I wanted to chime in on a couple of points.
Pidgeon-holing goes both ways; I have certainly had good experiences in JP lobbies, but bad experiences can be had anywhere. It's not fun lapping (go figure) Suzuka East in a CH-and-NO-aids JP drifting lobby in a 340hp Sileighty and getting punted into the sand by a F430 Scuderia with racing exhaust every 20 seconds. I was the only standard car and the rest were Scuds, Spirit Rs, and NSX Rs. I swear that wasn't a rant.
As for FF drifting, I stick to the Taurus SHO. Great torque curve and wide-ish front tires allow it to be tossed around with eerie precision and it reeks of "rental car."
