That's part of PD's mystique. Let's tell them there's a surprise update coming then sit around the PC giggling at all the GTP speculation threads about it. Hotter...colder...freezing!...warmer...hotter...love the optimism on that one! but no, freezing again...

You forgot the part where they’re sitting around their PC giggling, because the change was only to raise the turn 1 kerb hieght at Monza by 10mm

Well that was interesting. Right at the start of the daily Monza race I got a red warning "you will be disqualified after the next shortcut" or something like that. Tried to avoid the carnage in the first chicane and so much for that race, not that I care too much, but the message certainly was interesting.

Wasn't until today in which I had my first real encounters with penalties.

Against my better judgment, I took out the Gr.4 Viper to Interlagos despite never playing that track in any racing game.

- Someone spun and hit me on the side despite my attempts to avoid them. Apparently my fault.
- Someone broke early into T1 and I hit them from behind. Well deserved penalty for my noobness.
- I got hit from behind at T1 and pushed well off the track. A miracle no-call.
- Got pushed wide off the track and I let off the throttle as a self-penalty. Sorry, that's not how it works! 4 seconds for me!
- I grazed someone's bumper on a corner exit by mistake but had no effect. The game was being overly kind.
- Received a small love tap exiting a corner. The feared penalty never came.

It doesn't seem that harsh but I'm only at B/S right now. I'm certain I can reach A/S (although my 1:38.3 Q time was almost two seconds behind the top guys) so if A and S drivers are being penalized more heavily, I'll be finding out firsthand.

Hum....

Since that the SR Penalization as changed again.. ("The judgement algorithms for the Sportsmanship Rating (SR) and Penalties have been adjusted.") :banghead:

Should´nt a new thread be started under the same issue.. bu regarding today´s Update patch????

As I think that we are all in complete darkness,,, regarding which has changed!!!! So...

Any one has any hint on this???? :scared:

Its not penalising side nudges like it was, I am completely sure. In fact I would say everything is less harsh, I accidentally tailgated someone right into the wall and got a 3sec penalty, Im damned sure it deserved a 10.

It was never harsh in B  - A and S it's just silly.

Well, penalties might be doled out less, SR down arrow doesn't appear either, yet beware SR points are still deducted in the background when other cars hit you. On the one race I did on Monza after the patch I got bumped into a bunch of times. I never saw SR Down nor got a penalty yet lost 5 SR points in that race. A bump with another A/S driver didn't result in a penalty at least.

I'm not sure why they chose not to make players aware anymore when points are deducted. This will only encourage bad driving again, then have people outraged that they got a red rating while 'doing nothing wrong'

Perhaps it's just Monza where you start with negative SR for entering the race :)

Yeah that makes sense, @Sven Jurgens ... thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering why 2 bumps and an accidental corner cut cost me 23 SR points yesterday, I guess there must have been more contacts in the race... Interlagos is nearly as bad as Monza, especially starting mid-back...

I find this fix to be the improvement i was hoping for (at least so far). Contact with me didn't kill my race. I had a following driver get real aggressive on the opening lap of bathhurst. He sideswiped me going into the last corner before the back straight. It was a light touch so no penalties either way. I passed him on the straight. He tried to brake late at the last corner, but he was WAY too far back. He rear ended me. No penalty for me! Yay.

So yes, this is what I like racers race and there's no penalties for being hit by someone else's bad move.

I tried the GR3 race at Lago and I got a 1 second penalty when I lost the rear and touched a passing driver. Again. Fair penalty. I lost control and so I deserved the penalty.

I still think better matchmaking is needed.

Not sure if its new or not, but had a classic today. So stupid it made me laugh, not be angry

Suzuka, smashed into the pit entrance wall head on. Obviously came to a dead stop and lost loads of time.

5 second penalty hahaha

I've been there and done that myself, smashed head on into the pit entrance wall, 5 second penalty and lost more time than that
trying to back the Grp 1 Audi R18 back onto the track so I feel your pain.

Laughed after the race at it though!

I'm glad it's an improvement, and glad you're enjoying your racing again.

I had a horror show FIA yesterday due to penalties being served, then a disconnect!!

I've not tried today, but hopefully it's another move in the right direction, and hopefully hasn't encouraged the dirty beasts back on track lol.

Well, today at least, there are people pushing the limits.

Yet, of the two moves attempted on my that were ambitious resulting in rear end collisions, both got the penalties and I didn't.

I did get that stupid track cut penalty at Bathurst when entering the pit lane, but I guess I need to be more careful.

I just did my first race (B) of the day. DR:S and A. Divebombed at the final hairpin, ended up off track and we both got a 1 second (mine for the off track I guess) but he came from about 2 car lengths back and used me as a guard rail.

It's the first night and people are all ready working it out lol. It's one race I know, but jeez, first race, first night and this.

Luckily I'm going out, but I'll see what it's like later.

Like I said in the other post, if they are going to deal penalties, they need to determine blame. If they are going to properly determine blame, they need to apply an AI solution.

...but we all know how good their AI programmers are :D

With today's three races at Bathurst I managed to get SR S back, after I was on very edge of C yesterday (Interlagos).

Only negative score and penalty was this, after pitting, it happens from 1:52 hrs to 1:53

Still not sure was it bcs yellow flag, what I believe it was - and what could/should I do in that situation (?), or potential cut (I think two wheels was on track all time)?

5.5s is too much whatever it was, I lost almost 10s bcs this.

It was because of going onto the grass while entering the pits

While the system is improved and less penalties are given out, it still tends to punish the wrong player. On Bathurst down the hill a guy behind me brakes too late then tries to overtake on the outside. He goes way wide, I take the corner slotting in behind the car in front of me and even though I leave a car width of room at the outer edge, the late braker starts accelerating too soon, over steers, and clips his nose into my right rear and bounces off the road. The game see it as if I punted him off in the corner and I get 3 sec penalty and heavy SR loss. Red rating for that 1 incident on a daily C.

I also had the biggest **** show of a start. Too many laggy players, auto drive stalls, bunches 8 cars together for release right before the final turn, some ghosted, chaos. I'm in the front of the chaos and try to make room as fast as possible. Yet at T1 a car lags into me, another bumps me, a third pushes me off the road into last place. Even though SR Down never showed, 15 SR points down the drain.

So far people are still reasonably cautious when overtaking. At least it's not back (yet) to the nudge nudge nudge out of the way overtaking style. Yet dive bombing is back, well never left really. Some are mistakes though, PD should bolt those distance markers down. Once someone plows them off the edge of road it becomes a gamble who really knows where to brake :)

How dare you pit?! Must be Nascar rules.

I think it might be a cut at the pit entrance. It looked like you went straight through the tiny chicane.

^^ this

why cant all tracks be like suzuka or interlagos where they also have markers on the walls in the heaviest brake zones in case the movable ones get knocked around?

Edit: I guess you would need walls though, huh...:irked:

Looks like it's what @UnkaD said, little cut happened, while I was looking flags and where is the Greek.

I'm not a tactician, more flat out :P

If track is only for me, I think I won't be crossing finish...

I wonder if KudosPrime stats are to blame for a lot of this. Maybe there is a reason PD didn't put a number in the game for DR/SR. I always see players referencing those stats when they win/lose some when calling out the penalty system.

I have always just gone on the Blue/Red SR Rating at the end of the race to see how I did. I assume Blue is up and Red is down, so why would I need to know if the number is 10 or 100. I think maybe players are getting too caught up in numbers.

I have had two incidents in the past week, one with another car contact, entirely my fault, and a 5 second penalty for hitting a wall at blue moon speedway. Both my races ended with Blue SR. I say this because I wonder how some drivers have only 1 incident and end up with -SR and I can have one incident and end up with Blue SR. Do you get more SR for clean overtakes/clean driving near another car? So after having my incidents I climbed through the field again cleanly and it gave me a positive outcome?

I wonder that as well. I had 4 incidents in my last race on Bathurst and got a blue rating. 2 of them here

First another A/S driver tries to bump pass, the game punishes him for it as he slows down after. I come out free.
Next one I don't understand, perhaps I'm over the line at 0:38 as I get what looks like a shortcut penalty at 0:44. I've never gotten a penalty for that corner, even when bouncing off the wall.
While trying to figure out what I did wrong I screw up my angle at the down twisty bit and snag that piece of grass that gives you 3 sec.
Frazzled I go slightly wide at the pit entry at the end of the same lap, add 3.6 sec. 8 sec to serve coming out the pit.

Perhaps heavy contact with another car, no matter whose fault, lowers SR a lot for both.

That's what it feels like to me.

I had a race tonight where I was wiped out on the first lap and had a double penalty. I then did eight clean laps, moved up the field, and ended up with my SR improving. You just have to keep your head and make the best of a bad situation.

I'll have to remember this when I come online racing tomorrow as just when I thought I was on the verge of moving up the
field I end up in the races where I go backwards so end up with almost no DR points on D grade and B grade sportsman.

I guess the penalty system is not perfect yet. Look at the pen i got in this race. Slight bump on Snow after he got a bit sideways, and boom, 3 seconds. Chance of winning the race almost over, especially with a M4 just behind me saving fuel like there's no tomorrow with not a lot of performance lost from it.

Before this race i did the nations one on the oval. I bumped and got hit at least 5 times, got no pen and even received a clean race bonus in the end.

Pens are better but really inconsistent.
