So far how many hours have been spent on creating that level?
Well, it was built in the beta, so it has been a while. If I subtract the learning phase a tutorial stuff, as well as the stumbling through stupid mistakes (hint: when you glue something to the ground, don't pick it up without detaching first), I would say that I spent about 5 hours in the initial build. Then I spent about an hour after the full version came out reworking the alligators, that includes painting them green. So, all told perhaps six hours. I could do it even quicker now that I know what I am doing.

Now, if you take in my whole learning process, not counting tutorials, then it was closer to ten hours. I started at 9:30 PM one night and finished at 4:00 AM.

The thing is I initially thought I wasn't supposed to go on the top, I thought the whole level was on the bottom.
Never played the original Pitfall, I take it?

I just have one question though, where can I unlock the Russian uniform? I so want my little dude to wear that.
I know Dead Poetic has it. I think you get it in the final world. Digital Nitrate has a thread discussing where to find things, although it doesn't seem he has gotten past Story #3, The Wedding.

As far as I know I didn't but everything in my NES era is kind of blurry in my memory so I guess that must be my problem:ouch:.
NES era? I was playing Pitfall when NES was just a thought.

I wish I could make LBP screenshots within the game.

Before I returned my rental of the game I remember playing with another character who wasn't a sackboy. He was a two dimensional drawing. He was flat character and moved like he was made of paper. Anyone know what the deal is on that? It looked cool.

In 1982 I wasn't even a thought.

I can remember Pitfall on the Atari 2600. Yeah baby, yeah! I think the original Joystick needs to make a comeback. Let's get back to that single orange button! ;)

My only criticism of this game is that it really demands a lot from players to keep up the user generated levels. I heard that the levels they provide only takes about 6 to 8 hours.

Had a fun session with Digital-Nitrate without any connection issues.
 I had fun, thanks!

I thought I was a decent prize bubble hunter, but Pako had me beat! He was finding them in some very hard to get to areas of "The Wedding" levels. 👍

One thing I have noticed is that everyone who puts their level out and has you win objects doesn't like to share beyond that. They are all locked. You can't copy another level over and you can't reshare their objects.

That's the default setting when you create a level. I'm sure as more and more people get into creating levels, and don't mind sharing what they have created so others can modify it to their liking, we will see a lot more levels and objects that are unlocked and free to copy and use in your own levels.

I know I have already collected several objects from others, like the mega tank and Batman's Tumbler, so they are out there if you keep looking for them. In the mean time, I went ahead and sent copies of the Tumbler to those on my friend's list. In addition, anyone who visits my son's test level, can get a copy of both the tank and the Tumbler to use in their own levels. 👍

An entire section of my DVD case is devoted to The Three Stooges. And I think I just got a new level idea....

:D

Theres going to be a co-op creation mode?? That would definitely be awesome.

Offline co-op creation is already available. That's how I helped my son get started with his level.

It's the online co-op creation mode that isn't currently available. When it does, it will allow you to invite your friends to the levels you created, but instead of play mode, you can do it in edit mode. This will allow them to help you build or modify your levels. You can also use this option to give a full tour of your level design using the "hover" mode. 👍

(did I fail to mention how awesome this game is yet?) ;)

In regards to the connection issue, I would be curious where everyone is located. It would be nice to see what everyone's ping is to get an idea min/max for a stable gaming experience.

I'm in NW Montana, so certainly West Coast and Mid-West connections would have a lower ping and certainly less hops in most cases. Not sure what the game developers can do to improve this.... I don't know anyone locally to try some 4 player coop. Wonder if it's any better.

I'm in Austin, Texas. However, I've played 4-player online in LBP with two of the players being from *Japan. I wasn't hosting, but we didn't experience any lag.

*I knew this as they had the SackSpaceman and Sack Monkey costume sets on - and I checked their profile in the XMB under Players Met menu, and they both were listed as being in Japan.

I know Dead Poetic has it. I think you get it in the final world. Digital Nitrate has a thread discussing where to find things, although it doesn't seem he has gotten past Story #3, The Wedding.

And any input and submissions would be very welcome! :)

NES era? I was playing Pitfall when NES was just a thought.

There are some AMAZINGLY detailed LBP levels that are recreations of famous 8-bit video games. Obviously the Super Mario Bros. one is the most popular. :)

I wish I could make LBP screenshots within the game.

You sort of can. In fact I took a screen shot of Pako and I (just after we had finally gotten through a part of the level that was kicking out collective butts... by using the photo tool in my Stickers & Decorations PopIt menus... then I used that photo and tagged a wall in the level with it like a gangster! :D

It even lets you frame and crop it the way you like. The downside, which is what I'm sure you are referring to and what I hope they will add in an update, is the ability to copy those screen shots to your photo folders on your PS3.

Currently the screenshots we take in LBP remain as stickers in your PopIt menu, which you can then show them to people while playing LBP, or stick them on things.

It does allow you to send those screenshots to people on your friends list. In fact I sent you some screenshots I took of my Minotaur costume with the butterfly on his nose, as well as my Halloween costume with all the eye springs on it. When sending someone these "LittleBigPlanet Gifts", I believe it is supposed to put them in your appropriate goodies bag/PopIt menu, so you can not only see them, but use them yourself as well. 👍

6 to 8 hours????

I don't think that's at all possible! Even if you had already pent 100 hours perfecting your technique and memorizing the fastest possible route through every level, there are still 25 different story levels in this game! Not to mention the fact that by only going the fastest route, you would skip over more than 50% of the content in each of thsoe 25 levels. Then there are the 25 mini levels which add even more gameplay value.

Besides, the countless numbers of hours fun one can have exploring the multiple main story levels, the true beauty of LBP, is the endless opportunities for gameplay in and among the thousands of unique community levels as well as the pure sandbox joy one can experience when they create their own levels.

.... Seriously, who ever said that is just totally way off the mark.

Probably the same Xbot fanboys who have been screwing around with Metacritic's User rating for LittleBigPlanet, which in return got PS3 fanboys to mess with Gears of War 2's user rating... some kids need to get outside more and learn how to get along with others!

Speaking of Metacritic and other collective game review sites like GameRankings, and the love this game is getting, last I checked, based on published game reviews, LittleBigPlanet is the highest rated game of all time, or darn close to it... and deservedly so in my opinion. 👍

That was great! I haven't laughed so hard trying to jump from one thingy to another in a long time... 👍

I hope people do because I have wanted to see how they pulled it off, like the complete Gradius level.

I gave you the Nariko info in there.

Omnis, Dead Poetic, and myself were waiting for a fourth person to help us in The Frozen Tundra and since we couldn't pass the no entry sign we started stickering everything. Omnis was even waiting with a sticker over the door to put on the next person to come in.

Hopefully, they will patch in the XMB thing that was added in the last firmware.

Yeah, but if you check your Friends List messages first it looks like you sent me an attachment that I can't open. Other games include instructions on how and where to open it properly. It took me a second, but it was confusing.

Totally possible. Heavenly Sword and MGS4 are also relatively short if you just rush through doing as little as possible to get to the end.

The difference, however, between LBP and most other games is that being a completionist in LBP gives you something to extend gameplay beyond just giving you more in a replay (MGS4-style) or extra features (Heavenly Sword-style). Getting 100% completion in LBP will allow you to have a much more versatile experience in the creation mode. But some people are not creators, just players. For them it is easily a 6-8 hour story mode. For me it is many, many, many more hours of hunting down every last thing.

But MM has already said that they are going to have more story levels in DLC.

the true beauty of LBP, is the endless opportunities for gameplay in and among the thousands of unique community levels as well as the pure sandbox joy one can experience when they create their own levels.
But this is not a part of the story mode, and as Dead Poetic was saying, outside of story mode this game is user reliant for future enjoyment beyond the story.

No, just not creative.

Do you guys mind if I add you to my friends list so I can play some of your created levels? I don't have the patient to sit down and make a level, but some of the stuff I've seen thus far is quite impressive. I've played Foolkiller's pitfall level and thought it was cool, although it was a co-op with Kate and that level isn't very co-op friendly.

Which is why I put a warning in the description saying that it is best in single-player mode.

Don't worry, I have three ideas written on note pad and at least two of them will work well in multiplayer.

Thanks! I was surprised there wasn't more to it than just Nariko's outfit. :indiff:

I was curious about that. So how did you figure it out? Did it just automatically update your game save file to include the screenshots and Batman's Tumbler fo you to use in the game?

If so, I'll be sure next time I send someone LittleBigPlanet gifts to identify exactly what it is and where in their PopIt menu they can find them.

Totally possible. Heavenly Sword and MGS4 are also relatively short if you just rush through doing as little as possible to get to the end.

But this assumes they would know all the short cuts and have the skills already in place to finish it that quickly. Like I said, maybe after they have already familiarized themselves with the game could they successfully do a quick 6-8 hour run, but then it isn’t a 6-8 hour game, they have to also include all the time they spent playing it before they could do it in such a fast way.

I would likely find that anyone making such blanket statements suggesting LBP main story levels are only 6-8 hours long, while at the same time making no mention of how many hours it took playing the game in order to make such a fast run through are either extremely narrow minded, or more likely just desperately looking for a flaw, and like a politician, pulling numbers out of there you know where and ignoring all related facts that would otherwise prove them wrong, or at the very least expose their narrow mindedness. :ouch:

For them it is easily a 6-8 hour story mode. For me it is many, many, many more hours of hunting down every last thing.

Except by that logic, they could spend hundreds if not thousands of hours playing different community levels without ever having created a level themselves... and frankly, there are some community levels that are arguably better and more entertaining than the main story levels... and the game has only been out to the general public for a week!

But this is not a part of the story mode, and as Dead Poetic was saying, outside of story mode this game is user reliant for future enjoyment beyond the story.

Outside the story levels, you also have the mini levels, DLC (non user reliant), but regardless of all that, it sounded like being user reliant for future enjoyment is a bad thing. Unlike most games, you have no other options than the story and hopefully some occasional DLC at best. The fact that the gameplay can be extended to an infinite amount of variety and time based on either your own creativity or that of the community, or both, is what helps sets this game so far apart from anything else out there.

However, if someone has absolutely no interest in playing any of the amazing community levels, has no interest in creating their own, has no interest in exploring all the different areas within the story levels, no interest in the mini levels, and is going to be unhappy if after spends many hours familiarizing themselves with the fastest route possible, and mastering the skills to get it done in 6-8 hours, then by all means they should probably pass on LBP.

Although if I ever met someone who was like that, I would be very curious to know what games they like, and how do those games offer them more extended gameplay than LBP. :odd:

Well, when I exited Folding@Home it said I have a new message. So I checked my message list and I saw those and could read your message but couldn't do anything to it. Then when I went into the game and checked LBP Messages under the Start menu it showed those messages and allowed me to aces the game data. After it copied it over it gave me a message saying where that particular item could be found. It's the thinking to go into the LBP Messages menu that is the trick.

it sounded like being user reliant for future enjoyment is a bad thing.
Depends on the user. So far though I am hopeful for this. For me this all around awesome, but some people play through the single-player stuff as quick as possible and then trade it in with every game.

Exactly, this game is not for those kinds of people, and I think that some of them are the most vocal whiners, based on the various comments on gaming blogs that I have seen.

Although if I ever met someone who was like that, I would be very curious to know what games they like, and how do those games offer them more extended gameplay than LBP. :odd:
Until Warhawk I almost never played online (unless you count my early college Warcraft 2 LAN battles) and I was very critical of games that did not have a lot of gameplay. I still have a dark spot in my heart for Halo 2 gimping the story mode to increase the online. But any game that could not entertain me in single-player for more than 20 hours used to get an immediate pass by me.

Obviously with this generation I have changed.

EDIT:
Have I responded positively? I'll check when I get home.... 👍
You hadn't as of last night, but I just sent it last night too.

Well that will teach me not to read the description. Anyways, I'll be looking forward to what you come up with next 👍.

So how are you guys doing on item completion? so far I've got 100% for the Gardens and Savannah, the wedding I still haven't finished the levels themselves so I still dont go for the items.

Got mine this morning and have just spent two hours that I should have been work on it.

I was part of the Beta and have missed this game far more than I thought I would, glad to have it back and I've already had a good play around on DN's levels.

Mine should be at my door any minute now, can't wait... loved the beta :)

I just added two more ideas to my list. I completed the Story mode last night (more on that below) so I should be focusing more on create. First is to tweak my current level until I am happy with it, then start on some of these other ideas that I have.

I'm not at 100% completion, but I wanted to save that for helping break up any frustrations I may run across in level creation.

I have 100% in The Gardens but not any others. Omnis and I have been trying to get 4 people together to get the 4-player stuff in The Frozen Tundra, and there is also one in the third The Wilderness level.

Which reminds me, Omnis, I found where that 2-player section was in The Bunker last night that I was trying to find. We should try that again.

I am happy to see that our European bretheren can join us in all the fun now.

And now, I have for your viewing pleasure the prize for acing (not dying) the final boss fight. (Spoilers be here) I'll use a thumbnail so that those who do not wish to see it can scroll on past.

But first, I have to give credit to Omnis for helping me past The Bunker level, which was kicking my butt. Oddly, after watching him go through it once I was then able to beat it.

Anyway, the coolest LBP prize evah!!!!!

It is a costume item called Yellow Head and makes you two-dimensional.

I managed to get on the servers early this morning, even managed a few 4 player on-line runs (all very lag free as well); had some lunch and did a bit of work then this afternoon I've not been able to get on the servers at all (booo).

However the single player is fun enough as it is, so I will work my way through that for now.

Right so theres a few having problems....I'll go unplug the soldering iorn and put my router back together then LOL
