Just did it again trying the Citroen Gr. 4...... somehow ALL the other cars were 1 lap behind at the finish. The weather was odd.... rain just after the start of lap 3 (when I'd changed to RH again)..... caught a lot of cars out.
I love this race. 🥰

Won it in the pikes peak Audi Quattro using 1 pitstop to put on intermediates.

Using fuel saving you can do it relatively comfortably on 1 stop fuel wise.

It will go down to 700pp with about 450bhp and mostly decent settings with low downforce.

This morning I did the Le Mans WTC700 race and it was set as a timed 30 min race and not 8 laps although it said it was an 8 lap race when I selected it.

Was this a change or a weird glitch?

Edited to change it to 700 not 600
Do this as a daily grind use the gt4 Porsche hard first stint RH then W then IM easy money

Still perfecting but 3-4 laps with RH and fuel saving 4. Then either IM or RH and refuel to 3/4 and then you can run to the end in fuel saving 3 or 4...

Audi Pikes Peak Rally car... I will by 15-30 seconds depending on mistakes using the above.

Although in most cases, the leader will also be the car that has covered the most distance htat's not always correct, in GT7 it is once the timer hits 30 mins, whichever lap you are on becomes the final lap and your final position is whatever place you are when you finish that lap.
I don't know about you or any one else but I consider this to be a bug.

If I'm 10 seconds behind the leader with 29:55 off the race elapsed then I'm classed as second, even if I could catch and pass P1 before they finish their last lap. That is how the other Gran Turismo games worked

There are three viable ways to end time based races and PD choose the one Kaz knows from his own racing experience.
  • Race ends for everyone when they cross the line after the time ran out. This is how the NĂĽrburgring 24h handles it, thought it became a tradition to wait for the leader in the final lap to have him actually finish the race first.
  • The race ends for everyone when the leader crossed the line before them after the time ran out.
  • When the time runs out it's one (or x) laps more for the ladder and everyone finished after he crossed the line, as said above.
So actually PDs way of finishing races is used irl, even though for the game the 2nd or 3rd way would be better imho.

If you pass P1, then you are in the lead no matter what lap...

I have been also testing the Alfa Romeo 4C Gr.4
It can perform just as well as the fuel sipping swift, unlike the swift which has understeer under acceleration the 4C has lift off over steer, but I am tuning it out.
But unlike the swift, this car is a bit more thirsty so lift & coast is needed, but because the car has more top speed your lift and coast won't really cost time.

its been an interesting kind of test - setting cars up for this versus the 700pp series. i'd be interested to hear what the most random car people have won this race with is...

i have won it with-
alpine 220, shelby cobra, f40, gto 84, miura, 330p4, 4c road car, gt40 mk1, 787b. if any car over 250hp can run the first part of the race (on any FM) and show me 3.0 laps, i am determined to try and make it work. while its not the best course for testing a car's handling, i push a little bit through the first through corners to see if its viable. basically, if its under 2300 lbs, i will try it. not being able to sort by engine size is kind of a bummer in this situation!

for what its worth i do TCS1 until the track is soaked, and then turn it up to avoid any drama. one stop if i can stay out for 3 laps, 2 stops if the rain comes down hard during lap 2. almost always hitting 6 laps due to rain - i only ever do intermediates - when i realize i have to do a 7th i'll take a second stop.

nothing better than being on lap 6, realizing you're 1 minute ahead of 2nd with 30 seconds of track left... and just coasting along until the flag changes from green to checkered

No - that isn’t the case.

I have overtaken the leader on his last lap, but I was chequered flagged as I crossed the line near as makes no difference after 30 mins.

However I have won this race at 34 mins. It’s definitely not how it used to work in the old GT games or any races I've been in in real life. I’m only a causal viewer if the N24h so I didn’t know that about it - but makes sense given such the long lap times. But still sounds like a crap idea.

I think Le Mans has the best system

I’ve won this in almost all gr4 cars. The Alfa 4c is by far the best when set up right. Can get up to 190 on the straights before the chicanes.

If anyone is having trouble with it, use the Mazda gr3 vision. I used it a couple of times but it feels like cheating it’s so much better than the rest of gr4.

I never thought of that, I spun my CLK twice in the rain in same race
i can be stubborn about it - i really want to test the set-ups - but after a few "heavy downpours enter the radar ten seconds after i pass the pit lane", i finally gave in... but only when the track wetness hits a certain level.

it pains me to see my valuable antiques damaged!

The "final lap" identifier only appears after the 30 minutes expire, and as I stated above, in basic race terms, if you pass P1 then that makes you P1 and you are in the lead, no matter where you are in the race whether you are in lap 1, lap 5, final lap. If you are on the track and time ends you need to cross the finish line to complete the race

I understand - I just think it is wrong.

I'd rather it was REAL. If P1 crosses the line at 29:55 but then hits the wall and explodes into a giant fireball, but P2 crosses the line at 30:01 I think it is wrong that they are automatically classed as finishing second regardless of the fact that P1 hasn't completed the full race distance in 30:00. But P2 will as he drives by P1s burning wreckage to then cross the line say 35:00.

That doesn't make sense in my head. They should've used the Le Mans/Formula E (set time + 1 lap) style that they used in previous games and that most real life races use.

I used the Tomohawk and I ended up doing 9 laps.
Well, after a change in weather today (sunny for the whole race) I still only managed 7 laps with 2 stops. I was going to say that only Aliens could manage 8 laps..... then this post popped up! Will have to give it a go.

The Tomohawk tops out at around 310MPH. So I lapped everybody at least once. It will go faster if I didn't use the 595PP Tweak

Is this event winnable in the Audi R18 or Toyota TS050 Hybrid? I won the shorter 800 event in these on no pit strategy but seems like they are absolute dogs on the straights when tuned down to 700 PP.

The Alpine A220 68 seems like it might be a good option though it is a bit more to handle. (And I keep getting penalized in this car. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Cutting corners?)

Yes I did it in the 2016 R18 (not bought the 2011 version for the trophy) - you'll need to limit its power and aero. I'll find my settings if you like

There are much better cars to do it in though

Settings would be great, but what are better cars? (I love this track...)

Once you get it tuned I think it’s ideal for this race - gives the option to one or two stop.

And I have run the race about 50 times and I have only gotten one penalty: I went a little bit wide on one of the final bends, and apparently came back on the track wrong. I’ve slid off that same part of the track many times, so I assume that one time I came back on too quickly. I’ve powerslid through the chicanes, 1080d into walls and off the track, but only got the one penalty.

Tuning suggestions?

It's such a cool car...

Basically any road car can win this that can top 180mph .
So its my new grind new car each time , just whack em up to the 700pp limit hard tyres set of wets just in case and its grind with a twist .
Pit every 2nd lap for fuel .

Pays for its self tuning up all you top notch đź‘Ś Road cars .

Just won it with my Group 4 NSX. A strange race, there was no rain, only 2 raindrops. It was not as easy as with cars with higher PP, this is a 654PP car and at the straights the Viper Group 4 just pulled away, only in the twisty section I could regain some lost time. But in the end I had to pit only once while the two fastest cars had to pit twice. I also stayed on racing hards fo the entire race.
The NSX has an excellent fuel efficiency.
