The Thunderbird started life called a "sports car" and quickly became a luxury sports car (whatever that means)
There are many factory variations of each of these cars and I've probably left out a few but, for the most part, these are the ones that are generally refered to as muscle cars within the mass public. Just because it was made between a certain range of time and it has a big, powerful engine doesn't make it a muscle car. I mean would you consider a 1969 Cadillac Eldorado with a BIG 500 cubic inch engine and almost 400 hp a muscle car? Nope that's a luxury car that goes fast.
And I won't even get into all the factory experimantals that were a one or two off built for car shows and/or racing research. But don't flame me if I've left out one or two.
These cars were also known as pony cars and were raced under SCCA sanctioning named as such. These were the original Trans-Am cars of the late 60's and early 70's :
Plymouth Barracudas
Dodge Challengers
Chevrolet Camaros
Ford Mustangs
That's all for now boys and girls. Until next time remember, don't put your ear to the ground....you may get your head stepped on.
