As for the G25 I disagree im afraid. There are some cars that slow down quicker by downshifting quickly which obviously means you can brake later. There should be seperate leaderboards because compared to the pad the wheel gives much greater control and more importantly allows you to be smoother. I will hopefully have a wheel by xmas because I cannot stand the PS3 pad after using the far superior 360 controller.

You can go down the gears faster than the car can slow down with a pad too, this is why almost all replays I watch have people overrevving on downshifts, you downshift too fast it will ove revs the same as with any controller. Infact I heel toe on downshifts so the hit of engine compression doesn't happen.

After listening to the interview I wonder if Kaz realises the importance of the online aspects of GT5P when he said "online is only a feature of the game". Now of course this is true but for me personally the online features of any game are the most important. One of the reasons why Xbox live is miles ahead of the PS3 is because Sony didn't realise just how important online is these days.
Why, at the end of the day online is only one feature. I admit private rooms are important but why would he say anything other than online is only one feature when that's all it is, one feature. The Gran Turismo mode will still (and rightly so) be the meat of the pie. I would prefer a sorted single player game first and formost, the online to me would be sorted if it had private rooms. Anything more would be nice but not needed. I would be dissapointed if the offline experience was neglected in favour of online features.

K.Y has many good things in plan for the GT series and his dedication to the perfection of GT is fantastic. As for when official Gran Turismo 5 is released, my opinion is that time is not as important as having GT be done to the level of perfection that PD is chasing. That way when Gran Turismo 5 is released it will be a stunning game of Driving excellence.:D
Much gratitude to K.Y and all the team at P.D.👍

Im not expecting Prologue to fully based on online modes but the fact we cannot have private rooms/voice chat is pretty incredible these days and these options should of been available in SpecII.
My first post and what can I say? 100% agree!!! Sure, I spent hundreds of hours playing GT 4 getting all cars, getting all gold, mastering every mission race, but times have changed and online is at least as important as single player. PD has the opportunity to make the perfect racing experience online and offline in this generation, but if they neglect online, GT 5 will be flawed!

Im not sure if anyone agrees with this but IMO I couldn't careless about new cars to download and one much prefer the private room option aswell as a new track. Im running out of things to do on Prologue because online racing consists of idiots using me as a brake, I love going for laptimes on time trials but as I use a pad im frustrated at those G25 users having the ability to down shift from 6th to 2nd in an instant!

All I desire is private room option and separate leaderboards for pad/wheel users. Another track would be excellent but the private room option is more important at the moment.

you spot on there... SPOT ON.

Most game devs these days spend more time for online play features than there do the rest of the game. Call Of Duty 4 is an example of this. Over time, people get board of the main game but you never get board of online play- it's diffrent every time

Completely agree and using COD4 is such a great example. The days of paying £30-£40 for a game where you complete the single player and trade it in are long gone. I play COD4 alot on my 360 and if it wasn't for the online side of the game I would of traded it in within a couple of weeks and yet here I am still playing it regularly nearly a year after its release.

I wonder if those who disagree with me have never played Forza 2?

Now Forza 2 compared to Prologue is dreadful when it comes to graphics, physics with prologue being miles ahead. However when it comes to online features then Prologue is the one miles behind. Just as an example you had auction house, career/exhibtion/time trial leaderboards, online tournaments, Forza TV where you could watch live races, ranked/private lobbies with loads of options for the host.

I suppose the ideal game would be GT5 Prologue for its graphics, physics etc but with Forza 2 online features. Like I said earlier PD need to realise the importance of online gaming because to be honest private rooms is a very basic online feature that should of been incorparated into Prologue ages ago and the same can be said for online chat!

I sincerely hope this is sorted out in the future because its becoming tiresome having to play UNO on my xbox 360 every time I want to race against my friends. Basically what me and my friends do is set up a room on UNO via our 360s and then switch on our PS3 and tell each other when to press start on the online race. A majority of the time we end up in the same room so not only can we race each other but we can chat to each other. I find it astonishing that we still have to do this!

Im going to be honest.. this really cleared things up for me and i'll admit regretting bitching about release dates and extra content for prologue.
Obviously, they are swamped.. and prologue is there to keep us warm, prologue is all the extra effort from them to us, the fans of PD and the GT series.
They could have chosen not to release anything at all, and where would we be then? whining even more! (including me, i'll admit it again).

I love the fact that GT5 will come as a seperate game! i hate the concept of continually updating prologue and getting new content 3 times a year or so.
Im really glad that come 2010, i can go into the stores and pick up a nice, all new GT5 game with hopefully all the things mentioned before (weather effects, damage, fuel loss, tire wear, day/night cycle, endurance races, better online, car customization, etc).

I think that was a very good interview.. very clear.
Sure, he could have gone into details even more, but we dont know if he actually asked that and maybe it got cut (private rooms).

anyway, Kazunori Yamauchi is the man and i fully understand now what his vision and reasoning is behind GT5 and GT5P.

Can't wait, yet i have to.. but now i understand and will wait with patience.

I cant believe how many people are ok with all the delays, promised content and the all mighty Kazunori "VISION".. It should not be accepted that these guys take this long to do anything with a game thats used to sell the ps3...

I've had my ps3 since release day and all I have are 2 gt5p demos(japanese and us versions)..Isnt it nice that I have already spent close to a 100 bucks for a glorified demo and will have to spend another 50-70 bucks to buy the "actual" game sometime in 2010 or 2011. I love all GT games but the demo has gotten old and the 3 new cars they gave us arent even worth a download....

The Citroen..looks nice but thats about it, Ferrari california, why would I want to drive this ferrari instead of any other ferrari? The FXX would have been a much better choice and the Lotus isnt even a nice car to look at let alone wanting to play it..Just another Exige with a slightly different look.

They need to start adding features that other sims have had for the last 10 years. Ferrari Challenge 1st time out they managed to get a physics engine that feels better than gt's, better sound and they have rain + a better online mode than gt!!! All this on their first try and it didnt even take them that long to do it.I know the game has it's issues but I'll take those issues for all the content.

My sunday rant..

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you about wanting private rooms and more online options, that is the most highly requested feature at the moment.

Indeed it is only a feature, I can't stand games that base themselves fully around online modes.

No cars will slow down quick enough to make that an advantage except the F2007 in which shifts down quick enough by paddles anyway (G25 paddles atleast).

I do it sometimes and it does help a tiny bit, but it is better than no help at all. Moral of the story, You gotta pay to play.

I have never been able to reduce my stopping distances because the G25, I don't know what you guys are talking about.

This is somthing PD must learn & fast. In a game, you don't just make a few things good and leave the rest light years behind. Take pacman for an example- nobody cared in those days that it had bad, 2d grphics and very repetetive, simple game play- you know why? because bad grphics and gameplay the benchmark of gaming then. In GT5p we have good graphics and gameplay(some of the best infact) but very basic onine features. Now think of forza- heres a basic rating: gameplay: '9' graphics '9' online features '8'. The diffrent between those numbers is 1, meaning, everythings just about at the same standard. Now GT5p: gameplay '10' graphics '10' online features '6'. The diffrence between those numbers is 4. If this isen't making sense to you, im compearing each games pros and cons. For example, gt5p has top notch gameplay & graphics, but poor online play. You compear the good to the bad and it makes you think "this game has cool graphics and gameplay, but why have they made no attemp at good online play...WHY!!"

Lol.. that should be a good selling point for the 360 :D

Do you spend much time hotlapping though because it is here you will probably notice the difference as you try and squeeze an extra .100 off your time.

Try this as a test. Using the Nissan GTR on Fuji on standard physics slow down for the first bend by slowly shifting down the gears and then try shifting down as fast as possible. You will notice your brake distances change.

Now of course this doesn't apply to all cars because in some cases shifting down the gears too quickly causes a loss of control.

Another thing I am wondering about the wheel compared to the pad is can you turn the car to the same degree. Watch the replay of the No1 time on HSR using the Citroen GT on standard physics. Now all pad users try and take the same racing line on the first bend at the same speed and see if you can do this without smacking into the rails ending up with a penalty.

Don't get me wrong im not moaning about those who use the wheel because I will own one myself soon, but there should be seperate leaderboards. The difference is minimal in standard physics but some of these cars on professional setting are nearly impossible to control via the pad simply because its hard to make small precise movements with it.

There is always one thing you should all have in mind:

YOU CAN'T SEE IF SOMEONE IS USING THE ACTIVE STEERING OPTION OR NOT.

Thus, all times on all leaderboards and such are non-relevant because the usage of this setting - which can gain serious advantage to it's user - can't bee seen.

Very good point which I forgot to take into account.

I personally take all assists off as I prefer to be in full control.

2010-2011 is a long time. A new system will probably be released in 2011. I would almost rather them release it with a new console and just keep gt5p going. I imagine they know what is in store for the next console, why not just start on a gt to launch with the ps4. How great would it be to have a gt game at the launch of a new console? I would be very disappointed if gt5 releases 6 months before a new console is released. Once I go next gen I never go back and play older games. I guess that gt4 is the one exception to that. I did play gt4 on the ps3 after I got my g25 for about a month. Anyway, how ever long the full gt5 takes, it's gonna be a long, long time.

To my knowledge the PS3 is running at below 50 % capacity and they (sony) have a 10 year plan for it... so I highly doubt that 2011 or 2012 will bring us a new next gen system?....

but my point is the controller (any type) can shift down as quick as needed (quicker than the car can slow down if you wish), all the G25 can do is slipshift which will overrev the engine anyway if you dont wait until the time is right.

I never have active steering set on but how does it give an advantage?

There have been rumors running around these days saying that Sony is planning to release a Cell Based PS4 around 2011 in order to keep challenging the upcoming XBOX while keeping costs down (no extra research and development bazillion dollars needed, just a console update like GC to Wii update).
