It takes alot of skill to drag.
Before I started, I had no idea what I was doing. Actually for a good few months of doing it I got the hang of it properly however, I didn't make as much progress as I wanted to.

To people who haven't tried to drag and assume it's easy... It's not. I used to drift alot back in the old days of gt5, and all it required was timing and controlling the throttle and handbrake.

With dragging its completely different.. I am still learning things that I can improve on to make my cars faster, but there will always be someone faster, even though most dragsters hate to admit that.

In Gt5, dragging is the most underrated, competitive sport you can do. When you finally see how long it takes to make that "perfect" tune, you realize how much time you spent on it. It's ****ing very hard to figure out, alot harder then circuit or drifting.

One could say the same for circuit racing or drifting.

Being from Australia, it's even harder to find competitive dragsters because there not very good here..

In America they show a challenge but I always get treed so its never fair. It's annoying.

1 car vs. 1 car

is not more competitive than

16 cars all tuned to the same speed fighting for first place

If you drag then you will know the sheer pleasure of betting your car against the opponent, or also called pinks. Can't do that in circuit so your argument is invalid.

What do you mean i cant do that in circuit?

LOL..

"Hey dude, lets race for pinks, 1st place gets it"

Look, I just did it

Oh and by the way, who are you kidding, all you guys back up your save files anyway, you know DAMN well you arent losing anything.

Your argument is invalid.

EXACTLY!! and with pinks races.. whats the point.. I am owed like 30 different cars from people and no one has paid up.. I couldn't care less if they did anyway.. WHY WOULD I WANT A SLOWER CAR!!

*edit* I mainly only race pinks as a way to earn respect.. cause I see it as you should be using your best tune for a pinks race.. so if I can beat your best tune.. then I should gain your respect

Sorry, I don't back up my saved files. You can't use my line. If you don't know anything about dragging, then just go to the other forums and stop arguing about a subject you don't know. And if you reply to this, then you are a troll looking for an argument

Thank you! +100

Grip racing will always take the most skill. as for "When you finally see how long it takes to make that "perfect" tune" thats why grip racing take more skill because you might have a poor tune than the other people you race but you have the better car control and take the win.

Which proves you must have tuning skills to win in drag which also means the driver also had to have amateur to professional driving skills (shifting points) even if its in a straight line...anyone could just circuit race with a bad tune

I dont drag race but I feel like posting my opinion on this. (hopefully it doesn't get hated on too hard, and all of my opinion is about GT5 drag racing so please bare that in mind)
Drag racing does take alot of skill, probaly more skill than any other form of racing in GT5, but the skill isn't in the actual "racing" it's self..

Well a certain amount of skill is involved in it.
For example im sure if you gave a top tune to someone who never drag raced before in this game they would be very competitive, but of course still beatable by someone who knows when to shift at the right point and how to launch and is used to reacting fast from a ghost.

If you gave someone who never circuit raced in this game a top tune for curcuit racing/time attack they wouldn't be competitive at all, not evan close.

Its the skill involved in tuning the car that I find so impressive in GT5's drag racing scene, i've joined drag rooms and been blown away at the speeds some people are able to make these cars launch at, it literly blows my mind at how these people can achive it. So my opinion on drag racing? It takes a hell of alot of skill to be fast, probaly the most difficult form of GT5 racing to be able to be at the top.

Also just curious do any of you regular drag racers ever set up rooms for sports tyres for varity and to add a new dimention to the actual racing? or do you all solely race on racing softs?

This would require a whole new tune because your launch rpms would be a lot higher and you will trap lower and well if you did that there wouldn't be any competition lol... however it is an idea....

Finally a non-drag racer that gets it. :)

But as far as using different types of tires, that is a good idea, and some of us have done it, but it never really caught on :(

Fair enough I didn't expect many do, hopefully the use of different tyres might catch on one day. Would deffinitly spark my interest in joining drag lobbys more if that does happen.

You know, and I'm not sure if this has been suggested, as there is just a lot of "Yeah bro, respect" in this thread, but you could use stock setups on cars to see the "skill" involved in the driving. Would remove the variable of tuning, which isn't so much a driving/racing skill set and more the logistics of it. Fast circuit drivers are fast in anything, generally, but I mostly just see you guys talking about setups and gear tricks, etc.

Just food for thought.

That's because there are special things you need to do in order to be fast. You gain respect when you are fast, because every car is not easy to learn. It's almost like a gang. Beat people, you gain respect. Beat the best (or a leader), and you gain lots of respect. Yes, I've been playing a lot of GTA haha.

Exactly!! When I ran you to get into eclipse and I beat you with a few cars I started to respect myself and my tunes a whole lot more.. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best..

And exactly what did that have to do with anything I said? At all.

The act of drag racing itself takes very little skill in GT5... So if someone feeds you setups, you're set.

The "skill" comes into it only on the tuning side of things.

I wouldn't even say that. I for one KNOW that I have a good setup on my cars, but if I get tree'd I'm done. Also with some cars the shift point is very important so if I shift to early, or too late I will end up in 2nd place. :(

And tuning. Not as easy as you think bro

Tuning isn't really a skill, in the sense that anyone can just copy a tune. And tunes obviously have better forms. Would similar to arguing that someone with a better car would win.

Ok we are not talking about someone getting a tune from someone, sure that is not a skill.

We are talking about people that have the ability to tune, that is a skill.
