Those lights they have in the CBD at the moment are great, made that picture look awesome. Oh, and welcome to the modification(in reference to having to roll guards etc) game, one the bug bitten tho it's very hard to stop!

There is a bunch more but I havent gotten the time to look at them and touch them up etc. The lights do look fantastic from Coot-Ha, asked the girlfriend out looking at that view the other week ;).

Did you take it off-roading? :P

Nah its just a little pull over point on one of the mountains near the city, pretty much a tourist attraction for the view.

I do like the new wheels. When are you getting the springs on? Are you dropping it as much as you can?

Not really sure to be honest. I can't do anything to it for a few weeks while my parents are away as I can't afford to be without it. The damage needs to get repaired first and after that gets done ill look into getting the springs + shocks done right after.

I wont drop it that much, not sure at the moment but definitely not on its ass.

I think you might be wise getting the shocks/springs done while the repairs are done. No point in getting it repaired and then take it back in to do the suspension and leave yourself without a car for longer than necessary.

Well, I would certainly look at shocks/springs for performance/ride quality over just for looks. Dropping an inch or two will help it look better, but be careful about sacrificing too much ride quality to get there. Ok, getting off of my old man soap box. :)

Have fun with it!

Ugh, the exhaust is sounding disgusting and is utterly embarrassing to be seen driving with. As the weeks have progressed since the accident a crack has been getting bigger and bigger somewhere near the muffler and it wont be fixed until the car gets fixed. This is causing the exhaust to sound raspy/ ricey/ tinny/ rattley and all that lovely rubbish. Here is a video, the phone doesnt pick up the sound too well on the accelerating revs but you can hear the rattle.

!!

It truly is, especially as most driving is done between that 2-3.5k rattle range :nervous:.

On a more unrelated note, a few weeks/ months ago I was saying how my modding style isn't to appeal to the ricey younger people but rather to people who know what model that car is. The good news is that it gets a bit of attention from other GC8 drivers, I catch them looking all the time. I've seen a few real STI's in my travels too. The drivers look but I can only imagine they are laughing or enjoying the fact they have a real one .

Finally the car is all repaired! I'm not sure if I mentioned it but there was damage in the boot, some of the spare tire cut out was pushed in. That among the other stuff is now all fixed. The bumper looks kinda funny being brand new (plastic bit shines alot more than the rest of the plastic) but its straight now so thats good. The exhaust got replaced by a single 3.5" tip rather than a twin tip at no extra cost to me. I had the brake light fixed (said it was damaged in the accident) and got the spoiler repainted as it was slightly the wrong colour and also in bad condition.

Here is the car 5 mins ago:

The other day I almost bought super low springs (40-50mm drop) but I really need shocks to go with it and at that cost I might as well buy coilovers. In saying that, the price of coilovers is just too much to even bother with on this car so it might just have to stay at the height it is now.

Well, 🤬.

I've been involved in yet ANOTHER accident and again, it isn't my fault. I was headed straight through a two lane roundabout (both lanes go straight) and some lady went straight through it from the left. She stopped, looked, and still went despite the fact I was IN the roundabout. I've absolutely had it with female drivers, and I don't even want to be sexist but the fact is that I never have had issues like that with male drivers.

Anyway heres the damage, I wasn't sure about driving it home so I got my parents to swing by on their way home and help me out. There was some metal and rubbish that my step dad removed to stop scrubbing on the wheel and so far it looks like the damage is just superficial. There didn't seem to be damage to the steering on my drive home so hopefully all is well there. The other persons insurance will pay for this like last time and with any luck i'll have a new bumper, bonnet, headlight, indicator, foglight cover, grill + anything else we can't see.

That is fantastic as the front end is a little shabby, there are stone marks over it and the bonnet is a bit like that too. The problem is that I am again without a car and this time I really can't drive it till its fixed. I wont find out when that could be until at least tomorrow as insurance is closed over the weekend.

Right afterwards:

I do have photos of the other car and the road but I can't be bothered uploading them just yet. The other car was a Ford Falcon so it seemed to fair up pretty well, being a big car and all.

Dang guy! Go drive in mud, it will give you rally cred! ;)
But seriously hope it works out for you!

You really should stop running into things, I hear it's terrible for the paint.

Yeah that's what they tell me, I just can't help myself!

But the actual fact is that its a little short term pain for long term gain, the paint/ parts that come back will be completely new so thats the gain :).

The car got towed away yesterday to the same repairer as last time. They find it funny as they were only working on it a month ago . Apparently im looking at getting it back in two weeks time, Friday the 14th but possibly sooner.

The people at the repairer are actually really top people. Apparently my insurance company got a quote for new parts last time, charged the other insurance company (the one at fault) that money, and then tried to get the repairer to use second hand parts outside of the agreement so that they could pocket the extra money. The repairer isn't a fan of dodgy jobs and isntead fought my insurer and made sure I got new parts. Because of this my insurer doesn't want me to use that repairer this time around but after hearing that they can seriously go an kiss my 🤬.

It's pretty sad they try and play cheap with their own customers but thankfully good people are still around to do the right thing and because of that I am more than happy to recommend the repairer to anyone.

Who you insured with?

Youi. The only reason I am insured with them is because I am insured under my mums name and she is with them.

Under her name I pay roughly $800 a year for comprehensive, under mine with Youi it would be $3000+, pretty much the insured value of the car.

Sucks man. Glad you have a good mechie looking out for your best interests. Hard luck about the accident in the first place too - luckily she didnt collect your front wheel as that may have created all sorts with suspension and driveshafts.

Sad to see a GC8 like that! I know if someone gets SIC EM like that, 🤬 is going to go down quick smart.

Good to know you'll be getting brand new stuff though, always a bonus!

Yeah, the damage could be in the price range of over $2000 as it is. If it had have caused any damage to the suspension/ steering and all the rest it would most certainly have been written off.

The stupid thing about that is if it is written off due to someone elses stupidity I actually lose $3000-$3500. Its only insured for 3.5k and in total its worth around 7k to me....huge loss for a person on my budget.

I was so close to just losing my 🤬 at her. Never in my life have I seen a driver with such little awareness and so much stupidity. Lucky I am a respectable young male and hopped out with my lips zipped ;).

Yeah its nice considering how many marks and stuff it had on the front anyway.

Good deal about the bodyshop, and the fact that the insurance company hasn't totaled/written it off yet.. Colin McRae nostalgia seeing these cars.. :)

Yeah its all good news :).

, shame mine has the ugliest front end of all of the imprezas from that era. The facelift models (97-00) look miles better.

Ugh, so the repairer calls me today and tells me that he noticed a radiator hose has come loose and the car had barely any coolant in it. Depending on how long it drove like that it could be on it's way to being toast. They've topped it up but the first thing I need to do when I get it back is take it for a service.

I need the whole lot to get checked over and also let them know that the oil is burning, as in, it's running out way too quickly and that's also bad as it can run the car to toast as well. It's funny though that the temperature gauge never reads hot even though it apparently has no coolant.

The coolant temperature sensor measures the temperature of the coolant as it passes through the coolant manifold. If there is no coolant it is merely measuring the temperature of the manifold and the air within it.

Say there is a blockage, then the temperature of the coolant will increase and radiate through to the sensor, if the engine is working hard and getting hot it will do the same thing, same with a thermo fan failing, same deal.

With a leak, the remaining water in the system may not get hot until way past the point in which the coolant sensor can't really get effected by the coolant any more..

Ahh I see 👍.

In other news everyone, I have found a ripper deal on some MY99 WRX struts with king low springs on them (25-30mm drop). The ones on my car at the moment are probably 230k old and are completely and utterly shot. So replacing them would be good, but replacing them with better ones (wrx ones are an improvement) is great and will probably make a very noticeable difference on the handling and ride.

I am hoping to get Punknoodle to fit them for me and if I do need to roll my guards (apparently I shouldn't, but I may) I have a mate who can do that for me too.

The problem is that the owner of the struts and springs isn't willing to post them (despite having held them for 2 years) so I may have to get another member on here to pick them up in person and post them to me.

Gotta love having contacts!

Haha yeah mate I'll chuck em in with ya. You shouldn't need rolling, but if you do I can recommend the guy who did mine, he did an awesome job.
