Haha I need all the help I can get, I'm already anticipating getting my butt whooped with all these fast drivers.

I missed the first race in last season's Wednesday night Lemons series, and I finished the season in third.

Diabolical_J, that makes perfect sense to me. Given the flip scenario, it is quite possible for one of the leaders to skip a race late in the season and pick up 5,000 credits by sacrificing the low number of points they may have gained.

So it promotes race skipping instead of sandbagging.

If the rule is that you only get 5,000 credits if you miss a race, so be it. In the end, we're just playing for fun, so it's not a big deal. However, I think it's kind of stupid that someone who can't make it for a legitimate reason (i.e. no power) gets penalized so heavily, yet someone who sandbags the race or even someone that starts the race then drops out gets rewarded.

So, how about you get 5000 credits or your the credits you would get, which ever is less?

I suppose I should have said that I missed the first race last season because of hurricane Irene.

This is the first season doing the cash allocations based on standings and not race finish. So I suspect there may be some kinks to work out.

But, I look at it like this:

If we have a late entry to the series, that person, in seasons past, has only gotten 5,000 Cr. for each race missed.

You have 0 points and are tied for last. If you win next week, you likely won't be at the top of the leaderboard, so you will get more cash than you probably need.

The problem wasn't so much being unable to make it, but being unable to find anyone willing to stand in. That is kind of a shame, and I'm not sure how to address that in the future. If I ever have to miss a race, I'll run someone's Bobs as much as I can for a week if they'll stand in for me. And even gift them a 1M Cr. car if they want.

Mind you, Credits are so easy that that might not be an incentive.

Something else we can consider is dropping everyone's lowest race. Won't matter to me, since this last week will likely be my best finish all season. :( It should've been a 2nd place, but oh well.

I wasn't trying to stir up drama, just clarifying the rules and I need every advantage I can get haha.

Dont forget about setting the clocks back this weekend (US). Still same start time right?

Yes, races are local Eastern time. I think all of the Eastern time zone observes daylight savings time.

Great...uh, lets stick to this category...I'll take "Other GTP Usernames That Don't Match Their PSN Names" for $200, Alex.

"This user is infamous for his on-track backward racing shenanigans, and 'original' lines around Oriental race tracks"

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

As one of the drivers who was unable to make it, I'd like to play devil's advocate regarding the credits awarded. If I'm not mistaken, the rules state that cash will be allocated based on season standings, not race finish. Technically, since the four of us are all tied for 11th place with 0 points, shouldn't we each receive 20,000 credits?

Like the lotto, you have to play to win. As far as I'm concerned, the races go the same way. You cannot be awarded anything if you are not playing so these folks who have yet to show for a race are too me not a part of the standings. Currently...I'd say Spooble is last with at least 5 drivers having not yet started. They are not in last because they have not played.

So, I see your technicality point and raise you with Logic + technicality.

Your turn.

I'll give spoobies 9th, if I can have 10th and the cash that goes along with it! I was counting on that 20K.. :P

PS: I'm going to log in as my normal (not GTP_ account) and run some Spa... anyone want to join for a bit?

Oh now you're just fighting dirty. Logic has no place on the internet.

Any interest in practice session tonight? Ill be in my lounge 1030pm est running dfr either way. if u dont wish to use race day car...any lightly modded 355ish pp cars are ok to use

I might hop on for a bit and try to get my thumbs in shape for next week. I ran a few laps last night, and even getting to spend 20k on the car, I'm still just running around 1:40 flat. I'm sure I could get a little faster using the wheel, but I thought I was doing an OK job with the controller. Am I really that slow, or was Cujo's 1:36 - 1:38 prediction a little optimistic? :)

I'd say 1'37 is certainly doable next race..:mischievous:

I might try and pop on... We'll see what the evening brings.

A 2nd place...... Unless you swapped in a magician to drive there is no way you should've or could've beaten me, or dab or diabolic for that matter

Not to double post, but DFR is my fav track and I run it with every car I have. My predictions are dead on. Anyone with 20,000 regardless of car type to start should be in that range and if they aren't they are a. Bad driver or b. Sandbagging two races to start for high rpm turbo and tranny.

I was in second until I touched the dirt on lap 36. Dabney was ahead of me. There was no magic to it. And as I've pointed out, you passed me twice, but couldn't stay infront of me. If I hadn't've taken myself out, I think the chances were very good I could've finished second.

As I pointed out in an earlier post. There were two likely scenarios. I kept my position and finished second, or you passed me with just a lap or two to go, meaning you didn't have enough time to make a mistake and give me the position back. Since you had your brother in your draft, then I likely would've fallen to battle you for third and not second.

Is there a running joke here or just arrogance?

I think the running joke is me. I'm not a very good driver, and I don't think anyone likes the idea of finding themselves behind me. But I am trying, and I am getting better. I didn't wreck anyone last week, so that is good. If I remember correctly, I didn't wreck anyone last season. Now I just need to keep my own car on the track for the full hour. My qualifying time was not particularly good. I think it was a 1:16.9. But it was relatively consistent.

Garris you've gotten a lot better since we started... I don't think you can/should say you're not very good anymore, but rather that you're average..and sometimes better than average.

Last race the track was so short and the chances of going off on any corner so high (esp. Since you see the same ones so often), that I don't think predictions of who couldve done what carry much weight...though I should add that it was quite impressive when diabolic took a break and then came back to be up front...!

I wouldn't say better than average. I think nights like last week, and the race where I've had a podium finish, are due in large part to my car. If I have a faster car than the rest of the field then I can keep up.

Yes, I agree that Diabolic could've won. That course is an easy one to drive a clean defensive line on, so passing is hard. There was a point where Diabolic was right on me. I knew it was just a matter of time before I slipped up and he got by me, but instead, I think someone got up on him and may have even touched him. He fell back. I'm not sure what happened.

Diabolic may have just been wanting to avoid finishing too high.

Rubbish, Diabolic would've wanted all the points he could get there to run away BTW, chuyler and wiifreak. Especially with DFR as the next track where he wont run off

Starting last was my undoing. I ran no practice and only hotlapped once per each of the 5 cars I tried. If I started higher..hanging with Dabneyd wouldnt have been a problem..but again about 10-12 laps in I decided to at least make my race compelling so I stopped and let the field go clear thinking I 'd pick people off in 1v1 duals rather than being stuck behind a larger group. I did want max points or at least 2500 not to say I would have gotten around Cujo...Im just more happy with 3rd than 2nd.

Off topic: Is it possible to completely hide a wireless network? What I mean is, when you have your wireless card, you can search for networks whether they're private or open. But, can you hide it, to where it will not show up when they search?

Basically, you don't know it's there unless you type in the name, and password, and join the network.

Any help?
