2nd race didn't go as well as the first. Was fastest in 2nd heat but then we made a change and lost 3-4 tenths. And then a mistake on my part dropped me to 4th.
A guy was DQ'd for valve springs so that moved me up to third.

After participating in the monthly sprint race at Thruxton kart center, I had a great time. Me and this other guy that I had done a course with there was racing along with some guys on a birthday party, it was like being at lemans really. Battling for position whilst negotiating slower driers if a blast.

The first heat was a bit annoying. On about the 7:30 minute mark I approached a backmarker which thought I was racing him for position. This allowed the second place driver to close my 3-4 second lead and on the last lap he took the lead. I had the fastest lap with a 31:3

The second heat was a lot better. I had an advantage on the grid and overtook the rest of the field before the hairpin. There I stayed until the checkered flag flag.

The final was a 10 minute race and was reverse points order. As me and the other faster driver both had 1 win each it was decided by the first win. I started ahead of him on the second lap luck was to my favour. He collided with a backmarker and got spun into a tire wall. I won that race and the event overall.

After the races I talked with the people who were timing (due to new software). They happened to be timers for the Forest Edge Kart Club. They said there was a program running on Saturday called Lets Go Karting. I spoke to them and said the kart was a ‘Mini Max’ race kart. We phoned up and they had a space so I’m off to Forest Edge for my next karting experience :)

Sorry for the essay

Yes this Saturday

Mini Max? How old are you?
And going from a rental kart to a Rotax is going to be an insanely fun shock.
I can still remember the first time I got a 2-Stroke into the powerband...

Mini Max is for kids that are younger than 12, at 14 you'd be in a Jr.Rotax.
Unless they just put the Mini Max restrictor on a full size kart.
Have fun with the test, I'm am positive you will.

Oh .
What’s the power difference compared to the rental karts to the two strokes? By the sounds of things there’s going to be a big difference

Nope minimax is for 11-17, There are still people aged 14 racing minimax where I live.

FEKC only have a honda cadet, WTP cadet and minimax kart to drive with, beware though they are quite restricted compared to the actual race karts but still a completely different world to rental karts.

My little bro went there last year to do the lets go karting thing he drove the honda and WTP.

I have sorted out where I'm racing for the next couple of months, doing this months blackbushe and then probably next months Whilton Mill, never been there before so lets see how it goes.

Ah, over here I think that you have to move up after 12 or 13.

Fair do's. If you look at my profile pic I'm actually driving minimax, it was taken last year when I was 15. I was only doing minimax because it was the largest meeting of the year and there were huge grids in junior, I wanted to race but not to get involved in the carnage that happens with a huge junior grid at blackbushe, hence why I moved down for that one race. Most people move up earlier though.

i dont think jnr's is that bad is it? i haven't been involved in too many incidents

Really??? In Canada and the US it's for small kids.

i raced minimax till i was 15. i know in europe they have micro max, same speed as cadets (top speed) but they have a bit more grip and power. do you have a restrictor in jnr max? on the outlet on the engine ? minimax here have a smaller exhaust phlange...

It's only a restrictor plate (I think, correct me if it's also the pipe). Still pretty quick though, would be good for introductions.

yea, i think you learn most of your racecraft in cadet though. overtaking is easier and you get a lot of practise and you also learn to work together.

The best way to learn racecraft is to do what our club does, a random start order, then it gets reversed for the second race. And the final positions are calculated using heat points.
Having to pass 15-20 karts in less than 8 laps will teach you racecraft in a hurry.

yea, i don't like the timed practise and the heats after it. i look at my times and i am normally 2/3 tenths off the pace but mostly near the front. i rely on my fighting to do well, if someone overtakes me, do em back before they can get away :P

Oldest kid that races mini max here is probably 11. Anything older than that, it looks like you're just out for an ego boost and to beat on small children.
