Just show them this thread, show them this entire section in fact. Tell them about the iRacing demographics and that it caters a more mature market. I still don't see why you can't just get a pre-paid debit card to be honest...

Do any of you guys have any video's or even could you just type your personal experience with the game down here so I can show it to my parents? Sort of like a recommendation mentioning that they're a reliable well respected company and if you've had no problems with fraud etc. (I hope not) please say so. I'd be so grateful 👍

iRacing is a reputable company and I have had a good experience with them. I have never heard any report of fraud concerning their service.

I think you need to look into getting a pre-paid debit card like people have mentioned here already. Just give your mom money, and have her buy you a Visa Gift Card that can be used. That way she doesn't have to worry about her own credit card.

Agreed, she is probably worried about online purchases. Just go this route and give her a bit of peace of mind. iRacing is been arround for quite some time now and it is a great service and exellent comunity to be a part of.

My mum is kind of just shouting at me saying 'end of conversation' and won't answer any of my questions, even though I haven't even raised my voice and am trying to keep it civil. I'll chat with my dad, he should understand that a company with links to NASCAR, Indy, Ford, VW, GM, McLaren, Lotus and Williams is hardly a rip-off merchant.

It should be apparent to you that your mother's viewpoint on the matter is not going to be changed by the words of complete strangers on the internet.

You've been given plenty of information to use as a defense:
1) BBB link shows ZERO billing issue complaints and only two complaints.
2) There are CURRENTLY about 30,000 subscribers to iRacing, so only two complaints from tens of thousands of customers is telling of their credibility.
3) The 18:10 mark of the following video (which was posted just a few pages ago...) shows the champion the iRacing NASCAR series winning $10,500.

Seriously, it's not really that hard to show that a credible business is credible. If you can't convince her using the above information then it's hopeless, in which case you are best off following the alternative already given to you:

Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks a million guys, using the info on here I've swayed her round to believing that it is in fact a credible business and a reliable site. She's going to use paypal to do the transaction tomorrow, once again thanks for all the help 👍

who's to blame?

Red car. It looked like you blew on by him, but chopper view shows you didn't. He was in the middle of the course while you tried to run an inside line. And it is always the passing car's responsibility to make a clean pass, and the other driver's responsibility to hold a predictable line for when that pass attempt is made. If that was the last lap and he was ahead of you (not lapped traffic), well, "that's racing".

Replay also looks like your rear end went loose and touched the front of his car while he held a steady line in the middle of the track.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy Road America for the this week's skippy series race. I've watched a few videos, but I'm hesitant because it's probably not next seasons schedule and I'm trying to buy tracks strategically to minimize cost. Is it a must have track that I should get regardless?

I don't have Road America yet but it seems like a very fun track and it's widely used in most Road series on iRacing. When I buy some more tracks RA will probably be one of them.

If you plan on advancing to faster cars, then buy Road America. It is used in almost every series, and the long straights allow for great racing.

Road America is an amazing track. Hopefully next season Indycar-Road-Fixed will run it again. It's Class C so that might be something worth investigating. But every series pretty much runs it. I'd say Road America, Watkins Glen, & Mid ohio are pretty much staple to most road series

I might show up to some RA practice with the Skippy myself this week

I put you down as my referral sandbox 👍

Started off with some Legends racing at South Boston, quali in 5 and my first race in 15 minutes :dopey:

Yeah I did do a couple of hours practice, there's not too much to learn with a short oval. Finished well down the field but boosted my safety rating a fair bit.

Had a good race with the Star Mazda at Mosport this afternoon. Had an incident on T1 with two cars hitting mine but fortunately it didn't do any noticeable damage, though I did end up on the back of the grid after that. A few cars abandoned still on the first lap and I managed to do some overtakes during the race, finishing in third. :)

Lotus is also running at Mosport this week, I'll try to race it tomorrow.

my new setup. :dopey: sure, not 100% ready yet. ;)

@Rudi, I'm going to have to go triple one of these days

Looking at my stats I've noticed in races where I've had 0 incidents I've placed really well. So that's a good thing. Plus, that'll get you out of rookie ovals. Although I've personally had great experiences in rookie oval. I just havent got a chance to play with the Legends car since the NTM. I'd like to start over with that car and then gradually move up to Street Stock

I played around with the Star Mazda at Mosport and had a little trouble keeping her on track actually. I'm amazed that folks can drive that car as fast as they do

As long as you avoid the curbs the SM is pretty much glued to the track. Also, setup plays a big role with this car I think. The fastest drivers run 1:13.0~1:12.9 from what I've seen and my top time is 14.6.

Thanks for the replies. I'm addicted to the skippy so I'm going to get RA!

WTG!

I have read a few complaints about the Skippy at RA in that the course has too many long straights and the car is too slow, but I really liked the event...then again I am not one of those blokes who can handle the F1, Star Mazda car! :sly:

I had my first RA race in the skippy last night. I even managed to grab 2nd place (lowest split) only by the fact of keeping the car on the track when everyone one else in my race group for the podium crashed out.

I'm wanting to get into iRacing but have some setup questions.

I currently race in my basement home theater. I have a JVC RS10 pj which is hooked to a DVDO Duo Video Processor then to the PS3. Audio is handled by a pioneer 7.1 surround sound. I have a Fanatec GT3RS wheel with CSP all mounted to a Rennsport wheel stand. I race sitting in a home theater chair and run a USB extension cable to the PS3 in the next room. I currently don't have a computer in my system.

I have an old laptop and my kids have an old computer that is in need of replacing. I though I could replace both and get a good laptop. Dell has a sale on an i7 laptop with a 2MB videocard. I'm thinking I could bring this down into the theater when the kids are asleep and hook it to the Duo with a 15ft HDMI cable and set it in the chair beside me. I could then hook the CSPs and wheel directly to the laptop by USB cables.

Will this setup work well for iRacing? Anything I'm missing or that seems wrong in my setup? Will I get good a good quality experience with this setup?

Well the laptop should be fine, mine has an i5 processor and with inbuilt graphics it still runs iRacing on the highest settings at about 80fps.
