Karting in GT6

I wouldn't. Imo its a waste of disc space, along with dirt and snow tracks

Eh, I kart every now and then, but I wouldn't be upset if they replace karting with a wider stance on rally racing. It's very limited. I think Gran Turismo 4 had more...

I really would love kart to come back, it is so fun (and i'm not an expert), and playing it multiplayer with my friend just puts a smile on my face

It should be extended, have championships and a lot more races, as more karts (shifters mainly)

Right on. Sometimes you peoples take GT too seriously for the wrong reasons.

-more karts with brands such as crg, intrepid, tony kart etc...
-shifter kart (125)
-shifter kart (250)
-super kart
-fv 1200, fv2800 etc..
-short track dirt racing (modifieds, pure stock etc...)
-short track racing (mini stock, thunder stock, late stock etc...)

This ^^^ along with the current karts, along with several purpose built, real life kart tracks and a track creator with far more options and flexibility than in GT5.

This is an interesting topic. When you consider that many of GT5's tracks already have a karting circuit or even multiple circuits, things get even more intriguing..

Spa
Fuji
Tsukuba
Motegi
Suzuka
Le Sarthe
Nurburgring
Daytona

^these all have at least one, and some have multiple tracks/layouts. Refer to this thread for more info:

It would be a really big boost for Gran Turismo to expand it's karting experience, especially in the fun-factor column. I am in full agreement with you blokes in this thread who are down with this, and offering possible improvements- shifterkarts, karting in weather, more tracks, tire options, making it a part of your A-spec advancement, championships, better physics, etc..

BIG Ups!

I wish they would improve the physics though. The reason the back end spins round alot is because you cannot feel what the kart is doing. One major thing they missed out if one of the big things that you set the kart up to do. Lift the inside rear wheel. when this happens it makes the kart turn (no LSD, so axle turns at same speed across whole thing). Now because they haven't got this in the game, the only way they get the kart to turn is to slide the back. this mixed with the fact that you have no sense of how the kart is behaving (even from chase cam) makes them the most horrible things to drive.

I would like to see them back, but redone to a standard which makes them more realistic, and fun to drive.

I'd be very happy if they left it out entirely. PD spends tons of time on all this oddball stuff and you wind up with a core game that's very lacking because of it.

Agreed. Would happily sacrifice the track generator, all of B-Spec, Photo View, Karting and NASCAR if it meant a better core game.

One aspect I did like though, was the inclusion of rally stages, however bland the surroundings.

+1

I agree with a lot of the stuff i have read here, but this sticks out to me in a big way.

As fun as driving a car in GT5 is, the really need to work on the handling of them. They can be the most fun things to drive, but they are not accurately resembled in-game.

If they could fix the physics of the karts, give us a few more proper tracks and give them a bit bigger part in the game, they could have a great thing there.

In the glory days of hybriding, I was able to drive some shifter karts with 28-60 hp. My favourite was the 44 hp, 6 speed with a 10/6 brake balance on Sport Hard tires. It was much better on entry and much less likely to have the back end come around. I think the stock handling is dramatically improved with being able to adjust the brake balance as you would with a real Shifter Kart.
Here's a sample:

JP, you can't tell me that the "stock handling is dramatically improved" until the karts enter the corner sideways. It's how we have to drive in order to be fast.

Any UK guys here know if Silverstone or Brands Hatch has a Karting Track?

How about Ascari or Mt. Panorama? ;)

There's a small track at Brands Hatch < 300 metres. Ascari has a makeshift track on it's skidpad. Not sure about the others. The Karting facility that would really rock GT6 is this one and it's at a track already in the game. It's the Alain Prost Karting Circuit at LeMans, one of the finest karting facilities in the world. The "S" shaped tarmac on the top left of the pic is part of the big circuit.

Suzuka, Spa, Tsukuba and Fuji are all in the game and all have major karting facilities as well.

It's unfortunate that PD doesn't/didn't have the foresight to include those real world karting tracks in the game. I mean, they're already there to begin with... You'd think with karting finally making an appearance in GT they'd take advantage of things like that.

Of course I'm sure they're not modelled with a very high polygon count and have poor textures, but it should be very simple to spruce them up and include them as separate karting tracks. It really depresses me quite often how PD has so many great opportunities and doesn't capitalize on any of them.

Same thing with not including the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans... Why not include that track as well? It uses a good section of the normal course and you're already there taking photos and information, so why not add another variation that you're going to model (at least to some extent) anyway?

But anyway, back to karting, the lack of non-shifter karts and the presence of only one actual karting track (DLC, mind you) makes karting very boring in GT5. I know there are course maker tracks as well but frankly those are very bland and just not exciting at all to drive on. If you're going to include karting, please make it at least relatively interesting...

As photomode is a huge part of this site and the response to the announcement for an improved course creator was very positive, I'd say such a move would be very unpopular.

Your point about rally is proof that each thing suits different players. Karting isn't really my thing but I'm happy it's there, especially when you can create tracks for them that can be used by all kinds of cars. I like racing GT500s on the karting tracks I've made, so I found something positive to do with that part of GT5 even though I initially didn't care for karting.

I grew up racing karts, running in 4 strokes early on and then 100CC direct drive karts all over Ontario and Northern New York State. I was so stoked to drive the karts in GT5 and so disappointed by the crappy motor/drivetrain combo they used and the inability to change the rubber, and of course the lack of a 125 or 250 Shifter. Rido was kind enough to make me a few shifters with the first phase of hybriding and able to change tires and BB (as you would on a real shifter) and the karts came alive. I was able to replicate real world lap times on Tsukuba and Laguna Seca and the custom kart tracks actually became a lot of fun, although they were never quite what I wanted.

If they use the same kart model in GT6 they can put all the kart tracks they want in the game and it will still suck. They need a direct drive model as direct drive karts pull like a freight train even at lower speeds unlike GT kart which bogs down and sounds terrible. And of course a proper shifter kart is a must. Hybriding proved it's incredibly simple to do, all they have to do is get the hand animation right and make some changes to the motor and kart design and you're all set.

:odd: Maybe with more power it helps, but your just scrubbing off speed on sideways entries in that four stroke kart.

Shifter karts would be a great addition. Also it would be awesome to be able to tune the chassis i.e rear track width, camber, toe, etc

I didn't know Flamboro had karting :dopey:

Pfft, karts take up hardly any disc space at all, and the Gt5 hardly filled a single-layer blu-ray, they've got all the space they could possibly need!
The things that REALLY take up space whenever making a game are Sounds, FMV and Textures, the super high quality car models would probably be quite a few MiB each too, but not much in the grander scheme of things.

edit Absolutely YES to motor sports land! I loved that place in an elise, would love to see Gt4's driving park areas return too. As well as Gt3's Complex String, the best way to test any car's handling.

Motor Sports Land would be a perfect addition to GT6 karting. :D

Absolutely this track would be a karting dream. Two other things stand out from this video from GT2..

1. "Load Guest Garage" (yes please)
2. Dat telemetry....

Never try this but it looks awesome.
