I've always wanted an Impreza from that Gen. In America those are not taken care of at all.

I've seen some in Canada. The shipping wouldn't be too bad, or, if you have a passport, just drive up, get one, and drive down.

Edit: a majority of these are legitimately Canadian.

Mate, I'm about to be broke. I e-mailed Borla...

And, my mate with the RX-7 has asked me to pick up a second GoPro, for him. So, I guess I'll have a LOT of things to buy, rather shortly.

I really can't wait, though. I'm going to use the GoPro to record the original engine notes, (from inside and outside,) and compare them to after the exhaust upgrades.

And, yeah, hip-hip-hooray for Australia!!!!!

I had to. V8 Supercars  Artistic madness, really.
Borla replica headers, omg, do it!!

I hadn't seen that video of Madison's before, gotta love our V8 Supercars!

Here they were a pretty highly stolen car but other than that, they are kept in good shape :).

Who said anything about replicas? :scared: :ouch:

Don't be afraid to think custom. There are a couple of off the shelf kits for mine but I didn't like em. So I had one made to exactly what I wanted, and the quality and workmanship is superior to any of the mass produced kits (for mine, anyway. There are some pretty knarly titanium ones getting around for various models).

I already had a custom dump pipe so I just got it done from there back. 3", mandrel bends, good quality stainless, high flow stainless cat and custom single straight through muffler which he installed as high up and discrete as he could, with a 3 1/2" tip, and he put a flame effect on the very tip of it for me as I wanted that.

It cost a bit more than any of the off the shelf kits but I got exactly the sound I wanted, and it flows brilliantly (too good actually as boost creep was a massive issue once I had it installed), and the guy who did it pretty much exclusively works on high performance / race and show cars, so the looks are there.

Legendary - I fully recommend him, his name is Brian from Exhaust Innovations, in Capalaba.

I wouldnt spend money on the exhaust for this car, I might look into him for the next one though 👍.

So I really want to spend money on the stereo system and make it my own. The previous owner put the speakers in (which aren't bad), sub, headunit and did all the wiring and stuff.

I want something as integral to the car as that to be my own work. I have since replaced the headunit for one with bluetooth audio streaming but I am thinking of going the extra mile and going for an iPad dash install. I can pick up an older iPad for less than the price of the current Alpine headunit and the various parts I need for it for less than $50 I am sure.

Ill buy a second hand dash surround as i'll be cutting the current one to have the iPad fit properly, that way if I decide to remove it all before selling the car I can still do so. The current subwoofer is some cheap nasty one, US Audio brand. It has this horrible little plastic bit in the middle that actually rattles as the subwoofer vibrates (idiot designers). So i'll probably buy a new one of those and either get a box that properly fits in my boot or put it behind a carpeted face plate so that it looks flush.

So that's the idea, it shouldn't cost too much to put into action and i'll learn a bit about car installs for the future and also just electrics in general (my dad is an electronic technician, yet i'm inexperienced with it all).

EDIT: This is what I mean by the carpeted face plate thing, this is in my step dads car:

That's a pretty neat setup. The sub in the boot of my Rex is just in the enclosure it came in (I don't use the boot space for anything else so I thought hell, I'll chuck a big-arse sub in there) and was only $290, great bang (or in this case, boom) for buck in my opinion.

Neat idea with the iPad setup too, I want to see how that'll work out! My head unit's got passenger app control so I can control some of my iPod Touch's apps on the head unit itself, sorta like a MirrorLink setup, but it's only basic.

Good idea on the iPad dash setup. Just remember that it's never as easy as MCM makes it look.

So, have you crashed it yet?

Yeah his setup isn't bad, it's changed a little since that picture with a better screen and wiring but it's neat :).

And to both of you, the iPad idea does sound alright, it's just whether my inexperienced little hands will be able to pull it off. I'll just have to take my time and plan it more than someone who knows what they are doing but I should be right :).

And yes, it will be quite similar to the MCM setup!

Is there an easy way to wire the iPad to an instant call? I don't own one, so I don't know about the ease of use, but, my dad just got me a Boxing Day () gift of Bluetooth ready stereo. :) $160 awesome dollars later, I press two buttons to make a call, and only one to receive an incoming call. Not to mention a nice sounding stereo (but no sub :( = no awesome dubstep) and an autostop music playback when on the phone...

But, I'll admit, the Bluetooth audio streaming is a pain. My phone reverts to playing through my Marley headphones, RATHER than just staying "JVC unit enabled."

So today I decided i'd install the upcoming iPad with the headunit still in place, and use the headunit as the amp. That is alot easier for me as the car doesn't have an amp and requires much less rewiring and the rest.

I intended for the headunit to be relocated inside the glovebox, however it turned out that there was not enough room. So we instead used a dremel to cut a hole out of the glovebox to put the headunit into. The glovebox now no longer opens unless you unscrew the screws holding it shut but that's not an issue as it really wasn't used. I relocated the 12V cigarette lighter to be beside the headunit as I still need it for the GPS and it couldn't sit in the center console any longer.

This is the end result, the large hole beside it is for the iPad ;).

Also, we will probably create a surround for the headunit to cover up the sides and bottom as it sticks out a little.

Wood? Fiberglass? Fabrication is always fun.

Will you put the faux leather surface of the glove box there, too?

I really like that idea, for some reason.

I'm not sure yet to be honest, we'll see what we can come up with :).

In-dash iPad? What.

You know it! ;)

Go watch the mighty car mods iPad install video and you'll see where i'm headed!

^ Perspex is your best bet.

I like the idea of having a tablet as my headunit but unfortunately Toyota didn't design the Hilux Surf with enough space in the dash to fit a tablet.

@ Mel: How can you stand Marley headphones, they're horrible!

Well, wood's a bit finicky (if you let it stay after cutting/measuring, your measurements will be wrong - soaks up moisture and expands) and fiberglass requires a bit of gloves, mask, and :nervous: some mixing.

Also, heck yeah, Sharky. I like the iPad dash. :) I've got my car's dash made into a mobile phone, too, and it plays music. An iPad dash... Legendary's just 1-up'ing me.

Can anyone else think of a way to make his head unit blend?

I need to research this Perspex stuff.

As for the Marleys, I love them! They're actually really good for the music I listen to (dubstep, chillstep, ambient, future garage, D'n'B and orchestral dubstep) because they offer a surprising amount of bass without interfering with the higher treble.

Perspex is also known as acrylic glass or Plexiglass. Its kinda like a plastic that is clear but can be painted, it can also be worked with in the same way as wood and can be molded to a different shape using heat (I used a sheet to create the main chamber of the wind-tunnel I built years ago  )

That's a very valid option, then. I just didn't know that it was also called Perspex. "You learn something new every day."

Kyle, could you have mounted the head unit vertically in the centre console, between the seats? I dunno what your transmission tunnel console looks like but surely there would be a bit of space between the shifter and handbrake? Whether it would be enough I don't know though... what about in the centre console storage compartment? Probably not enough space there either I guess

Does that head unit come with a little remote control so that you can control things the iPad can't without reaching all the way over there while driving?

Nope, it seems a bit dumb really. For a high end single din headunit that really is a little bit slack!

I'd strongly suggest making sure you only use the iPad when stopped.

Else you might crash. Again.

Implying either of the crashes were my fault..

Looks like I might be moving interstate shortly, back to my hometown of Adelaide. I think it will only be for a year or so but I really need a break and new surroundings, to get away from all the crap here, even if only for a bit.

Murcie_LP640 lives down that way too, we'll be the GTP GC8 representatives of South Australia ;).

So yes, I will be driving the car down there with all my belongings, its a solid 3 day drive with a second driver, if I can't get another driver i'll probably space it out and take a week or so. Along the way I also need to pick up those WRX shocks and springs from Melbourne.

With respect (I'm also a new driver,) I'd just like to remind you to be careful during your cross-country (the useful part of Australia, anyway.)

Even I feel like I'm closer to crashing, when I have no idea where I'm going. It doesn't happen often, compared to my parents, but, even as such....
