In addition to the ‘fan appreciation gifts’ mentioned above, we wanted to share an overview of the types of DLC headed your way. Check back here every Wednesday to see what new DLC will be available on the PlayStation Store the next day…

One category of downloads will be, no surprise, SackBoy costumes. You’ve already seen a few of our pre-order announcements and partnerships with PlayStation Alumni, but this is only a snippet of available downloads to come. We’re hard at work to provide weekly downloads to keep the community fresh and active. Here are a few items we have in store for you down the line…

Seasonal & Limited Time Only Costumes - FREE
The “launch” SpaceSuit and Halloween mask is a perfect example of this. These types of items will be available for a short amount of time only so look for these around special events and holidays.

RARE SackBoy Costumes - $?.??
In time, we’re hoping to introduce very rare items that are both only available for a certain amount of time and extremely collectible. We’ve previously announced the such an item, the “RARE Mm T-shirt”, but in North America, we’re waiting for the right time to introduce into the PS Store. Stay tuned…

Basic SackBoy Costume Bundle - $2.99
At times, we’ll offer four basic costumes at a great price…to make things easier for the ‘must collect everything I see’ personalities

Premium SackBoy Costume Bundle - $5.99
Similar to the Basic SackBoy Costume Bundle, this premium version consists of four premium costumes for the price of three. All characters in premium bundles will revolve around a certain theme…more info to come in the near future.

Stay tuned in a few weeks when we introduce a few more types of LBP DLC that will not only enhance your SackBoy, but expand your Pop-it tool with more objects, materials, stickers, sounds, music and even gameplay enhancements to keep the community refreshed with more creative options.

Just a heads-up:

There are some free LBP skin downloads now available that work for all regions:
  • Sackboy w/"First Week" T-shirt
  • SackSpaceman
  • SackPumpkinhead
There is also a free SackMonkey download from the JP PSN store, but I believe it only works for the Japanese version of LBP. Although it may work for all regions as well. I can't say for sure as I have not tried it myself.

EDIT: treed :)

Haha, the spacesuit is cool. Rented the game last night with a friend. Can't believe how addicting this game is and I haven't even tried online yet.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So you're saying the game is quite tricky to get the hang of if you're not an experienced sixaxis user? I had thought that the 2 dimensional quality of the game-play might make it a little easier to play, plus the really cute & colorful graphics would appeal to younger/female players...

It would depend from person to person. I knwo of plenty of stories of girlfriends playing it as their first Playstation game ever without any problem, but at the same time my dad would say it has too many buttons. Of course, he thinks the Wii uses too many buttons for things like bowling.

This looks like a fun game, but is it a game for kids - compared to Ratchet & Clank for example?

Will my 11 year old (girl) enjoy it? Will my 6 year old (girl) be able to play it? Will my ?? year old spouse (girl) consider playing it?

What do you all think?

We have a 4yr old Daughter, 6yr old Son, and several nephews ranging from 7 to 16... all of which have played a lot of games on our PS3.

We got Ratchet & Clank: FToD for the kids, but only the older nephews really got into it.

As for LBP, I only picked it up yesterday, and the kids have been busy with school, soccer practice, piano lessons, and of course getting last minute adjustments to their costumes, so we likely wont get a chance to play around with it as a family until this weekend, but I'll let you know what they think.

I suspect, like many games, for young kids like ours, they get the most fun playing with their family and friends, so I suspect they will love LBP's multi-player coop mode... and is probably why they never really had much interest in Ractchet & Clank.

For instance, their favorite game series are the LEGO games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and now Batman). They love playing with friends, solving puzzles, and for the older kids and ourselves, we enjoy them for their humor just as much as anything else. 👍

The Simpsons Game is also a favorite for the kids.

Their other favorite game which the whole family enjoys is Hot Shots Golf: OOB. Now we all also enjoy playing golf, but I suspect even non-golfers would find this game very entertaining. 👍

The whole family also play a lot of Buzz! and SingStar.

As for driving games, while the older nephews liked the more realistic style driving games like, GT5P, F1:CE, and DiRT. Our kids not so much. Although they really like playing MotorStrom, Burnout Paradise, and MX vs ATV: Untamed.

As for downloadable games, there are lots that the kids have really enjoyed. Here are some ranked by what they have played the most:
  • Operation Creature Feature
  • Calling All Cars!
  • Super Rub 'a' Dub
  • Pain
  • Elefunk
  • Lemmings
  • Trials of Topoq
  • flOw
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD
  • Blast Factor

Bottom line, I have been very pleasantly surprised by the wide variety and quality of a lot of the games that appeal to our whole extended family, instead of the usual "kids games" that only appeal to kids. 👍

I just caught that bit... however, the Hong Kong PSN store has them available right now, and it clearly says that all three skins work for the English, Chinese, and Korean versions of LBP. Now by English, that may mean the UK, but then again, they may also work just fine for us Yanks as well. :)

ive downlaoded the 3 skins that are on the JPN PSN and they dont work with the american copies of LBP , even if i sign into my JPN account , it still doesnt work

looks like we're gona have too wait a little till we get them

I said the Hong Kong store, not the Japanese. Unlike the Japanese store, the HK store clearly mentions they work for multiple regions. You may want to try downloading them from there instead.

Thanks DN! 👍

I bought Ratchet & Clank TOD a while ago hoping that my 11 year old would enjoy it, & she did play for a while & my 6 year old liked to watch, but overall it was a bit "intense" for them. I'm thinking LBP might be a little more gentle, quirky & fun. As you're suggesting, it could be that some of the simpler, downloadable PSN games would be the best bet for the kids, but after you try out LBP perhaps you could let me know what you think...

I will try them tonight to see if they work. I was just afraid it would merge with my other DLC data and if it didn't work then I would have to delete and redownload Nariko.

I would like to get them now, however. A halloween costume on Novermber 6th seems a tad silly.

Did it create any issues, like installing into your other game data?

kk , tought it was the same , so i gotta make a HK account>? or is there a way too access it from the JPN account
You need a separate Hong Kong account. The Hong Kong store is mostly the same as the Japanese store with a few minor differences, but most of their stuff have English versions. And it is much easier to navigate the store as it is in English.

Can I download this content now and save it for later (havent bought the game yet)...? Seeing as some of its for a limited time.

Robin
I have done that in the past. My Nariko outfit actually saved in a separate file from the main game data.

The costumes are NOT available to the US store, right? I'll wait...

Anyway, I published a level. It's title is "Junk" Go look it up and play it. So you can see my.. err.. artistic abilities.. ;?

We experienced the same with our kids... even SuperStardust HD can quickly get too intense for the young ones.

I'm thinking LBP might be a little more gentle, quirky & fun. As you're suggesting, it could be that some of the simpler, downloadable PSN games would be the best bet for the kids, but after you try out LBP perhaps you could let me know what you think...

Well, I thought we wouldn't get a chance to play it until this weekend, but last night (Friday), the kids had finished their reading and were ready for bed early, so we decided to go ahead and open up LBP, and try it out for 30 min or so... well let me tell you... as nick09 so subtly put it... this game is in deed crack stuffed on a disc!

What an amazingly fun game!

All of us (wife, and kids included) were completely hooked within minutes. Everyone had a blast creating our own sack characters, and messing around with all the emotion controls and body and hand movement controls.

We completely lost touch with time and before you know it, it was already an hour past the kid’s bedtime, and no one wanted to stop! :D

I knew from the early video trailers I was going to really like this game... but it has so far far exceeded my expectations, and is clearly going to be my family’s favorite game to play for quite some time.

So you're saying the game is quite tricky to get the hang of if you're not an experienced sixaxis user?
Unlike some, I don't mind SIXAXIS motion control in games depending on what it is used for, and how well it's implemented by the developers of the games, but as far as LBP goes it's sort of a mute point. LBP use of the SIXAXIS motion control is limited to just making entertaining body movements (toggles between your head and hip movements) and is completely unnecessary as far as actual gameplay is concerned, so don't let that scare you. :)

I had thought that the 2 dimensional quality of the game-play might make it a little easier to play, plus the really cute & colorful graphics would appeal to younger/female players...
There are 3 levels of gameplay "depth" while traversing through levels, and while it took my wife and I some time to be able to control what level of depth we wanted our sackboys to move to and from, but oddly enough our 6yr son was like a fish in water, and was so good at controlling his sackboy that in coop mode he would get so far ahead of us that we kept getting regenerated to an entry door closest to him. :D

Now having gone through all of the chapters in the first story, "The Gardens", both my wife and I can keep up with him fairly well. Our 4yr old daughter only has trouble timing her leaps and grabs for the parts where you have to swing through parts of the levels... but this is where the coop of LBP becomes even more entertaining. What we do is we all make the jump and grab, then swing closer to the edge, making it much easier for her to jump and grab. In fact, she doesn't even have to grab the swing, it also lets her grab the feet of one of our sackboys, and then we swing her to safety. 👍

I will try them tonight to see if they work. I was just afraid it would merge with my other DLC data and if it didn't work then I would have to delete and redownload Nariko.
Good news and bad news.

Good News:
Like the Nariko costume set, when I downloaded the Kratos/Medusa/Minotaur costume combo set it created it's own LBP file in the Game data folder. Then I went ahead and downloaded the ones from the HK store as well as the SackMonkey from the JP store, and they also created their own files in the Game Data folder... so no worries about them effecting previous files. 👍

Bad News:
They don't work. I even tried playing using both my HK and JP PSN ID's, but like most other regional content, they require the game version to be from that specific region.

Now it's still quite possible that those from the UK and Europe might be able to use them. I know when playing online I ran into several players who were using the SackSpaceman and SackMonkey. I sent them messages asking where they got the skins, but no one has replied yet... possibly due to a lack of understanding English? :)

I would like to get them now, however. A halloween costume on Novermber 6th seems a tad silly.
I quite agree. Unfortunately the same thing happened with the Halloween car skins for MotorStorm. They were released in the UK before Halloween, but for some strange reason they didn't make it to the US PSN store until well into November... and like these LBP costumes, the MotorStorm skins and add-ons were also region locked. :ouch:

Can I download this content now and save it for later (havent bought the game yet)...? Seeing as some of its for a limited time.
You can definitely download them. What I do not know is whether or not an add-on which is available only for a limited time, may not work if you do not actually activate the game before that time ends. I suspect in most cases it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again for the detailed reply DN. 👍

Sounds like I will buy this game for my 11 year-olds birthday & hope she (& just possibly - MY WIFE!!!! - will enjoy it.

Tried to join a couple friends games last night but never got connected. Any one else successfully play multi-player online?

The God of War Level is very nice with a little sick humor straight from God Of War. I love this game.
I'll have to give that a try. I've been enjoying some of the Sasuke (Ninja Warrior) inspired community levels. It's a fun warm up for the upcoming broadcast of the 21st Event on G4 in a couple weeks! Some of them (in LBP) are really quite impressive. 👍

I just made a Dr. Manhattan Sackboy. :)
Does he look like Billy Cudrup? ;)

It's astonishing to me the depth at which one can go in regards to customizing your SackPersons. I was playing online with someone who had a dead on look-a-like of Heath Ledger's "The Joker". It was so convincing that I immediately thought it must be among the many hidden costume prizes, but he said he made it himself following a video instruction on how to do it that was on GameTrailers.

BTW: when playing online with others it definitely pays to use a headset/mic, as the Popit text menu takes too long except for those using keyboards and are fast typers.

Sure enough, after we finished our game, I opened up the PS3 web browser, did a Google search for Joker SackBoy,and the first hit was a link to that instructional video on GameTrailers:
He also posted the same video on YouTube. In addition, I also found a video someone posted on YouTube of their own Joker Sackboy on YouTube.

This game surprises me more every day I play it and learn more about all the different things one can do in LBP. 👍

Tried to join a couple friends games last night but never got connected. Any one else successfully play multi-player online?
Most of the time I have no trouble, but occasionally I get a message someone is trying to join me, but after a while I'll get a message from them saying it isn't letting them join... then I remember I have to be in sight of an entry door for them to enter the game. Also, if you go past a "Do Not Enter Game" sign (looks like a stop light with a cross), then no one can enter into the level you are currently playing. At this point your options are to finish the level, restart the level, or go back to your pod and invite them to join you.

Next time we are both online, I'll invite you or vice versa, and if their are any issues I'll try and help figure out what is going wrong. 👍

I have to say, of all the online games I've played, I really like the options and interface that LBP offers. Not only do you have full access to your entire PSN friend's list without having to go to the XMB, but it also tells you who is currently playing LBP, where they are inside LBP (what level they are playing, in their pod, or busy creating). However, that just scratches the surface.

If you select a friend it then opens up their LBP profile. Page 1 shows how many times they have been Hearted, how many levels they have published, and shows those published levels on the LBP globe. Page 2 shows the Levels they have Hearted, and Page 3 shows the Creators they have Hearted.

But wait, there's still more...

If you press the square button when you are looking at that persons LBP profile, it will bring up even more info and options.

The first page gives you the option to heart or un-heart that player as well find more levels by that player. It also shows how many times you have ever played with them, how many times you have created levels with them, and how many times you have shared LBP objects and LBP photos with them.

But wait, there's still more...

The second page lists all the levels they have hearted, and gives you a quick link to each of those levels.

The third page lists all the creators they have hearted, and gives you a quick link to each of their LBP profiles.

But wait, there's even more...

If you highlight one of their levels they have published and press the square button you get even more info.

The first page show how many times this level has been hearted as well as how many people have played it. In addition it gives you options to play the level online with others or on your own. It also gives you the option to heart or un-heart that level, as well as find levels that are similar (based on the level tags used and which tags have been used the most for that level by those that have played it), and again you can also find more by that player.

But wait there's still more...

The second page tells you how many Goodies and Prizes you have won from that level.

The third page shows all the tags that have been given to that level, both by the creator and those that have played it. BTW: Each tag is a link to a quick search for the most popular levels with that tag.

But wait, there's still bloody more...

The fourth page is the high score page, and by pressing square each time you can cycle through the following:
  • Highest Scores (1 Player)
  • Friend Scores (1 Player)
  • Highest Scores (2 Player)
  • Friend Scores (2 Player)
  • Highest Scores (3 Player)
  • Friend Scores (3 Player)
  • Highest Scores (4 Player)
  • Friend Scores (4 Player)
In addition, each player's name among the rankings is a link to their LBP profile. This is a great way to meet friends of friends, and people who like similar levels, and players of similar skill levels. 👍

But wait, there's still more...

The fifth page shows all the comments that have been left from those that have played it, and links to the LBP profiles of the players that left messages, and of course the option to leave a message as well.

Finally, the sixth and last page shows you all the goodies & prizes you have earned from that level or what is still left to get.

Combine all this, with an easy invite and or join system, terrific audio and text chat, photos, and object sharing options, as well and immensely entertaining and clever co-op in-game tasks, that for my money, LBP has without question the best overall online gaming experience.

Yeah, I just realized that you can put stickers on sackboy himself. When I was playing with FK I had a Manhattan/Rorschach thing going on, but now that I can use stickers I can make seperate costumes.

@Digital-Nitrate:

I never knew...... I should probably get some more earth time with this game before I spread my noob'ness, but yeah, I'll be sure to look for you. 👍

Anyway, I published a level. It's title is "Junk" Go look it up and play it. So you can see my.. err.. artistic abilities.. ;?
Do I still hold the high score? I saw you trying to beat it yesterday.

Just wait until it is 1:00 AM on a work night and you realize you have to get up in five hours.

It is even worse when you attempt to create a level.

Bad News:
They don't work. I even tried playing using both my HK and JP PSN ID's, but like most other regional content, they require the game version to be from that specific region.
Glad I didn't try yet.

I sent them messages asking where they got the skins, but no one has replied yet... possibly due to a lack of understanding English? :)
Of the stories I have heard of people doing this and getting a response, they were all Japanese players.

The God of War Level is very nice with a little sick humor straight from God Of War. I love this game.
That level is probably the best user-created level I have seen to date.

Tried to join a couple friends games last night but never got connected. Any one else successfully play multi-player online?
I ran into this last night. It took Omnis and I about five tries to get connected. Then, while we were playing you and LaBounti both asked to join and I said allow, but I never saw you guys. We could have used the help as we kept blowing ourselves up.

It's astonishing to me the depth at which one can go in regards to customizing your SackPersons. I was playing online with someone who had a dead on look-a-like of Heath Ledger's "The Joker". WAIT!!!!! The stickers can get that detailed on Sackboy? Oh, that's it. Between this and the PS3 Eye I am going to have some awesome looking Sackboys. Or I may get too lazy. either way.

So, now we can do stickers. I wish I could put objects on Sackboy so I could really go all out. What about the "decoration" stickers?

BTW: when playing online with others it definitely pays to use a headset/mic, as the Popit text menu takes too long except for those using keyboards and are fast typers.
Oh yeah. Omnis and I learned that last night. After a long time of hand gestures he put on his headset. If I had known he had a headset I would have had mine on as well. I quickly grabbed mine and instead of dying we managed to figure it all out.

Quick note though: Without push-to-talk I highly recommend anyone with kids in the room playing with myself let me know in advance or keep my audio to your headset only. Video games can bring out the worst in my language. I don't want to offend anyone because I didn't realize they had kids who could hear me.

I have to say, of all the online games I've played, I really like the options and interface that LBP offers. I would like a way to automatically not allow invites to even be sent. I have yet to be in a situation where I wanted to refuse one, but I know that when I am going through looking to get my 100% items I won't be wanting to be interrupted.

Yeah, I just realized that you can put stickers on sackboy himself. When I was playing with FK I had a Manhattan/Rorschach thing going on, but now that I can use stickers I can make seperate costumes.
Where did you get that awesome skin? I was sporting my pirate/ninja.

After playing with Omnis last night I think I would definitely like to play through the entire story mode with others.

Also, I was in Wal*Mart the other day and saw the Game Guide. It is 300 pages. I picked it up trying to figure out why it was bigger than any other I had ever seen. Sure enough, it had the entire story mode guide, but then the second half was what appeared to be an in-depth level creation guide. Has anyone gotten this? Is it worth it? As my main target goal is level creation I would love to get this and really attempt to fine tune my skills.

A news release from media molicule has stated theres a patch due..........to enable you to import images into LBP instead of the usual camera method.......when?.....BEFORE christmas!
