As you already know Android is a open sourse OS. This means that anybody could make an app for Android. This means that you could download an app that contains spywear or any bad program. So i have found a few links that will help you keep safe while using your phone or tablet.

Some good information there, thanks!

I'd like to point out, though, that open source is not less secure, in fact it's pretty much the other way around. Linux and BSD, both open source operating systems, are far more secure than proprietary OSes like Windows for example.

Norton has made anti-virus apps for android.

That's mentioned in one of the links that GT4me provided.

Additionally, based on my experiences with Norton on my windoze desktop, I will never, ever buy a product from Symantec/Norton again, nor buy a machine that comes with anything from Symantec preinstalled.

Well, the last part is pretty easy to fix, and there's no reason to rule out a nice machine because it came with something easily removed . . . .

But yeah, Symantec's security products . . . . :yuck:

Well I only download well established apps for the most part and I now use ad blocker which means web browsing isn't really all that dangerous. Never had a problem in more than a year with heavy use on my phone.

If you were comparing IOS to Android you would be safer on IOS because Apple doesn't allow faulty apps.

True but anti virus isn't all that effective against viruses yet. Most viruses you'll encounter won't come from apps unless your downloading brand new apps with no downloads.

Anti virus can't be very effective yet because there just isn't enough research on android viruses, worms, spyware... They can't defend against things they've never seen.

Yes that is true but having anti-virus is better than having nothing to protect you.
