Kubica injured in rally crash - Now rallying again...

F1 rejects once described Heidfeld as someone who takes all the opportunities given to him, but never makes any for himself. I'm inclined to agree with that when it comes to Heidfeld, but I wouldn't necessarily think it fits Rosberg. Time will tell, but Nico seems to be stuck in a difficult position.

Rosberg is heading that way though, consistent invisible drives, that pay dividends in championship positions but don't do much for his career. Its not really anything him and Heidfeld do particularly wrong, its just they constantly seem to be in cars or on strategies that keep them away from all other cars on the track so they rarely see action and don't get shown on TV very much.
Its funny Boullier comes out with the comments earlier this year, but Heidfeld is as good as he ever was. He's once again consistently scoring points which is what he was hired for. Yes, he's not as exciting as Kubice but I think perhaps Renault are over-estimating their current car a little.

I agree with you about the car. Heidfeld has done a good job, but is not much further ahead of Petrov. Given the amount of money Petrov brings to the team and the amount of potential they believe the car had, I'm not surprised they're a little disappointed.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would have put Nico Hulkenberg in the car. He would have been perfect. Given an equal car, would probably outperform Petrov and he's a young talent. Heidfeld does a good job, but I think F1 would have benefited from someone like Hulkenberg in that car. Now he lies on the sidelines and has potentially wasted a year. I am going to open a 2012 driver transfer discussion thread as I feel there is much to talk about and it is spilling over to other threads.

Lets be fair here, Petrov is much improved this year though he has had to deal with a lot less pressure generally than last year. I think its really difficult for Renault to replace either driver, though I don't see them keeping Heidfeld on beyond this year, they will want to stick either a supremely talented driver if possible in the seat and if not I can see them trying Grosjean or maybe promoting a proven driver like Glock or Sutil.

I am a fan of Petrov, but I think Hulkenberg may have been more interesting. He is young and he is talented. It would have been interesting seeing the new, improved Petrov go up against Nico in equal machinery.

Hulk is committed to Force India now and hasn't really proven himself yet. I don't see why Renault would go for him over Senna or Grosjean - he doesn't bring anything they don't.

Statistically, he has been far better. It's not really a fair comparison as they have all been in vastly different machinery. I would just say "his resume is better".

I'm kinda hoping Nick leaves F1, to drive for BMW in DTM, his f1 career isn't likely to get much better, and I'd like to see him back with BMW.. I hugely respect him as a driver.

There's a strong rumour floating around about that ;).

I suppose the Scary thing for Nico Rosberg is that i do not remember ever seeing him when i watched any of the races......Rosberg has become invisible....thats troubling.

I.... I lost for my word. I don't think in any way we'll see this man on the grid this year following this incident. But seriously, what's going on here?!?

Jeez, cursed or what! I think he shouldnt leave the house until the day of an F1 race!

And even then he should be airlifted, or hoisted in a danger-proof bubble of some sort.

We're still pulling for you Kuby!

Pretty much game over for Kubica at this point.

Yet another long period of not being in a car, not being able to keep himself fit. There's no chance we're ever going to see the old Kubica back with a shot at the title.

What are the odds that he can get back at all this year?

None.

There is no way he will be able to get fit enough, let alone have any pace at all to challenge any driver for any seat.

We'll have to wait for 2013 I guess, but I'm not expecting much from him anymore, as much as I wanted him to bring home a title.

Kubica's turning into a right sicknote. He needs to stop hanging around with Darren Anderton!

[/British sport humour]

If he sits out 2012 as well, he will have missed 2 seasons with little or no motorsport practice during that time. Once tipped as the next Ferrari #2, it's looking less and less likely. Especially with Perez on the rise.

So if he comes back, eventually, and it's not Renault. Where could he get a drive? I'm thinking Sauber or Williams.

Do you think they'll sign him though?

I feel that Perez is the more likely candidate.

Perez -> Ferrari
Kubica -> Sauber
Massa -> Out in the cold.

Perhaps. We'll see.

If Kubica makes enough of a recovery to drive sometime in 2012, he might get a testing role at Ferrari. If his pace in Friday practice is still quick then Ferrari will probably sign him to replace Massa. If it's not quick, they'll probably take Perez.
