Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

The point of this is not to start a flame war, but to state the facts as I see them. Overall, I am pretty disappointed in GT5. After playing it for a few days, it almost seems like I'm playing GT4 instead, the graphics are not terribly impressive and the physics are pretty much the same. Moving on, I have Forza 2 & 3 and have put numerous hours into both. Can I can honestly say, that both are better than GT5 (blasphemous, I know). Here are somethings that GT5 can learn from the Forza Series

1. Allow users to win credits in MP races, Personally, I have no really incentive to race MP, why spend hours racing in SP, to get the car and parts I want just to win a single MP race?

2. Keep track of stats and times! lap times and race times for the entire world are shown after every event, its nice to see how you match up against the rest of the world.

3. More car customization please...Forza is the end all be all in customization!! No Rim changes on Standard cars??? lame!!!

4. Make the custom soundtracks easier to manage in the game, super easy in Forza, hidden in GT5

5. We do not want 50 skyline variations!!!! or VW buses, get a feel for the cars that users want.

6. Adjustable difficulty levels is a must GT5 is too easy, scale the cars to the level of the driver. If I'm driving a 300hp car in the clubman cup, put the computer in a 300hp car!!!

7. Where are the drag races??

Someone else said it earlier, but GT5 has not evolved, I don't know if its ego, but they should have looked at Forza, stole some a lot of the ideas and improved on them.

I have tried it, just like your "This is your first GT", dont post assumptions. I have been playing racing sims since the old Pc racing F1 games on Windows 3.1. Dont know if your doing anything wrong, i feel every bump, curb, with my wheel, it is brand new.

Ive been playing games since chequered flag and pole position also but that doesnt mean I cant feel when a feature as been left unfinished - and Im in my 3rd wheel now . this one is about 4 months old so I wouldnt call it exactly old - and if I feel and ear the rumble strips in some kerbs and only ear but cant feel them in others - I assume that they didnt program it in every part of the circuits. but I will ask around to see if it is me

Im a huge fan of the series but Im no fanboy and I can tell the diference from a master piece like GT4 and good but unfinished product like GT5 better in many ways but overall worst than the previous 2

Umm, can you read? i already stated it does have issues. A game can still be good but have impefections, every game has them.

Yes I can read. You were discussing peoples expectations and how they came about. 'Perfect' was a word that was used several times over the course of GT5's development by those responsible for it as a reason as to why it was taking so long to develop. So a large chunk of peoples expectations can be laid at the door of PD. Yes the game was hyped by the media and GT fans but you can't deny it was also hyped by PD.

Where did I say i was happy and that Gt5 was perfect, all i said was the Handling/Physics are not issues. Don't put words in peoples mouth. And yes, people make it sound worse then it is, you make the game sound horrid, its great despite its flaws. You make the game sound like it's trash, come on, some objectivity maybe too much to ask?

That is my objective opinion.
Objectivity is a pretty bizzare concept on these forums tbh.. Prime example: When the first (not favourable) gt5 reviews were posted, many of the erm.. more 'dedicated' members here were quick to denounce and insult any reviewer that said anything negative or didn't give it less than a 9.0 and were equally as fast in proclaiming the greatness of the one or two reviews that gave a big thumbs up

None of these people had actually played the game themselves yet.

Fast forward a couple of days and a good few of those same people are back here going on about how dissapointed they are now that they've played it.
I won't mention any names, but I'm sure you guys know who you are and I hope you've learned something :embarrassed:

I sat playing GT5 with a friend last night who's been into every single GT since day one. He was even less impressed than I was.
Like I said, the physics are the only thing keeping me playing.

To end on a positive note, I *****n loved driving the P4, and had a great battle on nordschleife with an AI in a Mclaren GTR vs my souped up Scuderia last night. The sun does shine on this game every now and then.

Umm, they are selling a product, all products/games are hyped by marketing, welcome to the world of business. MS is hyping garbage kinect to the tune of 500 million, thats life. Sony/PD are nothing compared to MS massive over hyping bs. You want them to come out and list issues and say some will be dissappointed? Im hope you don't work in marketing.

I'm disappointed with GT5. I basically bought a PS3 a couple of years ago with the belief that GT5 would be the best driving game out there. GT5 Prologue seemed pretty good, so I was optimistic. Now GT5 is here and I'm wishing I still had an XBox (lost it in the divorce) to play Forza again.

Here's a list of gripes. Maybe somebody at Polyphony cares.

No launch control available on high end cars. Also no 'sweet spot' for launch like Need for Speed Shift. No bonus for technique or technology available.

No brake upgrades, just tuning.

The entire money system is wacked. Buy a car for $220,000 and then spend $20K on upgrades and the trade in is $75k after using it one time! It'll take FOREVER to earn enough to buy something really beautiful.

In replay mode there is only pause. No FF, rewind, or slow frame advance. Given all the effort that went into the camera mode, the lack of a slow frame advance or FF is just stupid.

Can't run off the tracks. Maybe some people like this, but it seems stupid that a few sticks and some tape are going to keep you from flying off a mountain.

Rally and NASCAR modes (in my limited experience so far) are both lame.

Player views are limited during gameplay. I used to like to drive in the chase mode view, but you can't zoom or even choose a set distance for this view mode. Most of the cars don't have an inside cabin view (shame), so I'm now using the bumper cam view. It works okay, but I could have done that with ANY other game out there.

The menu system sucks. I'm pressing OK for tons of reasons that I shouldn't have to. And how come I can't set up something that automatically changes the oil in a used car? That oil change routine is LAME.

Speaking of lame, the game music blows. Really blows.

There are too many stupid cars. What was I supposed to do with that little Diahatsu 649cc mini truck thing? How much time did they waste modeling that and a bunch of other cars nobody cares about.

Once you win an event, you can't go back and win it again for more cash? WTH is that about?

Paint options simply suck. And I can only use a color one time and then I have to buy a new car to get the color choice back again? Lame and stupid.

If I go ahead and finish a race, but don't win, then I have to reload the whole track again. There's no simple restart option.

9 out of 10 cars just aren't that great. Both graphically and they way they drive. I used to love the Skyline R34 back in GT2 or whatever. Now that car seems like a pig.

The AI sucks. If you restart a race a bunch of times, the AI acts almost exactly the same each time. And the AI behavior is just dumb.

The lack of an option to run a qualifying lap or series of laps is a HUGE oversight. Especially in the more advanced races where you need to start up front to have a chance on the first try.

The AI car performance is also weird. How come I'm in my modified 658 HP Ferrari 458 and I'm struggling to pass a '76 512BB. And home come my stock 458 blew away a Veyron and a Jag X220 on the Daytona oval? Stupid.

The lack of mechanical damage and the ability to seriously cut corners around the track are in conflict with the "ultimate driving simulator" statement made by the GT5 team. If it was the ultimate driving simulator, you'd think I'd be able to set launch control and driving skill would play more of a role.

I'm probably going to play GT5 a bit more and then I'm going back to the store and picking up a used copy of NFS Shift. At least that game was fun and I didn't have to work my ass off to have enough to buy any car I wanted.

I will say, however, that the kart mode is great fun.

Rally is awesome...................................... Don't know what your on about. Nascar i do agree.

I don't agree with him at all, but that is his opinion and I respect it. 👍 Rally is great, Nascar is crazy fun for me, I'm glad they put it in. I think GT5 is a great game with some problems just as all things in life has, but when it comes to driving with your wheel GT5 is amazing. With future patches and DLC GT5 is going to et better and better.

So when asked who raised people's expectations why did you fail to mention Sony or PD? I'm fully aware of what marketing is and how it works. What I was, succesfully, doing was proving your extremely defensive attitude to the whole debate. It's ok for people to say bad things about the game as long as they are reasonable and objective in their complaints. We can totally discount anyone that says the game is perfect or completely unplayable. That way the rest of us can get on with debating and discussing the game, both it's good and bad.

And just to set you straight, Kinect is not garbage, my wife and 3 year old daughter had their first console experience as a result of Kinect and absolutely loved it. So you would be right to say, 'I think Kinect is garbage.' but don't try and put it across as fact, your no better than those that say GT5 is completely unplayable when you do that ;)

Im disapointed whith the painting option, ( i need to buy a blue car to have blue painting and affter i use this painting i need to buy another blue car !!) thats radicoulus!!!!

You know whats really ridicoulus? Winning the Lupo Cup with a stock Lupo, only to get the same stock Lupo (not race version) as a reward. Or the Lambo challenge, you must buy a cheap Countach OR a very expensive premium Lambo for this event, but you get a standard Countach as reward. Prize cars really s*ck in this game.

Oh yeah, I wonder how I should do the classic racing car championship at deep forest. Yes, Im not so talented as some user on this side, but have no clue how to beat those Toyota 7`s without race cars like the 330p4. I tried this event with a fully modded 512BB, I won at monaco but I don`t stand a chance against those Toyota 7`s at deep forest. I also tried the Buik 62 special, it has more power then my 512BB, but the Ferrari seems to be superior (+ the Buik sound horrible from bumper cam).

This is the reason I changed my mind to post here on these forums when I got the game early. I did post a few things but there were some things I saw early on that just didn't feel like the game I was waiting 6 years for. One thing I knew if I posted would have this place in flames was how the driving felt closer to Forza 3 than to Prologue. Now I've been reading post on forums stating the same thing. I had read that before the game release , posted it and got
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4000961#post4000961
so I figure what's the use. I enjoy a lot of things with the game and I enjoy racing with friends as long as we don't "crash" then it takes us out the immersive experience.

Like someone posted, if this game came out a few years ago it'd be great, but after FM3 and even F1 2010 it just doesn't shine. It's equal to the other games but when you come out right before 2011 you can't be equal.

froza, F1 are not EQUAL at all when it come to a REAL driving experience, flaws and all, the physics, handling, are much more real and better on Gt5 then either, as well as the wealth of driving styles, and even weather. forza does some things better, but the actual main gameplay component, you know driving, is much better on GT5, at the end of the day, ill take that over a livery editor.

Yes, people seem to be neglecting this, at the end of that day thats the Most important part.

they got it right - the handling - but thats not all what we where told we would get

Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

thats the threads name and yet every time someone states their mind on the game you come and speak in behalf of PD or Sony like you work for them or something.

you enjoy the game a lot - thats great - I enjoy it too but I enjoyed the previous better and I want them to sort the small/medium bugs the game has so I can enjoy it more - thats why I got the PS3 in the first place - and if people like you keep on defending the game like that - that probably wont happen.

you enjoy the game - thats great - so go find a thread called - Is anyone else enjoying GT5? and have a ball and let people state their opinions - they are intitled to them

Of course everyone is disappointed with this game. It was after all in development an inordinate amount of time, and really didn't add to terribly much. Though, in typical PD fashion what is there is pretty darn good.

Should all of the standards been Veyron quality? I would have hoped, but oh well. So on and so forth. Yea, it sucks there are only 17 RM Cars, but oh well, GT4 had a whopping total of 0. So the time of day only works on a select few tracks it appears - did GT4/3/2/1 ever even have it on one?

Yes, I am disappointed. But, the core is there, it is still a GT game. Therefore, it is fun.

But many are still enjoying the game. And really enjoying it. I fall into that category. Disappointed with several small things, but all in all, it is still 95% of every other GT game.

Suddenly some think that isn't good enough though. I'll tell you this, even with crap graphics and no cockpits, less-than-standard-models GT2 is still one of the best games period. Now, why is that?

I haven't played it much, but when me and my dad wanted to do arcade duel I couldn't choose the Nurb.. What's up with that?

A six year wait, is too long. I wasn't dissapointed, I'm verry happy I have it finally, BUT, I wished there was more..

I unlocked the Nurmburbring Nordschleife by completing special event and licenses (just need to get my super license.

I am enjoying the game (have not been online yet); license load times and odd short section lessons 👎; mean I get my bronze and move on.

Premium car prices mean it will be a while before I can afford to buy; thus race (except in Arcade mode).

ANy review score by me will have to wait till I have completed all license tests and special events; as well as tride online racing (I want a stable of cars before going online).

Oh yeah; and I like the dirt and snow driving 👍

I bet its the first GT you play

the handling is very good thats for shure but theres definitly an issue with the force feedback - in roma for example in GT3 I could feel the change of the track from tarmac to the road made of blocks in this GT I cant feel the diference - and sometimes I feel the rumble strips and other times theres nothing - no feeling at all - its like they rushed that too and didnt have time to program the force feedback in every little part of the circuits
shure its better than most other racing games for the PS3 but its a step down from the GT series I played in the past

I play with a DFGT by the way

DFGT here as well and I noticed the complete absence of rumble over the cobblestones too.. You can hear the noise, but there's no feeling.

What tires were you using?

I've noticed that race tires have FF but comfort/sport (forgot which) do not.

No idea, it was one of the overtake races in the license tests.
Either way, even the old BMW run-flat tyres wouldn't have felt that dead.

I'm not that fussed anyway, it's just something I noticed.

I got a PS3 last year as a gift and thought GT5 would be out at the same time. Then I bought GT5 Prologue and was somewhat annoyed. I spent all that time to get the DP car and I cannot race it in any of the fun events - stupid. And the flashing invisible car (when you hit something or go off course) is stupid as is the "points" system. I grind away at the game to get cars but then I have to gimp them to be in the event? Please do not tell me how to play your game. After I buy it it is MY game and I should get to play it how I want to play it. I like driving a 650+ HP car in the Sunday Cup and doing donuts in the grass while lapping the field - and I want to do it in all the events.

I assumed all of this was because they (the great ones at DP) were, as they claimed, making the ultimate driving game. I was excited for the full GT5 and had high hopes that none of the stupid changes from GT4 to GT5P would make it through to the final version - oops.

The menus are awful. The load times are awful. No excuses here. DP screwed up.

The license tests are as annoying as ever. Hey DP! Some of your "fans" are in their late 30s and have jobs and lives. I do not have time to play for hours every day just to get the license for a race. Also, DP should assume everyone is playing with the PS3 controller not a wheel - and every wheel I have owned has S%CKED B#LLS. Or ever thought of having an "easy" mode. Not everyone who buys is a hardcore gamer.

All the cars should come unlocked and playable in the arcade mode - period. If I just want to have fun and race, I should be able to. GT mode has gotten silly. Cars are too expensive and the cool ones cannot be customized. I want to have fun. If I wanted a second job I would get one.

Finally, I am tired of the game freezing. This is another sign that the game was not ready for launch. Now it has been suggested (http://businessnewstrends.com/sony-...ternet-congestion-patch-coming-saturday/01277) I turn off my Internet connection. That would be fine except now I get a PSN login prompt every time I go a new menu.

I hope the cheat codes come out soon so I can buy the cool cars and do the cool races. I spent a good deal of money for entertainment. This is anything but entertaining.

So I guess I own a very nice Blu-Ray player that also plays Madden and Netflix - hooray for me.

thanks mate

I was begining to feel it had something to do with me and my wheel settings

Went online with a mate last night in free run mode. He went in did a quick lap while I watched could see his splits/lap time. Then I went in he came out to watch but couldn't see his splitimes only what I was doing. Then we both came out and the times had disappear so we couldn't compare. Am I doing something wrong? or is it impossible to see splits/laptimes online similar to F1.

All the cars should come unlocked and playable in the arcade mode - period.

Hell to the yeah.
Sorry to bring up 'the other game' again, but that was a great feature.
Plus being able to test drive before spending lots of cash would help.

Btw, am I the only one not having a problem with loading times? I'm on a fairly new 160gb slim so maybe that has something to do with it?

I dislike this stuff;

1. No online replay theater to watch with friends.
2. No inviting to a lounge, you just have to send a message saying to join.
3. No Online racing on a track you created (that I know of)
4. AI pushes me off the track/disqualifies me by hitting me.
5. Standard Cars!! They look like shined up GT4 graphics! And certain awesome cars being standard, and some retarded cars being Premium.
6. They should have just left the Top Gear track out if they weren't going to do it right. Rolling start is STUPID. It purposely ignores THE POINT of the track.
7. Painting the cars. Why did they do it this way?
8. Some cool old tracks should've been included and were not.
9. Course maker sucks bad.

Overall, the game is cool, but with the unbelievable amount of time they had, the game should take forever to beat, with tons of different races and ALL cars should be Premium. Even if they had to put less in.
B-Spec being separate is good, but I don't like it anyway. I thought it ruined GT4 because I ended up letting the B-spec win the whole game for me.

So I guess I own a very nice Blu-Ray player that also plays Madden and Netflix - hooray for me.

Well there are some great games on the PS3, I wouldnt get too down about it just because you think this game sucks. I dont think its that great either, but I still have plenty of games I love on my PS3.

shift 1 - great sounds - great tracks - great cockpit view - great sence of speed - great grafics - too bad about the fisics thow

F1 2010 - great grafics - great tracks - great career mode - a bit buggy but...

dirt 2 - great grafics - great tracks - great career mode - too short

but next year

nascar 2011 - looks great - especialy the damage model

dirt 3 - longer career - with all the greatness of the above

shift 2 - FIA GT1 world series and FIA GT3 world series licensed with better fisics (the ones intended by slightly mad studios for shift 1)

and F1 2011

too bad about GT5 - I was realy looking foward to it and it didnt live up to the hype

License tests are redundant now aren't they?
