Kony 2012

Seriously tho why is this problem the US'? It sounds more like a civil war problem that Africa should handle by itself. It's one guy in the jungle with not really that many people against all of Africa. I'm sure Africa could send troops from all over to find an kill him but they don't. Now the US has to go over and start trouble on an issue that shouldn't even concern them.

Its really not that simple.
There is politics+corrupt government+problems much more important then this in Africa. Also, no one really has a whole lot of money to just "go after him."

It's funny how the same people who deride others for sharing the Kony video or information about it are same ones who endlessly gush about how awesome Chuck Norris is.

Almost as funny as how the same people that don't believe in America policing the world pray for us to do something about Kony.

This thread has swayed from serious hipstervism to complete satire. This pleases me.

Hahaha makes no sense and yet I totally understand what you mean

The part "I also heard he likes eating the still beating hearts of toddlers" switched me off to make feel vomit.

Anyone heard any more on the rumors that Kony has been dead for a couple of years?

I know vincent otti his second in command is dead, kony executed him. Kony thought the dude was colluding with foreign governments for money. With that being said a good friend of mine goes to uganda about once a year (nurses without borders). He says those people are terryified of kony and the government has basically given up trying to find him. Personally i think they know where he is. For real you can keep tabs on endangered gorillas, but they dont know where kony is with his massive child army?? And i would not donate to this hipsters charity that he set up,33% of the money goes to this charity. Where does the rest go?

The Ugandan government (which is somewhat corrupt itself) travel costs, etc. etc.

My sister thinks that Kony is dead. She thinks that this woman from Uganda said he's been dead for 10 years. I'm not believing nor denying this.

And I am not supporting nor ignoring this "campaign".

Do some research on it. If somebody tells you something they claim is true, you are correct not to blindly believe it (which is what you have done). but what you should do is go and check for yourself. Google Joseph Kony or invisible children. Find actual facts about Kony and the situation. Then make an informed decision on weather to support the movement or not based on your beliefs. This is the general problem of our generation. They believe the first thing they hear.

Here is the video your sister was probably talking about.

This video should get you started. Now just because she said this on the internet doesn't mean its true. Do some research and choose be informed, unlike the rest of our mindless generation who could care less.

The thread did not bring a lot of new light on this for me (searched the net first).

I agree with most of the critics on IC. Would add that the references (what documents are shown) in their video are very vague.

On the other hand IMHO:
* the goal is noble, for once an initiative that defends real natural rights
* the video illustrates clearly "force" or "imposed commitments", that these children encounter
* the initiative shows that you (IC) get authority by defending the rights of others, you can move people
* it calls to bring someone to justice
=> I see no issue in watching it, but place it in context, it is greatly made promotional material to solve an emotional motivated goal, IC has credit for bringing the issue up, they might not have the full solution ready though.

My opinion on Kony 2012 is that indeed this man should be apprehended for the things that he has done. What Joseph Kony did/is doing is very sickening and extremely wrong.

As for the charity group Invisible Children I believe that they do have good intentions and try to collect as much money as they can for these Central African Countries. Although as with any business you need to cover all your costs first to continue to provide money to these countries. I'm not sure how much of the the money that Invisible Children earn goes to the Central African Countries but I do believe it is around 30-40% which all in all isn't terrible considering all the costs needed to keep Invisible Children up and running and raising awareness of this issue. (Although they wouldn't need to do this as much as before due to the popularity of the Kony 2012 campaign.)

I do think calling Invisible Children a scam is a bit extreme though as they are (supposedly) non-profit and some of the money they receive does actually go to these countries.

The things i've said about Invisible Children may be wrong as I did not do extensive research on the issue.

Was anyone else in the UK watching 10 O'Clock Live just now? Charlie Brooker's rant about Kony 2012 was brilliant! I've got it recorded and I'll try and get a clip online at some point.

I've not gone too in depth, but I do think IC Need to change their strategy a bit. The concept of lobbying and playing the "political game" I think is a bold (and apparently effective) move. But, too much money goes on the wrong stuff, and a closer look into their finances reveals that of the $13,000,000 that comes into IC, only about $9,000,000 goes out again and I can't see where the extra is going (and many large outgoings are only loosely defined). Perhaps I've missed something...? Anyway, I would rather like to know where exactly that extra $4,000,000 or so is disappearing to...

My guess is it's actually going to Invisible Children...as in children that actually don't exist.

You think Africa is a country that has troops?

If you really wanted to know you could just take a look at their financial statements. They are available on their website.

Have any of you guys seen the video "Kony 2012 Video is misleading" by this girl slubogo on Youtube? She makes many excellent points, all of which I agree with. Take 5 minutes and watch it if you haven't already.
