I ran across the whole set (lighter, candle, match, stove burner) on deviantART. I think the artist's name is leoplat. :)

Thanks :)

Wow, Integra, that's amust have! I usually hate weird colory things like that, but that one just has the right colors. I want it! Now, tell me again where you and dougie get all these great photos, like those bearings up top. I can never remember.

Thanks. I'll bookmark it this time. They've got some nice stuff, but that site could totally go for more car photography. Go take take some car pictures, people!

So what exactly is the point of these "3D" windows? Your desktop is even made "3D", but your real desktop is still there, just dark and inactive!?!?!???? The point is in Idaho, an I'm damn near Ohio. I don't get it. I can't even read the text in the windows. Point please!!! Why? Do they move all pretty or something? Do they do the riverdance on your screen? Do they follow the laws of physics or something, like that one system those guys came up with? You know the one I mean. Explain, pleeze.

The feature is called Flip-3D. It's basically a fancy (improved?) version of Windows' Alt+Tab function. You can flip through all your open applications (including the desktop - as you can see from Revolution's screenshot) in a 3D environment instead of the usual 2D. Also, since this is just an 'application switcher', being able to read the text on the windows isn't important.

For the record, I think the feature is useless, since it isn't really any more productive than its 2D counterpart, but I've already expressed my feelings about Flip-3D in the Vista thread. :)

Edit - Here it is in action:

Yeah, it sorta is useless, considering that Window still has the good old Alt+Tab switching hotkeys (now called Windows Flip, coincidentally). It just looks pretty. :)

Thanks dougie. I just tried the alt-tab thing--which I never use--and I can see how getting a preview of the window would help in making a selection. Like AOL explorer and the way it gives you thumbnails of each window, even "back" windows that were opened an hour ago. Overall, I like it, but having the desktop show up there seems goofy and unfinished.

Well, having the desktop there does give you an easy way to minimize all windows and go straight back there without having to go searching around for the little Show Desktop button in the quicklaunch (assuming you have it there of course).

No prob, keef. 👍

[...]and I can see how getting a preview of the window would help in making a selection.

Assuming that you're using Windows XP, you can also have previews! You can find it at Microsoft's PowerToys Site. It's called 'Alt-Tab Replacement'. It's not as pretty as Flip-3D, but it's an improvement.

Edit - Has anyone actually downloaded this? I've never used it myself, but I'd like to know how well it works.

Yes, actually. I just installed it and it works. It shows a whole thumbnail of a window. The only problem is that in order for a preview to be shown, the window has to be open. It will always show a bit of the title bar, though. I have a habit of just minimizing windows I'm not using, so that'll take some getting used to.
