race distance which is 40 laps on your own going round an round in circles (ovals). Very monotonous, much more fun with competitors!

This week the Lotus 79 series will be racing at Laguna Seca. I can already predict the corkscrew will be a nightmare.

@bevo, bad news too is that SR earned in TTs is much less than the races. If I could just figure out how to drive ovals again with the Legends on the NTM I'd pop in there and see for myself. Just need to set aside a day or two to relearn.

but anyway hang in there. Late models ovals seemed really clean. I did one at Iowa this season and I think it was perfectly clean for everyone.

Does it affect the framerate or something? With the computer you have there's no need to turn anything off.

I'm only running one 1080p screen. Once at Laguna with about 20 cars my FPS dipped into the low 90's. It was when the sim first loaded, so not sure if that matters. (Does it take an perceivable time for windows to adjust the power settings to get the CPU and GPU running full power?)

I forgot to mention that I was getting yellow p-meter spikes that filled have the meter several times every race. That combined with the solid grey caused some concern. I have nothing to compare to so I don't know if my sim is running as smooth as it should be.

I do not know what it means, but for reference I have a vastly lower-powered machine and run 1080p with no issues at all. 100+ fps with most settings turned up.

Did you read though the iRacing forum's optimisation guide?

I learned something tonight about rookie oval. Do not try to pass anyone no matter how high or low they're line is on the track. One at boston and one at daytona. Both races I stayed back and didn't try to pass anyone. Got into the top 10 in the first couple laps because of wrecks. In both races I got in a group of 3 and ran about half the race and pushed toward the next group. Both times I tried to go inside with the guy in the middle of our group and both times after he got by, the front car shot down and ran me off the track.
I really am enjoying this oval racing, but the lack of track presence is driving me crazy. I also learned that you have to turn the force feedback way down, or your arms will be jello by the end of the race:)

You have to be super careful with rookie oval. I'm nearly out of it now, but I agree that it's tough. I now refuse to try and pass anyone without at least a couple of laps of observation so that I can scope out their lines and make sure they're able to control their car. Otherwise I'll just back off and wait for them to wreck. Generally, any time anyone is within 0.5 sec I'll run high and let them past. I think it's much safer to have someone in front of you where you can watch them.

Stupid stuff still happens, but you've just got to put yourself in the best position to try and avoid other people's incompetence. It's like defensive driving on crack. Forget about winning, finishing a race with 0 incidents is way more difficult and more rewarding than winning. :sly:

I have read it a few times and tried everything it recommended. I also read another post saying some people can't get rid of the grey p-meter bar (soft page faults), which may not be a bad thing. I'm still getting flashes of yellow every once in a while with everything cranked up but FPS are still 100+ in race so I guess it's not a problem. I even OC'd my i7 to 3.7GHz with no improvement. Oh well.
Thanks for the help!

On another note, today I took some advice from another racer and started the skippy summit point race with only 7.9L of fuel............. and I ran out of fuel on the second last lap when I was in second place lol, but I wasn't the only one. I almost babied it to the checked flag but failed. Lesson learned. Test fuel myself or start with the default.

I always put a safe amount of fuel during races to avoid that, and those estimated laps numbers are a bit tricky depending on your driving style.

I should race the Skippy at Summit Point today.

I bought the Mustang the other day for the Daytona events coming up. I was testing it there and had a lower fuel load. When my spotter told me I had five laps remaining, it displayed about 5.5. For fun I decided to start lifting early, using a little less throttle on parts....And I finished that extra lap. I would have lost lots of time but maybe less than an unplanned pit stop.

I feel it is best to solve this issue and I have your solution. Just trade your non-performing machine for mine which works absolutely fine. My machine is far lower spec than yours, but ALL IMPORTANTLY no worrying bar on it! :)

Shame about the fuel, but nice job on the race.

Had a good race just now with the Skippy at Summit Point. I didn't have time to qualify as I just practiced for about twenty laps so I started at 14th of 15 drivers.

First lap I was pretty cautious just trying to avoid the wreckage which is bound to happen at this track, at the end of the lap I was already 8th. :P I managed to do some overtakes and some drivers in front spun a few times, making me finish in 2nd.

What you have to remember with the Skip Barber car is you have to use the gas pedal for steering almost as much as you use your wheel. Most people say it's difficult but that is only because they let off of the throttle to much or too abruptly. Just remember that the gas pedal is your friend and you will do just fine.
