I'll bring it in here so everyone can ooh and aah.

I bought a new car. It's a 1991 Mazda RX7 GXL, which means it's the S5 version, non-turbo. The car has 90,000 miles, and this second engine has about 15,000, besides what it had used. That tells me the lady who owned it didn't take very good care of it, changing oil religiously and often. I guess I'll find out.

The car itself is in decent condition. It's got a few typical problems, like some peeling paint on the roof which apparently is common on quite a few cars from that era, and the driver's automatic shoulder belt doesn't work. That's about it for the obvious problems. My biggest gripe with the car is that there's no cargo cover, which means everything I put in the trunk can be seen through the glass hatch. I'll have to try and find one.

I drove it around the block and it runs well. Everything felt like it was in one piece. But still, the car is soooo 90s it's not even funny. It's an awful looking thing, but it's so badass at the same time.

Next Monday is when I'm supposed to pick it up. I've been stressing about time constraints that day though, hoping that my insurance check clears on Saturday or earlier so I don't have to mess around at the bank here, and can already be in Florence at 9am to do the title stuff. If the lady doesn't let me take her plates then I'll have to get temporary plates down there, too. Either way, she has to be at work at 1pm and I do at 3, so I've only got a few hours to work with.

Thursday and Friday I'll be going with my dad and cousin to Jersey again to pick up my car. Everyone tells me I wasted money and made a hassle buying the thing back, but damn it, it's my car and I want it back. I feel like I made a mistake with the Del Sol leaving it in the scrap yard, especially after I found out some douchebag ricer got a hold of it and took all my parts. He didn't even know what kind of car it was. So this time it's mine, and imma do what imma do with it, which is take it apart and sell stuff.

That's the plan. If you knew me, you'd know my plans don't often work out the way I'd figured.

Yeah that brick flew right over your head.

I got in an accident on the way back from John's house. I didn't get very far, so my car is still in Jersey.

But we're past that. Joey, the RX7. THE RX7 JOEY PAY ATTENTION.

Ok, so you're buying an RX-7, but you also bought back your wrecked Civic? Bought it back from...? And is the rex your first RWD car?

You seem to have left out a lot of crucial details here, lol.

What I know for certain:
1. You owned a Del Sol.
2. You wrecked it.
3. You then owned a Civic.
4. You wrecked it.
5. You're now buying an RX-7.

Wait, what? Explain?

Plans? Turbo?

I give it a year and a half to blow up. It is an RX-7 after all...

I must have missed something, I figured you just wanted a new car.

Oh right RX-....hey look a bird!

Ouch. Sorry to hear about your car...

So you gonna let us in on what happened? Or is your attorney advising you to keep quiet? ;)

I'm glad I am not the only one who missed something. And why do I smell something fishy about the whole nonchalantness of this lol.

I noticed that too... Maybe he's ashamed of it? *coughdui?cough*
You guys are smarter than the average bear.

The official record is that a tire blew out. Whether it be a pothole or some Jersey highway shrapnel (quite likely, as I added to the pile considerably), the car miraculously spun out NASCAR-style and the concrete barrier ripped everything in front of the engine clean off. Luckily everything rearward of that is still good, and worth money. That's why I bought it back.

..."I've driven this thing in all sorts of conditions, fast, slow, streets, tracks, and cars just don't spin out for no reason. I don't know wtf happened, but hey look at that huge gash in my tire..."

I assume that's what the officer wrote down, so that's what you all get from me.

I do have more pics from the rest of the trip, and the aftermath and whatnot. I have to get up at 5am to go back to Jersey and get my car, so you'll have to wait a little bit. I'm also scheduled to pick up the RX on Monday, but that schedule is tight too. I shouldn't have agreed to pay for it the same day my insurance check is supposed to clear...:nervous:

Speaking of RX7, it's funny because I was bound and determined to get a Miata. I was looking for the perfect one, and looking hard. So stressed. I just started searching random daily postings looking for funny stuff and I saw "1991 Mazda RX7 $2900", and I went uhwhaaaaaa...? I looked at all my buddies and got a resounding AWESOME, and so Sunday Josh and I went down to look at it. And I bought it. I asked him as we left "Josh, why did you let me do that? What a terrible idea!"

Dont lie, Keef. John crashed your car into a train crossing.

Hahaha, where in Jersey? I live there and go to school here so if you bored let me know.
I had gotten about 30 feet down I80, leaving Bergin County, which just happens to be named after John's family. That's how awesome he is.

Am I the only one then who just assumed Keef crashed as soon as I saw that he was looking at new cars?
The Cavalier (we don't talk about it much) lasted 6 months. The Del Sol, a year and a half. The Civic made it two, and if this trend continues you'll know why I'm shopping for new ones again in about 3.

I should have used that excuse. It's actually hard to not get hit by a train there because they're everywhere. And they carry...people. Who'd have thought they still used trains for that?

Don't be ridiculous.

You'll blow up the engine long before you crash it :P

So the RX-7 is indeed your first RWD car, eh?
Yup. Should have some fun.

Yo keef, how long you in Jersey for?
I'm already back, lol. My dad, cousin, and I left Thursday morning at 6:30 with a truck and trailer, arrived in Jersey at 5:30pm, ate, slept, left the hotel at 7:30am, got the car loaded up at 8:30, were on our way out of town just after 9, and we managed to make it home by 10:00pm. Now it's sitting in my garage taking a nap. I think it's eager to meet its new friend on Monday, hopefully.

I drove it off the trailer and into my garage. Not done, but cooked enough to eat. And the engine still sounds awesome. But yeah, it's time to put it to rest peacefully. As a matter of fact I almost wish the engine was in pieces, because then I wouldn't want to keep the thing. It still drives man. It still goes. It just doesn't have headlights or a cooling system anymore, and the chassis in front of the engine is pretty gnarled. But I gotta get rid of it.

This thread is worthless without pics!!

Although, I must confess I'm more interested in seeing the RX-7. Part of me wants to ditch the Interceptor for another FC.
