Yes, about time that we got a definite timeframe for the next update, as mentioned by Yamauchi about five hours ago in his latest tweet (and as mentioned in this thread on page 113):

Kaz_Yamauchi: さて、久しぶりにGT5のオンライン・アップデートです。24時間後です。オンライン ・スペシャルイベントも開催するよ。
Ok, here comes the long awaited GT5 online update. It will happen in 24 hours. An online special event will be held too.

Sorry guys I'm not being able to follow up to this. Can any of our Japanese friends help us? Do you think maybe tonight we will have a new update? ;)

Indeed that's a possible interpretation :S
Can anyone translate Kaz statement correctly?

It had been done already, by a native speaker, no less. ;)

It's obviously still open to interpretation, regardless of the language used.

@ strtgng

I would want to play Shift 2 someday I probably will, but I am a big fan of Gran Turismo I'm just like many people here want to play the complete package and not a half-a** game.

I hope this patch is more for the offline part than online don't get me wrong I like online, but not as much as the SP experience.

But, do they need to shutdown online services for an hour to do that?

Very logical/rational. 👍

I'm not a programmer at Sony, but I'll go ahead and say yes, yes they do.

We won't know squat till the update comes out, or my spy inside PD gets back to me, whichever comes first.

Leaderboards + Online Racing Events a la Prologue. Anything less is just a waste of time, I would also like to see the toning down of the draft effect in online races but...something about Rome, built, wasn't etc..

I'm happy to see this mentioned more and more, everywhere I look. 👍 Hopefully PD will eventually take notice and either tone it down to realistic levels or provide a slider, similar to how we have "low/real" levels of grip on the track. I'm a bit dismayed that it's so far down the list in the feedback section. For those of us who compete in organized leagues, it does much to detract from the experience. A driver who manages to negotiate a series of corners better than the car behind him, giving him a 1~2 second lead going down a long straight, will have that advantage completely negated long before the braking zone.

I am. Try a race in the PDI Kart and tell me it's accurate.

Thats just a flaw with the karts. It should have been changed but hey what can you do.

Also, Kaz mentioned kart racing wasn't supposed to be in GT5 because of the timeframe. They added it in because people found out about it, so he said why not. Meaning they didn't implement it the right way.

It's NOT just a flaw with the karts. Every car in the game has exaggerated slip stream effect, which increases exponentially as it approaches it's own top speed. But it's more noticeable in karts because they only go about 80 mph. A bone stock road car with about 325pp will suddenly gain about 15+ mph in a draft, as if it was hit in the tail with a giant sledge hammer. The slipstream effect in GT5 is akin to turning on boost. It's designed to make the game more interesting. Which I suppose it can be under certain circumstances. But it isn't realistic.

Hi Everyone,
I am new here in this forum and it is my first post, so...

What I wish most for this update is a better collision request for online playing cause collisions never feel real simulated in this game and I mean collisions that are very soft and no super crashes :sly:
Please no more "Blonk"-noises when collide with other drivers :nervous:

I'm not sure the draft effect is over-done... At 150-200MPH, a draft does a HUGE amount even in real life.

Agreed, although I think the concern with GT5 is the length of the draft. Even at 150-200 mph, I shouldn't make up a lot of distance when I'm 1.5 seconds behind. At that distance (assuming a high powered car like a Ferrari, etc) I shouldn't even feel the draft.

For some reason, I do.

It is pretty true. There should be an explanation given to us if the leaderboards don't come.

As I mentioned in another thread, wait for June 1st to get upset about leaderboards, as Prologue servers go offline the day before, and I'm pretty sure that if we do end up getting leaderboards, they'll be using those servers to do it.

On a 1000ft straight karts can make up 4-8 kart lengths in the draft. I've been on both ends of the draft before.

i used to race karts and to my memory the draft did very little... it helped you get a jump to get by someone and carry some momentum, but its just too much in this game.

Sure, but it depends on the distance between the 2 karts at the beginning of the straight. If there's too much distance, the air should have plenty of time to settle before the next car slices through it.

I'm a terrible judge of distance simply by glancing at it, but 1000ft. draft seems a bit much, especially since Karts don't have giant wings to disturb lots of air.

I'm wondering also if this is more attributable to a rubberbanding effect similar to Prologue, rather than the draft. I'd have to do some testing to verify, and quite frankly have better things to test, but it's just an idea if someone else wants to do the work.

I just tweed Kaz ( in japanese ) if he will be adding more events such as rally events or maybe to even add more races to existing events such as Expert or Extreme.
