So today I came home to a massive box with the lights in it which is nice. My mum and I have the day off (my birthday) tomorrow so I shall head down to supercheap and buy some sealant and orange indicator lights and install it afterwards:).

Installed them today which took a couple of hours. Most of the time was spent cleaning the sealant off the new lights and the old sealant from the car. Took a couple of pictures along the way:

First light out, sealant to be cleaned off.

Heaps of dirt was on the top of both the old lights, hardly any seal left at all so I am surprised it never leaked.

Once I cleaned it up a little I threw the light in for a quick look before even attaching the car's colored plate to the new lights .

First one installed and working!

Looks really nice. I like these subtle mods, most people wouldn't know the difference, but it's clean and stands out to those who know what they are looking at. I dig your modding style.

Yeah thanks alot mate, its exactly the reaction I am going for. When my parents saw them yesterday they asked what the point was as they look similar. I replied with pretty much that, I don't care if it isn't out there and noticeable, i'd be happy with one compliment from a fellow impreza/ subie owner.

On the list of things to buy are OEM wrx wheels, either from this generation or the one after. Either those are coming next or perhaps a numberplate, a slimmer, dark blue colored one would be nice and they really don't cost all that much. Maybe if I find some reasonably priced springs I might jump on those too and head down to Punknoodle's to get them fitted.

I can't turbo the car, not until I am something like 20 or 21 and on my open license. Until then I am stuck with power and induction restrictions etc.

Hang on, where you live you can only drive cars with a certain power?

Hang on, where you live you can only drive cars with a certain power?

Yeah because I am on a restricted license for a few years I am limited to certain power and other stuff.

Officially it is the following:

High-powered (performance) vehicle restrictions apply to P1 and P2 licence holders under the age of 25 years.

These restrictions also apply to probationary licence holders who return from a disqualification to a P1 or P2 probationary licence, when at the time of the offence they were under 25 years of age. These restrictions apply for the duration of the probationary period regardless of age.

High-powered (performance) vehicles include those with:

eight or more cylinders
a turbocharged or supercharged engine that is not diesel powered
an engine that has a power output of more than 210kW as per the manufacturer's specifications
a rotary engine that has an engine capacity of more than 1146cc as per the manufacturer's specifications
a modified engine that must be approved under section 13 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management — Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2010.

With the following possible exemption. I could have bought a WRX and applied for an exemption but I didn't know at the time:
1. Moderately-powered turbocharged or supercharged vehicle

You may apply for a certificate of exemption if the vehicle you wish to drive meets all of the following:

has a turbocharged or supercharged engine that is not diesel powered
has a power-to-weight ratio of not more than 125kW/t
does not have any other features of a high-powered vehicle as outlined above.
The power-to-weight ratio means the ratio (expressed in kilowatts per tonne) calculated by dividing the car’s maximum engine power in kilowatts by the kerb weight and multiplying the product of the division by 1000. For example, the power to weight ratio of a vehicle that has a maximum engine power of 195kW and a kerb weight of 1667kg would be calculated as follows: (195÷1667) × 1000 = 117kW/tonne

Check if your vehicle is a moderately-powered turbocharged or supercharged vehicle*.

I love the way the lights look. Happy Birthday!

What? You can't have an FC rx7? Of any kind? Huh... Yeah anyway happy birfsday.

Thanks guys :).

Umm I am honestly not sure, I don't know much at all when it comes to rotary's and the specs etc. There is a website which checks whats legal, ill dig it up.

The new rear lights look great... Good choice!

You should get some custom slimline numberplates, too. I find they are one of the best ways to improve the cars' appearance if you live in Australia, especially in WA or QLD where you have a massive selection of styles and colours.

Yeah, interestingly enough, Turbolag was telling me to do that as well.

They aren't all that unaffordable at around 440 for a coloured one. That allows you to have 2 or 3 numbers followed by 3 letters or 2 or 3 letters followed by 3 numbers.

I need to come up with a good one and make it dark blue and slim line I think.

You should definitely consider it. Those standard plates we have in Australia just aren't classy enough.

I had a quick look on the QLD plate site, and noticed it was pretty different from ours. By memory, I payed about $550 for Acrylic slimline plates where you can choose any number/character combination you'd like (although there is hardly anything good left) and a few colours to choose from. My Celica had Aluminium black slimline plates for $150, where you could choose two letters, two numbers, and the final two letters had to be 'WA'. But again, there was hardly anything left to choose from.

The one you mentioned doesn't sound too bad. It's a shame the options in QLD are a bit restricted to a higher price range though. Still, I reckon it would look awesome in black or dark blue. :)

Isn't it sad that in order to have classy plates like Euro plates we have to pay so much extra when in Europe, class is standard . Ahhh, love Australia!

Do you watch Mightycarmods? They basically do their show with a style that is similar to yours. They're doing a Twin turbo 1jz swap in to a Cressida right now. Here's a link to the video since embedding is being weird for me:

Yeah, have been watching them for around a year now. It's definitely a brilliant show, with great style and the bonus of being Aussie ;).

:ill:Well good thing you weren't in the market. Your only choice is the FB. Not that that's a bad thing but still. Thanks for the "learn something new everyday" info.

Well today's the day, i'm going for my test in 1 hour. I'll let you lot know how I go :).

EDIT: I passed, can now drive by myself!

Should be getting some new wheels next saturday. 2002 WRX Wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE002's with a supposed 75% tread left on each. I'm only getting them for 350 too, the guy doesn't seem to have any idea how good the tyres actually are as he did not purchase them which seems to be working in my favour . They look like these:

The centre caps have lost paint so I presume I can just buy new centre caps and the rims may need touching up, I don't really have all that much information from him.

Tomorrow i'll probably head down to a wrecker and see if they have an impreza down there so that I can take the reverse switch (mine doesn't work, reverse lights won't light up) and a plug for the left tail light. My left brake light doesnt work (only the brake part of it, same problem on the old lights too) and we have brought it down to being a dodgy plug on the car side of things.

After these things are out of the way and the wheels are fitted and aligned I can probably start looking for new springs :). Now lets see how this all does or does not pan out.

Cool first car Legendary and great project you have going there 👍, wish I could have got a saloon as my first car but in the UK that's pretty rare to achieve (hatchback city here!).

So what have you got planned after the wheels and springs? STi bodykit? :sly:

Im honestly not sure. The older GC8's (pre facelift) look pretty bad with the full WRX kit, it's not sharp and aggressive like the new ones so I don't know if i'll bother with a full kit. I've been considering the higher spoiler though.

The bigger problem is that I didn't intend to put too much money into the car. It's a first car and I think I was only going to have it until the end of next year before buying something better as I was going to do full time work all of next year. Now it turns out I am going on to further education so the car could be with me for the next 4 or so years, in which case it's okay to spend a bit on it because it's going to be mine for much longer.

In around a year or so it will need a replacement gearbox as third gear and possibly fourth are wearing out, the synchros in third don't work unless you crunch it in, or wait for the revs to drop. So that's going to be expensive, and something to look at as a cost in the big picture. Hmmmmmm, cars!

Great, had wheels pulled out from me again. The guy didn't get enough tax return or something to fund his new wheels and therefore can't sell me the ones he had for sale..

Some good news is that the left brake light issue is fixed. I went down to a wrecker to get a reverse switch and tail light plug, they didnt have the switch but they spent 10 mins of their time getting to the car/ plug and cutting it out for me and didn't charge me a cent for it which is nice. It's extra nice because it turns out that wasn't the problem. The connection between the bulb and the socket seemed to be minimal so we lubed it up and sent it back in and it seems to be fine now, connecting better.

Dialectic grease...is handy.
Why do I get this feeling that was a sexual pun .

Have you tried shorting out the switch to make sure it is actually the switch that is faulty?

My step dad spent 2 or so hours on it one day at work and came to the conclusion it was the switch but last night we discovered something. I'll give a little backing story :P.

A couple of mates and I decided to head down to Harry's Diner to check out Muscle night (brilliant turn out) and after a few hours down there we headed to Mt Cootha to do the drive around it. After that we came back to a spot a little bit further down than the lookout to take photos of our cars as he had brought a proper camera along. I'll post them in here once he has looked at them this morning and sent them to me, they should look tonnes better than anything I can take with my phone .

Anyway, while moving my car into position, my friend who knows about the reverse light problem told me they lit up. A little later we discovered that if I brake in reverse the lights will light up for the period of time they brakes are on . Will speak to my step dad about that later and see if that changes what the problem is.

Also, a tip for you Punknoodle, don't drive through the city and the valley at 11pm on Friday. You will get bottles thrown on the road infront of you and see tonnes of slutty 19 year olds :P.

Haha yes I know of these silly goings on in the valley lol. I once had a drunk guy step out in front of me in the valley I nearly hit the dude!

Funnily enough I went for a drive through the valley in my car on Thursday night, it was all nicely polished and looking awesome as always lol. There was this new Porsche, I don't know what model except it was a new 911 - it had something like brrrrrr on the plate - that pulled out of a side street and was just coasting along, and I passed him just cruising along. I look over and he has some HOT bird in the passenger seat and I was smiling away - because I was looking at a nice new Porsche - and he just floors it takes off down Ann St at some wicked pace.

I had two thoughts. One was, holy crap that car sounded AMAZING and my god its fast! And my second was probably completely unfounded but in my little head I thought it was cool that a guy driving a brand new Porsche felt the need after seeing my car to show off lol. I was quite proud of that haha.
