Kenny's Muscle Car Competition Week 1

Big fan of the modern muscle myself.. going against the grain a little.

kenny-- i have an LCD monitor, I'm not seeing any streaking, if you have a CRT monitor, that could be the cause if its going out? i see some wierd "box" around the edges on the thumbnails, but otherwise, no.. full res. .. i may take some more pics, cause those are old & i'm feeling like playin with the Special.. :sly:

My monitor is fine.

Just letting you know b/c there's no way you're gonna win with that in there, so if I were you I would edit it out :)

For future reference, could you define 'muscle'. A 90 year old lady could call a Fiat Panda muscle.

Anyhoo, here is one of my entries

mus·cle ( P ) Pronunciation Key (msl)
n.
A tissue composed of fibers capable of contracting to effect bodily movement.
A contractile organ consisting of a special bundle of muscle tissue, which moves a particular bone, part, or substance of the body: the heart muscle; the muscles of the arm.
Muscular strength: enough muscle to be a high jumper.
Informal. Power or authority: put some muscle into law enforcement.

lol just j/k. I didn't think I would have to define muscle car, but lets just say any american car with power, a big engine and is adorned with some kind of aesthetic 'look at me' bodywork is instantly in....although all of that isn't necessary. All Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros, the Buick Special, Cobras, the GTOs, blah blah blah are eligible. If there is any doubt as to whether you think your car is eligible, post it anyway (along with others you know will fit the description). I may consider some european or japanese cars...like the old Japanese cars that are obviously mimicking the american cars (even though they aren't fast)

By the way, great shot of the Camaro! 👍

i dont even see wut yer pointing out.. maybe my monitor just doen't pick it up? i'll look at it..

That's really odd! I'll keep that into consideration then when I sort through your photos :)

Ok. Thankyou.

No clue what effect you are shooting for on the 1st picture haha, but I really like the last three 👍

Is there any way you can post a thumbnail of those three using a full res version?

FINAL....entries :P

The Superbird pics are FANTASTIC!! You have a good chance.
I also like how the Charger looks like it's been lowered haha

I think this comp is starting to take off now...kinda like a Hemi on a dragstrip :sly:

I had these photos lying around, i played with the charger a little so i thought i might enter just for the fun of it. My favourite is the third pic!

What the general public has accepted as Muscle cars =

MOPARS (Chrysler Products):

1967-1973 Plymouth Barracuda
1964-1975 Plymouth Belvedere/Satelite GTX
1968-1975 Plymouth Roadrunner
1971 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird
1969-1974 Plymouth Duster 340
1970-1973 Dodge Challenger
1966-1973 Dodge Charger
1968-1973 Dodge Charger Super Bee
1966-1969 Dodge Coronet
1970 Dodge Charger Daytona
1969-1973 Dodge Dart 340

The 1964-1966 Barracuda Formula S Might also be considered by some but with only a 273 cubic inch engine and a mere 235 hp it lacked a little bit until Plymouth put some serious muscle into it in 1967.

GM:

1958-1970 Chevrolet Impala SS
1964-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle (most all V-8 variations)
1967-2001 Chevrolet Camaro (all variations)
1966-1972 Chevrolet Nova SS
1969 Buick GSX
198? Buick Grand National
1964-1970 Pontiac GTO
1967-2001 Pontiac Firebird
1966-1972 Oldsmobile 442 & Hurst 442
1969-1970 Oldsmobile W-30

Sorry gang but the Corvette in any factory variation is considered a sports car.

FoMoCo (Ford Products) :

1966-2005 Ford Mustang (all variations including the Cobras and Shelbys except any of the Mustang II's)
1963-1971 Ford Galaxie/Fairlane 500
1968-1972 Ford Torino (including the 500)
1970 Ford Torino Talledaga
1966-1972 Mercury Montego Cyclone
1970-1971 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler
1967-1972 Mercury Cougar XR/7

The Thunderbird started life called a "sports car" and quickly became a luxury sports car (whatever that means)

There are many factory variations of each of these cars and I've probably left out a few but, for the most part, these are the ones that are generally refered to as muscle cars within the mass public. Just because it was made between a certain range of time and it has a big, powerful engine doesn't make it a muscle car. I mean would you consider a 1969 Cadillac Eldorado with a BIG 500 cubic inch engine and almost 400 hp a muscle car? Nope that's a luxury car that goes fast. :)

And I won't even get into all the factory experimantals that were a one or two off built for car shows and/or racing research. But don't flame me if I've left out one or two.

These cars were also known as pony cars and were raced under SCCA sanctioning named as such. These were the original Trans-Am cars of the late 60's and early 70's :

Plymouth Barracudas
Dodge Challengers
Chevrolet Camaros
Ford Mustangs

That's all for now boys and girls. Until next time remember, don't put your ear to the ground....you may get your head stepped on.

Here we go

Scaff, I really like #2! I love seeing vintage looking pictures like that. In fact, that is going to be next week's theme.

#5 is also very good, although the rear lights aren't the greatest...if you can clean that up it will be a fantastic picture!

I like your #3 best as well.
The addition of the huge engine in pic #1 is a cool idea; however, it does not flow with the rest of the pic. Your Charger appears to be doing a burnout so the belt wouldn't be stationary - also the engine would be shaking like mad.

Swissbear
The only TRUE muscle cars ever built 1964-1973 MOPAR.

Great entries! The white Charger (good taste by the way) and the jumping Cuda are excellent contenders :)

The 'general public' may not agree with me that a Corvette is a muscle car, but it sure as hell competed on the same dragstrips as all the other cars you mentioned. Slap the 427 big block in and you have a formidable muscle car. I don't know whether your post is by personal observation or from some sort of reference, but I, and most people would consider most Corvettes as a muscle car. Granted, the earliest ones were much BETTER classed as sports cars but as years went on those lines blurred. :)

I'm still clueless as to what you mean by "That's all for now boys and girls. Until next time remember, don't put your ear to the ground....you may get your head stepped on."
