Damn it, if I were in Aussie land, I'd likely help out, too. I need practice, anyways.

I've been learning to work on cars for a few years, now. I've done bodywork, sandblasting, repairs, tires, brakes, suspension, maintenance, diagnostics... and the spark plugs on my wagon. :sly:

Word's cannot express how keen I am to get my car back tomorrow, it's like buying it all over again. It may be a slow, cheap, turd but it's my car and I miss it :P.

Or how about a big fat NOPE. Gotta wait another day cause they marked the paint or something while working on it and need to repaint something.

I am so over this inconvenience on my life. No car for 3 weeks and no compensation or hire car or anything, and I didn't even cause it. What a joke really.

I imagine for a young guy with already expensive premiums, ticking yet another option box on the policy to add to it wasn't something that was done.

I have the glass excess buy out on mine so if I get a broken windscreen or any window for that matter I don't have to pay an excess. Up to one a year.

Does your insurance cover a hire car? My insurance can but I haven't got it as part of my policy.

I am not sure if I can even get a hire car, being a provisional driver. But even so, I don't want to pay extra money each year for a hire car if its going to be used in accidents that aren't my fault.

Like, if I am being inconvenienced by some other useless idiot I expect that their insurance should cover me with a car. It makes no sense. I would be happy to be without a car if it were my fault and I hadn't paid for that coverage but not being my fault, I find it ridiculous.

Sure does, here's to like 10 years of good driving luck or something  .

I'll drink to that. So long as I don't get behind the wheel afterwards :sly:

Knock on wood but I'm coming onto 5 years since getting my L's without an accident or infringement on my name. It's such a shame though that there are so many people out there who don't have acceptable awareness on our roads and then inevitably go and do something stupid.

Best of luck that this doesn't happen to you again mate 👍 hate to see even more battle scars on the GC haha.

Haha, I can't have a drop of alcohol in my system before I get behind the wheel ;).

5 years driving and that wrx is probably your first turbo car? I'll probably be headed into 04 wrx territory in this coming year, a little bit prematurely I must admit :P.

Yeah let's hope it doesn't get more, it's going to be a little difficult to sell now with it's obvious minor accident history (new parts look a little sus).

Sure is :) almost certainly won't be my last hi-po turbo car though, in a couple of years I'll be looking at an 00 or 04 STi, maybe Godzilla territory.

I can imagine. Once you've gone down that route there is no looking back! ;)

04 STi, do it. That way I can make mine look like yours, cause that's what Im going to do best till I can ever own one :P.

I agree with the 2004. There is something I really like about that year. :dopey:

I can't speak for the Australian market, but GD STI prices are really good lately. More and more people are selling them for the new STIs (some even for the BRZ  ).

Edit: A quick search proves me wrong. Dayum, STIs cost an arm and a leg over there.

This has super low miles, and to be honest, that prices isn't too bad for that fact.

Yeah, see my budget is around 15000 .

There's that and the fact I can't get an exemption to drive an sti. It needs to be under 125kw/tonne and meet a couple of other criteria in order for me to be able to drive a Turbo on this license. The wrx is 120.xx kW/t so it just makes it :).

From that point I can do a few sneaky mods and they can't really tell it's quicker than stock.

Whoa sounds very strict over there. I can make my car as fast as my money allows at any age. Maybe that's not a good thing. :sly:

Better to start slow and make your way up and learn about cars that way. I can't tell you how many idiots crash their cars around here because mommy and daddy bought them a fast car at age 16.

Yeah it's strict until you are on an open license, which is a minimum of 4 or so years after you start driving. It's good though in a way, we had some horror crashes before these laws came in with young drivers driving GTR's and stuff that get to 200km/h in no time. Famous example of that would be EVLR34 which flew into a tree at something like 200km/h.

You're not wrong, starting slow is definitely a good idea. Mine is slow, speed wise, but that has allowed me to reach its potential which isn't that high and understand it/ cars in general without being at too much risk. The next step, as I said, is a turbo model. With those though you get much more safety features as well, airbags, abs, tcs, all that stuff. My car has none of that .

That is a nasty accident.

Are there restrictions on modifying a car on an open license? Would you consider making yours quicker down the road?

I imagine that would still be costly over there but could be a fun option before getting a new turboed car. But who knows maybe when you are ready to get a new car the prices of STIs could be more within your range. :)

I am NOT keeping this car for another 3 years!.

I am looking to buy a new one within the next 12 months, and as I said, i'm looking at GDB wrx's. It would be extremely stupid to make my current car quicker as GC wrx's are the exact same price as mine (stupid I know) and making N/A cars quicker is difficult on the cheap.

I will however, make the new car quicker as it's more cost efficient and I plan to keep it for many more years (at least 2 [open license], if not more).

And to answer your first question, you can modify whatever you like on your open license so long as it still road worthy and legal. Certain mod's like engine swaps (non factory engines) and things seat removals (making a 5 seater car a 2 seater) that completely change how the car was out of the factory require 'engineering' and a mod plate.

Sounds like youve got it all sorted. You'll love the GD WRXs!

I would do unspeakable things to live in a place with such a wide selection of GC Imprezas. That said how much you want for your car? ;)

Yes I am very keen for the step up! :)

Trust me you don't want to do that, it's disgustingly slow ;). I am looking for around a lowest of $5000 which is the bottom end of the market and that shouldn't be too unreasonable I think. I'd buy a GC WRX or STi if I were you, they aren't expensive at all here. For any australian related carsales you might be interested in, carsales is our best website.

EDIT: And mine's the ugly pre-facelift version. If were to ever buy another GC, i'd buy the newer shape as the front end looks much better.

Oh thanks for link! I told myself I'd never sell my car but I'm seeing some amazing GCs listed on there....

I like yours because I see a lot of room to make it into a rally or autocross dedicated car. At that price I could see some thrashing around for no reason fun. :D

Are you moving over here? For the price you'd get from your car (I think), you'd be able to buy a nice daily, possibly a GC, as well as a side project/ track car. If it is strictly for track days and stuff I am pretty sure most events don't even need it to be registered.

I am not sure about the offroad potential but with some nice handling mods such as suspension, sway bars and tyres it'd absolutely tear up an autocross track. The car only weighs 1.1 tonnes as opposed to the GDB wrx's I am looking at which are around 1.4-1.5?

EDIT: Yeah like I was saying, you can get really cheap sti's. However that one does have alot of k's on it.

I'm flying there in 2 days for an interview in Melbourne, so who knows. Fingers crossed.

I'm not worried about a high mileage car. Engines are easier to find than the cars. My car is depreciating more and more each day (because I daily drive it), but it's not too far fetched to get rid if it for a decent GC. But considering the other expenses of an international move I'd be happy with a car like yours for a while.

Yours is still super fun to drive no? :sly:

Oh very nice! If you move down i'll be sure to drop in sometime. I am headed that way sometime in the first half of next year 👍.

Yes that is true, Subaru engines are plentiful over here that's for sure. It's fun to drive from a drivers perspective. Like i've said, it's not straight line quick but its small and nippy, with even more potential to be nippy. With this car it feels like you are driving a car, like you are directly connected to the car. There is no aids of any description and even stuff like the gearbox just feels so...tight and connected. I've driven a Swift, Rio, Yaris and a couple of other popular cars and they feel so assisted and clunky.

So yeah it's fun. You know the feeling, but you get a really nice feeling of satisfaction while driving a Subaru. People in their commodores and falcons (our fast sedans you may not be familiar with) will often show off their straight line speed but when it comes to the next corner the Subaru is leaps and bounds quicker and undoubtedly more fun to drive.

I'm roughly 450km west of Melbourne. Road trip? :sly:

Also to Legendary, thought about Club Spec Evos? Should be able to find a 7 for roughly $15k and they've got a few goodies on them, mainly in the interior.

Maybe not this one specifically, just an example.

I have actually. The sunroof and leather interior are the biggest selling points for me there. I haven't looked into it but do they come in other colours? I really like the Subaru blue mica and am going to lean more towards a car with that colour :).

The 7s come in the WR Blue, silver and black I believe. 8s come in either a champagne or Crystal Grey but I think they're still outside $15k.

Well if one pops up ill be sure to check it out. Im willing to travel interstate to buy one so i'm pretty open to any options :). Mind you it's still many months of saving away.

Well I just picked my car up an hour ago. I can't put pictures up yet as the weather is terrible and the indicator isn't fixed yet (broken till Friday). It looks looks really nice at the front, no marks on the bumper or bonnet or anything like that which is nice compared to before.

It also got a wheel alignment (they do it regardless of where the damage was) and it tracks in a straight line now which is good, whereas before it would pull left. Pretty happy with the job, I just need them to pop a new indicator housing in when it arrives and it'll be all good :).
