Its also to a degree range dependent (again from the beta as well), the closer you are the more likely it is to be a one shot kill from a headshot.
So, I played it again last night and tested this. Definitely range dependant.

I also learned that I am best with the M82 Assault Rifle. I tried not immediately switching back from the missile launcher and died quickly. I tried picking up Helghan weapons and died more often. I think it is the difference in zoomed sights for the machine guns. The M82 uses the viewer, which does not block half the screen when aiming. It also has less recoil.

Perhaps I should play the full game before I immediately sign off on my favorite weapon.

Yes, you probably should, but I also found the M82 better because you could see more of what's going on. The rocket launcher was fun and a nice cloud of smoke too!

I didn't realise that the build was out of date (a little old anyway), all I can say again, is how impressed I am with this game. I've played the demo several times now and love it!

Just played through the demo twice, and I'm very impressed. It's every bit as good as I was hoping, I loved the original game and this one looks as though it will be even better. It took a while to get used to the controls and the weight of the player compared to other games but once I got the hang of that it was spot on.

It's the little details like the things your team-mates say during battle or when they need your help that make a big difference. Earlier on I was helping my team mate up a ledge and he said "and don't drop me like last time!"

How do you guys know the demo is from an old build, and how old? Did I miss some small print at the start / end of it?

Played it again on my Sharp Aquos LCD- apparently you can upscaled the game to 1080p which my screen is capable of but compared to 720p, there's hardly any difference. Couple of screenshots using my Panasonic Lumix digicam which has a 16:9 ratio mode. The lighting in the game is beyond anything I've ever seen before in a video game. While game like Fallout, has bad anti-aliasing especially the PS3 version, in KZ2, you won't see any bad jaggies (it's still there but not glaringly so):

I know this by listening to 1up podcast, the journalist there told everyone that the demo was from E3 , and that the final game is much better and smoother , and they also say its no framerate iussues at all.

Thanks. I've seen the video and showed it a few times to those who's been complaining about the game's control- just to prove that's playable. I don't think there's another hidden level- you're only suppose to get two levels.
And Glac, since you're Eutechnyx's vehicle artist and I'm a beta tester for SCC, all I have say is that I'm looking forward to SCC. I hope you get inspired by what GG has done with Killzone 2. GL.

For me the controls where weird at start, felt heavy etc, but then i noticed i could change the settings so i always use " Alternate2 " now , as its much easier to AIM with L1 and shot with R1 , so for me since they have added all theese controls they have done an exellent job.

Im glac you are looking forwards to SCC , Is gonna be alot better then FC i can tell you that , and you have beta so you know how it looks, and its been changed alot ;)

We are inspired by everyone , its just a shame that our Ride to hell game is always gonna be in the shadow of GTAs new DLC , when we started it a long time before they did =(

There's unlockables?

Must search Google.

There is ;) look at youtuve search for " killzone 2 glithes, " then you find out there is 3 " items " you can collect, one is just at the end, you see it in the distance DONT LOOK LEFT" as it will end the demo , just look straight out the door and in the background you will see a badge " shot it " and you get the first one ;)

i played the demo a few times...and i do really enjoy the game. But it seems from the reviews that i may be the only one not impressed by the graphics? Also as mentioned the controls do feel heavy, just takes some getting used to. I will play it a few more times tonight with the different controller schemes (haven't done that yet). I am looking forward to the release i have it reserved. Should be fun. But i just don't find the graphics that "stunning".

But for me i always hold graphics standards up to Gears of War and Gears of War 2. To this day those are the best console graphics i have personally seen. And MGS4 comes in a very close 2nd. I play on a Samsung 32" 1080p t.v. if it makes a difference. The lighting i will say is Excellent. To me the game looks kind of arcadey. It reminds me of Resistance 2 style graphics. I definately look forward to playing through the story and getting into the multi-player. once again my PSN is "driftkng" feel free to add me and send me an invite once the game is out! :)👍

Since I also have Resistance 2, I can attest that Killzone 2 is the better looking of the two. There are some parts in R2 where the graphics is quite amazing but for the most part of the game, you get a decent but not outstanding art direction. Of the three- KZ2, R2 and Gears 1+2, I would have to say Gears is the more arcade looking- not in bad way but from the character modeling (out of porportion body) and also the way textures are used. KZ2 perhaps too understated to be an attention grabber but if you pay attention to small little details you see how much better the graphics is compared to most current shooter. Here's some actual screenshot of R2, Gears 2 and KZ2 (from the demo)- not off my camera but screen capture.

As a self-professed graphic-whore, I love these three games purely for eye candy but while there's absolutely nothing wrong with R2 and Gears 2, I have to say that Killzone 2 is at the top of my list followed closely by GT5 Prologue especially when it comes to games that achieve a good degree of realism.

Gears are both great looking games, but I personally think that KZ2 is better looking and manages that with far more going on at any given time.

I think the two screen-shots above help to illustrate what I am referring to, the sheer scale of 'stuff' on-screen in KZ2 (much of which can be destroyed) is far greater than GoW, the texture range is much greater and far more varied, the lighting is in a totally different class. Keep in mind that KZ2 keeps that up on-line as well (and with 32 players), for me its a step up from GoW.

Comparing either GoW or KZ2 to R2 is totally incorrect in my opinion, R2 is an awful looking game, with some of the worst character animations I've seen this gen.

Are you a PC gamer? I imagine that for some that have never played modern PC games, the graphics would be 'the best ever'. That said, it still looks good. If the demo is indeed an old build, they might be improved in the full release.

What strikes me about Killzone 2 is that it looks like it's trying very, very hard to have the same visual style of war films. There is a slight grain to the picture like a film often has and the subtle use of colour and atmospheric lighting is far more reminiscent of movies than video games.
I don't have a problem with that. However because of this it doesn't leap out at you like other games. It's subtle and all the better for it.
I will say that Resistance 2 disappointed me. Not in its art or design but in its lack of sharpness. It all seemed a bit blurry to me.
Anyway, the Killzone 2 demo can be played at 1080p upscaled? Hmm, how do I do that?

Killzone 2 looks far better than Gears fo War in every single category.

Omnis - No, KZ2 does not use the Crysis engine, it is a custom engine.

it's all a matter of opinion so noone is wrong. R2 was just bleh as far as graphics/gameplay etc. Just got really old, really fast. Gow Blew R2 out of the water, and still beats KZ2 in my eyes.

I did play through it a bit more last night and changed the controller scheme and set the sensitivity ALL the way up. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the release. But in my eyes Gow2 is still leaps ahead as far as looks/clarity and definition of scenery. Now as far as destructible enviornments and lots of things going on, i will give that to KZ2 and the large multi-player if still looking as good is a bouns.

Feel free to add my PSN "driftkng" so we can get some sessions once the game is out!

I also have a Samsung 32" LCD although it's only a 720p unit (My Sharpp Aquos is 1080p). My advice is to make sure to turn off an noise reduction filter on the TV, if you haven't already.

Thanks for the suggestion, when i get home after work i will give it a try. I do believe it is Off already, but i will double check. :)👍

[edit]-after work i checked and turned off the Noise Reduction filter, but it didn't help much. but it made me go through the rest of my settings and the HDMI output was set to ONLY 1080p on the ps3 display settings. So i checked all of the HD formats (since t.v. supports all of them). WOW noticeable difference. Looks like a different game. I was finally able to enjoy the lighting effects everyone was raving about. I could appreciate the dust clouds and particles and the rays of light shinning through opening in buildings etc. Only other question i have is the final game going to be 720p or 1080p?

Your eyes are broken.

Gears looks great, but not better than Killzone 2. Any thought otherwise is just disbelief, and that is the plain and simple. KZ2 has more lighting, more shadows, better animation (especially facial animation) equal texture work, and WAY better sound. Frankly, there is only one thing that Gears does better than Killzone, and that is the ridiculously stupid "gore". Nothing else.

Also, R2 was fantastic for gameplay, especially the multiplayer (co-op especially).

I see your point although i don't agree besides the lighting and sound which you are correct. Once again it's a matter of opinion. Like red is better than green, personal preference. The graphics improved DRAMATICALLY once i had my ps3 set-up properly playing the KZ2 demo, but in my eyes "broken or not" i still think gears is a more beautifull game. But i will make a better decision when it's released and i pick up my reserved copy. It's hard to explain, Gears has kind of a "wet" look where things shine and glare and to me it makes colors and little details more noticeable. The comparison i was making was by graphics/looks alone, game play mechanics and playability are a whole other ball game. I myself couldn't get into resistance 2. I played through the campaign and it was fun, not great. The multi-player i tried 2 or 3 times and it was very HALO like to me. I am not a HALO fan. The co-op multi-player was more enjoyable but also lost it's appeal quickly.

after changing the ps3 settings the game looked much better and my aiming accuracy was greatly increased which was funny. It will be a fun game for sure and i look forward to playing with u guys when it's out. :)👍

I noticed the grain too. At first I thought there was a problem with my monitor, at least I know now there is not! 👍

PMSL ... Ooops! Am I allowed to say that? Spank me if I'm not! :nervous:

I can't believe that people here are even trying to compare R2 to KZ2, its a ridiculous comparison at best. My enduring memory from Resistance:Fall of Man is the Chimera running around like they've got rickets! Very poor animation, and judging by what Scaff has said, it doesn't look like it has got any better. :dunce:

On a technical level, Killzone 2 is visually a better game than Gears of War 1 and 2.

You may appreciate the art style of one over the other, that much is subjective, but which game is technically better looking is not.

It's also quite obvious you're not a Halo fan, because R2 plays absolutely nothing like Halo.

You may appreciate the art style of one over the other, that much is subjective, but which game is technically better looking is not.
It may be technically superior, if people don't like what they see, it's not better for them. 'Better looking' is always a subjective statement. Technically superior/inferior is not.

That said, I think KZ2 looks amazing, best I've seen on a console so far. Like GT5P did with its car models, this game raises the bar for FPS games to come on the consoles.

I downloaded the BIA2 demo, which is not looking that bad, but after playing the KZ2 demo it looked like a game from the nineties.

By "plays like halo" I think he means, "takes several shots to kill someone" haha. Not the same thing.

I meant more of the feel to it. I only played it twice so i'll be honest i didn't give the competitive multi-player a fair chance. It was a few small close quarters maps. The feel off it running around in a crazed frenzy everyone bunched up grenades, missiles and all deathmatch. I guess you could call it the flow of the game? :idea:The co-op was fun if your team-mates actually worked with you.

I do hope KZ2 has some interesting game modes. Team deathmatch can be fun for a bit, but having an objective spices things up a bit.

Yea...you haven't played much of Halo or Resistance 2.

How can you not think it's ridiculous to play a game TWICE and then directly compare it to something else?

"Hey, I watched the first 10 minutes of Varsity Blues, it was basically like Remember the Titans"

It's just a foolish statement to make if you haven't really experienced either game to a great extent.
