January Car of the Month - Skyline GT-R (R33)!! - Join in the Fun!!

@DolHaus my 525pp was mainly tuned at Autumn Ring on SS tires, compared to some of my Subaru's it is slower but not too much. I switched the power parts and made a 500pp tune as I said, I also have a 500pp R32 and R34 that have not been posted yet. All raced at Grand Valley Speedway on SH tires and nothing else changed, I think it actually is not too bad as is. Needs a little more rotation through low speed corners but is good as is. You will likely find it snug for your driving style, but I will leave it as is and look forward to your feedback.:)

Skyline GT-R V-Spec(R33) '97 525pp (SH-SS) - here

Tsukuba
Stock (525pp SH): 1:00.176
Tuned (525pp SH): 0:59.987

The first thing that struck me was how much better the brakes felt over the standard version, slowed the car much more efficiently without causing any drama. The car felt extremely pointy and eager to turn in initially but developed a fair bit of understeer on the exit to most corners. Overall it felt far more stable and easier to predict but needed to be driven carefully in order to avoid running wide on exit.

Brands Hatch Indy
Stock (525pp SH): 0:50.668
Tuned (525pp SH): 0:49.991

The added stability really helped here, the car felt much more at home on this circuit. I was faster in the looser, stock version of the car through the first corner due to the rotation being less inhibited but the tuned version was faster and easier to push with everywhere else.

Mount Panorama
Stock (525pp SH): 2:18.838
Tuned (525pp SH): 2:17.129

Again the stability was most welcome and the usability of the brakes was also appreciated. Had to be careful with entry speed, if you went in too hot then there was no chance of getting it back on line. The understeer was ever present but manageable, easy car to control but it just resists being pushed too much for my tastes.

Overall, easy to drive but hard to drive fast

That's what I thought, gonna have to fix that understeer mid-corner to exit:ouch:, really appreciate the feedback:tup:.
Think I know what the issue is, see if I can figure it out before I post the 500pp tune. Thank you my friend.:)

What tires were you running on?

Sports Hard

My guess on the cause would be a mix of the front toe out and too much front extension damping, it feels like the car isn't rolling as much as it wants too on the springs and is overloading the front outside tyre. Try switching your front ext with your rear comp and see if that helps đź‘Ť

For this car of the month I start with the GT-R (R33) '97, next I will do the Skyline GT-R R33 Touring Car. I worked this tune on Apricot Hill Seasonal running Sport Hard. As i”m not used to set 4WD I look on 2 angles for the tune. Keep the Weight Distribution as in real life and change it to 50:50. I tried both tunes on 5 tracks (on-line lobby set with very fast wear) Tsukuba, Route 5, Btand hatch GP, Susuka 2014 and Apricot Hill and get almost the same result, so far I haven't decided witch one is my favorite. I got 1.31.430 runing Hard on Apricot with Setup B.

Hello fellow members, I was thinking of doing this one, even bought one but I just don't see when I can find the time to do it, so I'll pass for this month. If I can find the time later on I will try to review the cars but I really want to finish a few projects I have going before. This is just an idea, if you agree and want to, we could do one of the past "Bowtie Games" challenges and all compete in it, sort of a mini championship, depending on which one we take the power advantage of some might melt like ice in Brazil. Like I said it's just an idea.

The Skyline GT-R V-Spec seems to be the car of choice so far, so I would suggest one challenge of your choice and have everyone who tunes that car give it a shot with their own tune and see how it flies. Up to you though, wet weather and no ABS should be fun again, but I digress.

- this car brakes already not imagine anything without ABS'll be fun.
so a well-adjusted transmission takes some.

I'll probably get cracking on these cars this weekend, with the new camber testing and a couple of special projects, time is going to be thin.

This is the best I could get out of the car. For this final tune I ad weight to get the Weight Distribution 50:50. This also bring power to the car 457 Hp. I have the tune tested on Tsukuba Circuit, Special Stage Route 5, Brands Hatch GP, Suzuka Circuit 2014 and Apricot Hill Raceway and for 500PP the results doesn't match with the greatest 500PP car as Miura RX500 and so on....... also the Skyline GT-R V-spec (33) '97 seems faster (Now I”m gonna do this one for next week).

A quick review: @DolHaus Skyline V-spec '97

I have come to learn that Dolhaus and I have different driving and tuning styles, I think I tend to adapt more to his, than him to mine but that is not a knock or a shot at him. My tunes tend to be more tight and stable, his more loose and on the edge of wild, and yet awesomely fun at the same time. I found this tune to be no different and just as much fun as his GTO from a FITT Challenge (the rare 10DC that a have given out). They tend to cause me to change my driving style, and after his review of my tune, I went back and updated mine. How would they compare? Well, I last ran mine on SS tires in the Seasonal at Apricot Hill, so the trans was a touch long. His had a 6 speed non-adjustable trans. Acceleration = DolHaus! Track, Autumn Ring, where I like to test most of my 4wd tunes. From the first turn I could tell that I liked my brakes better, but wow did his turn just that little bit better. This also showed up leading to and through the loop. Rotation = DolHaus! Exit seemed equal and if entry was too hot, I could slide the front end more on his but both could be over driven. Entry = draw. The only real criticism I would have for this tune would be the downhill right hander, if you were not careful, the rear could step out on exit, but not enough to hurt the tune. Overall = Dolhaus!

Conclusion:
Looking for a fun 500pp tune on SH tires, be prepared to smile and giggle. This tune will more than satisfy, even if you like your tunes a little more stable. This was is just a tick, the smallest amount looser but in a confidence building way. Yes, I have to admit, better than mine. My best time in a short session with gearing too long, 1:25.742. My best time in his tune, only 3 laps!!!....1:24.317. Take it out for a joy ride, you will not regret it.;)

A quick review, @mgo Skyline V-spec '97:

First, thank you for joining in the fun of The Car of the Month:D.
I looked over your tune and noticed it being a bit on the plump side, when building the tune I could not get the power numbers to match. I got 448hp @ 95.7% power limit. Also had to add window weight reduction (unless I missed it) to get to 1665kg. No trans settings so I just went with stock setting for Full Custom trans (180mph). Took the tune to Brands Hatch GP, having never tried one of your tunes and being unsure of the weight, I had no idea what to expect other than turn 1 could be fun or a nightmare. No problems, so nightmare avoided:dopey:. I found the extra weight to not really hurt the car too much and the extra horsepower did not hurt either. After one lap I pretty much had a handle on it and tried to settle in for a good lap. The extra weight could cause entry difficulties but slightly earlier braking fixed it. It could also cause a bit of a slide in some corners but at Brands Hatch this was a good thing, helped cornering by sliding through some of the faster ones (thanks DolHaus;)). Best lap - 1:35.061.

Off to the Seasonal at Apricot Hill.
Well, not as easy here, first turn was a bit tricky, and exit needed just a tick more patience before applying the throttle. After 2 laps, I adjusted my lines and took the lead from the 599. Never looked back and not a sniff of problems. Most issues with the tune were either my driving style or the extra weight. Either way, a very impressive tune for a beefer:cool:. Not bad at all. I have driven and tuned much worse, and that is not to say this is a bad tune. I found the grip level more than satisfying and the tune to be a fun ride. This leaves me to wonder how well your tunes would be if you gave that baby a diet? Best lap - 1:27.998.

Keep the tunes coming:), it was my pleasure to take one of your tunes for a little spin. And look forward to driving more in the future.đź‘Ť

Did you try your R33 at willow springs?

I didn't even think of that, lol.
I completely tuned this for and on Sierra, specifically section 2. Only because I love the amount and variance of the turns on section 2, gives you a good idea what your working on.
I will say this though, although you can add more power, I had very bad responce when I tried above 600. But if I can beat willow in a Kusabi at 526pp, I KNOW I will have no troubles with an R33 built for SS tires at 600pp, lol.
I am going to go find out now :)

Take it out for a joy ride, you will not regret it.;)
Thank you very much for testing and reviewing the car and I'm glad you enjoyed it

I always try to aim for neutral handling initially then add enough oversteer to give the driver options but not so much that they end up in the kitty litter. Easy to over do it though, I like a car that needs to be driven but some folks just don't like anything but absolute grip and it can be a thin line between fun and a problem.

Conventional (front heavy) 4WD's are good practice for finding this slightly oversteery balance, they're so forgiving with power delivery that you never really have to worry about the rear suddenly steeping out as long as you have a sensible lsd/TDCD. Not having to worry about power delivery so much allows you to focus on finding and tuning the suspension balance, you'll get fairly textbook cause/effect responses when adjusting the various elements so as long as you only change one thing at a time you'll be able to build up a picture of how to shape the cars characteristics. đź‘Ť

Thanks for this review Bowtie.
For now I'm in the weight (could be after hollyday season lol) :dunce:. Seriously, I started this way of setting the cars racing low PP with a friend who was getting over me all the time by doing this to get more power. But you are right
I had no idea what to expect other than turn 1 could be fun or a nightmare. No problems, so nightmare avoided. I found the extra weight to not really hurt the car too much and the extra horsepower did not hurt either.................. This leaves me to wonder how well your tunes would be if you gave that baby a diet?
so I'll tune the spec (R33) on diet. And see if I could get better setup. đź‘Ť

Skyline GT-R V-Spec (R33) '97 500PP / SS - review

First off, nice color, but haven’t I seen that shade before somewhere?

I was trying to think where could I try this, after a nano second of deliberation I opted for the Ascari track, might as well make some cash so let’s go to the Super - Ascari Race Resort 10-Lap Challenge.:sly:

Having used this track with my car I know there will be no issue as to who is going to win
smiley-taunt001.gif
, mere formality, but let’s see how it handles those multiple curves layout all over the place.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on who’s point of view you take, there are no issues on this track
smiley-sad010.gif
. If you take the curves according to the type of vehicle (4WD slow in fast out ) everything goes very smoothly, in fact it might just be a little to smooth, or maybe I was just feeling a bit too zen
happy-spoon-boy.gif
on this early sunday morning with everyone sleeping and not a sound in the house except for the purr of the R33’s engine ( or it could be that blue color). It does oversteer a bit, and as for your notice about the brakes, I had absolutely no problem with them. Even with the front tires wear down at 3/3, it was very easy to manage. The suspension balance was nice, and again had no issues with wheel spin out of corners, even when giving it full gas. Good tune, kind of sad though, fairy tales make

Laps 1- 5
