IRS | Toyota 86 Racing Series | Mondays 9p EST | BIG FINALE TONIGHT: Dragon Trail - Seaside II

@aceboy127, @Clean Racer, @Nick Cannella, @Whitey093, @fastone371, @WhiteFlight1, @whiteusagi, @Herimopp89, @YaMainWrench, @Jim38737, @LuisT _99, @Jw_wk1010

Anyone else have suggestions or opinions? I'd hate to make a major decision without knowing if someone would be against it. I like Nick's idea, and after researching the real world series a bit more I see they do exactly that. Three lapped races set to be around 15 minutes. More chances to race on track, get more points, have more fun. If anyone objects to this please respond in the next two weeks as this change will take affect with the start of Season 3, December 12th.

I think it's a good idea when u have an alien like every group does people will tend to race one or two times realised they have no chance and will walk away the shorter races keep the group closer together which is more fun for everyone what about something like multiple tracks in a night everyone knows the car why not do something like we are doing Friday night in a special race let last place pick the track for the second race I can't say its a reward for being last but it will mix things up and really level out the playing field since the only track anyone could practice would be the first track so the second and third race everyone is basically even

I like the sound of the 3 shorter races as Nick suggested because it might give any newcomers to the series a chance to score more points and possibly a win especially if it's at a track they enjoy driving at, even if one of those 3 races they have a bad one they still have 2 chances to get some good results, as for the decal placement I'm not bothered by placing dunlop logos in the place you suggested but I think it would make the series look more professional having the uniformity amongst the drivers.

Sounds like the 3 15 minute lapped races is the way to go. 👍 Thanks guys.

We could test ballast one night to see how much this car is affected by it.

The only reason I don't want to use multiple tracks in one night is to extend the life of the series. Each race will be a different time of day so it will still feel different. I'm also going to allow a track to be selected again after two seasons. This means there will always be a minimum of 8 weeks between seeing the same track twice.

I can enforce a ballast by checking the member list when they enter and see their weight there. I'm more hesitant about using ballast though. I'd rather handicap the front runners by making each race a reverse grid race. That's a good idea @WhiteFlight1. Sorry @Herimopp89 but I'm trying to stay away from longer races for now. Maybe after a few seasons when I know we can get a full grid. That would help to increase odds of racing against someone.

U can still get full grids we do almost every Tuesday with a 90 minute race I like the idea and it could definitely shake up the points for ur weekly guys

So, what about every race being reverse grid? And the winner or top 3 needs to run Medium tires next race? That you can actually enforce

While I like the idea,...we are already running SS tires so moving a faster driver to SM might not work since the tires last longer. Most faster drivers will adapt to that change pretty quickly. That being said, I don't know a lot about Sport tires since I prefer not to run them at all.

Success ballast might be the way to go. Also, I prefer the race lengths as they are. It gives drivers the opportunity to make up for mistakes or capitalize on the mistakes of an equally skilled driver.

For example: What I find, in general, is that slower and mid level drivers struggle with consistency and focus rather than outright pace. For example, I believe that @herrimop is generally faster than I am. Even though I could conceivably match or come close to some of his faster laps, I can't do that consistently. But, if he makes a mistake I may have a chance to create a gap and maybe....just maybe...hold him off. But I need a lot of practice and a bit of luck. If the race is too short that chance may never materialize.

Anyway, I will show up for these races no matter what you do. Just to support your efforts and have fun. These are just my 2 cents. (I have some more spare change if you wanna hear it, LOL)

Of course that gets full grids, you have a whole SNAIL League to pull drivers from...

And u have an entire website ??? What's your point snail is huge because of how they operate and race if they have 4 divisions and u have 8 guys maybe it's something to look at in my opinion

All he meant was that you have a lot of active members. That's all.

That came off harsher than it was meant sorry about that my point was there are hundreda if not thousands of racera on gt planet snail has maybe a hundred in it if he does things the right way and continues to work with suggestions it can be bigger but there are things that obviously appeal more to a group like multiple tracks shorter races those are things that obviously need to be looked at if snail is pulling 40+ cars every Thursday and Sunday and he is only getting 8 we are helping a friend set up his own series on sat nights and he had more cars in his first ever event than this series has in 3 seasons but that happened because he was willing to listen to the racers and be open to trying new different things

Yes, all true. I'm sure he will get there. But remember, this series is only a few months old. That's why I think all he meant was that SNAIL has a larger pool of drivers and has been around longer. Then, there are the social reasons. Human reluctance to try something new/different, etc. I think @DesertPenguin is doing a great job of trying to appeal to as many as possible but stay true to the original intent of the series.

It's a tough thing he's trying to do.

I would be careful to differentiate this league from snail. Snail is snail, this is and should be different. If you end up mimicking snail it will draw unwanted ire and you cannot compete with what they have established anyway.

I think this league has a good start as something different and fun. Just keep polishing it and the grids will grow. When Snail GT-1 was a thing the grids ebbed and flowed and you have to learn to roll with it. You just switched nights recently. When you settle into a groove things will pick up a little at a time.

Also, I wonder how much sport mode has hurt leagues in general. I think a large group of people who would have looked into leagues in the GT5/GT6 days just jump into daily races now. Even snail is half the size it once was despite online “sim” racing being bigger than ever.

Yea agreed with whitey aren't Wednesdays the night they run the FIA races so we are competing with that right off the bat...honestly have a good thing going on here...I'm just not a big fan of sports tires lol but I suck it up and run it

Hey @DesertPenguin, you can take me off the list . I was trying to work out being able to race on Wednesdays, but I just don't have the time. Good luck with the series.

Series Announcement

Just a reminder, tonight with the Season 2 Finale we will be starting our lap races. Being that this is the finale I will have the scores up after the race. Give me about an hour or so and I'll make a big fancy post.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
Race 1: 10 Laps
Race 2: 18 Laps

Scores have been updated for all of Season 2. I'll have a nice write up tomorrow.

Fun Fact: If we didn't eliminate the lowest scoring week, Herimopp and CleanRacer would have a tie with 166 points. Based on average finishing position Herimopp would take it. 2.875 to 2.75.

Had a lot of fun last night. Was cool to meet some new faces and everyone drove great. I am flummoxed at how I was unable to control this car, on paper it should be an easy car to drive. Maybe I am just too used to the race cars with downforce at this point. Either way that was fun.
