That is the trickiest part. There is one platform that is high enough off the floor that you can jump on to it when running on the top. Then as the wheel turns you have to time your jumps just right to land on the side and then the top as it comes around.

I have only pulled it off once, but I die much less in getting to this point than if I do it the normal way.

I'm headed off to Houston right now, but if you are available later tonight, I'll try and log in and maybe we can do that level in co-op, but I'll pop my sackboy out so as just to watch, and see how the heck this is done. It sounds cool. 👍

I'll be happy to show you my teqnique as well for acing the "Wheel of Death". :nervous:

I don't know if I will be on. And even if I am, as I said, I have only pulled it off once.

If we can't meet up tonight we will get a chance later.

I woudl almost be willing to bet that there is something on You Tube.

Ok so, I'm gonna let you guys swing me into buying this one. I decided ya know what? The reason I don't like platformers is because I've never really played with them outside the main aims. I think LBP allows me to try to make some things although it sounds difficult to make something truly great.

I had the change of heart after spending hours with a friend on Banjo Kazooie demo for X360, making completely ridiculous non-functional vehicles and finding myself in stitches.

Not sure when I'll buy it yet, soon hopefully.

D-N - it's not the dying that's the problem. It's that "it's too hard!" (tears, wobbly lip).

Though she absolutely must play it every night... *shrug*

I find playing Online for Little Big Planet is ahrd and i have a gorilla outfit and it goes well with my black out fit!! Can you buy stickers on the Playstatiion store??

No, stickers are only found in-game or you can make custom ones using the PlayStation Eye. There has been talk of more developer levels coming in future DLC, so those will likely have more stickers in them too.

I started playing with the camera angle tool in my current level and found that the one place where I was afraid multiple players would have issues with someone getting left behind was easily fixed by placing a camera to zoom out and keep the entire section in frame until you get past it.

And Famine, I have run across the "This object is getting too complicated" message. Apparently a fully functional volcano can't have a lot added to it.

Cameras do seem to be a real problem even with the supplied levels. It's very difficult even with 2 people, and we often play with 3 or 4. Frankly it's a PITA some times.

We're currently stuck on the wheel wall in the Ninja Castle. After several hours I think one of us has made it to the top once, and promptly died thereafter.

We're all terrible at the tiny-platform-to-tiny-platform jumps: enough lateral movement to clear the gap inevitably carries you right off the landing platform, and backpedaling just means you fall off the near side rather than the far side.

My initial thought was to have a special switch that required two players to make something new appear so that multiple players wouldn't be getting spaced out too much, but it will make you unable to get the bubbles I placed in the normal gameplay area. After playing with the camera angle tool I think it would do the job. I'll have to test it though. After my last level seemed to really only work well in single player I wanted to make sure that this would be accessible to multiple players.

I was very surprised at the flexibility of the camera angle tool. You can have it look in from multiple angles and have it zoom in and out. It also has a sensitivity switch for tracking the player movement as opposed to staying in a static position.

You do have to be careful with your trigger zone though. My initial setup had it only turn off when you had one foot hanging off the last platform, and the angle did not allow you to see the next one. So, I had to pull it in a bit.

That was a bit annoying. Just remember that if one person does make it everyone else can kill themselves and they will show back up at the next checkpoint.

Tiny jumps. Just tap the button. The jumping is the main physics annoyance, so it is tricky. Although if you are just going horizontally over multiple jumps I found that it is easier to not stop than it is to jump, stop, jump again. Let that extra momentum, that would kill you, carry you through your next jump.

Wrath of the Volcano God has gone live.

Give it a play. Heart it if you like it and leave notes in the comments section about any issues you found.

And as promised, here is my behind-the-scenes look at what went into it.

First, I had a bit of inspiration. While trying to make some custom stickers for my first level, Jungle Pits, I looked up and saw this guy standing in the background of my shot. I immediately thought that he would make a good boss.

So, then while at work I had been keeping a list of level ideas and added it to the list. Then I began doing some sketches for the level and the boss fight.
At top is the idea list. On the bottom left is my level sketch and on the bottom right is my boss fight sketch with enemy sketches in the corner.

From this point it came time to start making things and working on the concepts, especially of a boss. I have a specific level that I call Testing Area. It is merely a lab, of sorts, where I work on ideas. As you can see in the video, some work and some don't.

Once I had my stuff made, I then had to build my level. I had to split this into two videos because of You Tube's limits. It is just a fly over and I highlight the settings on some of my tools and show how some of the stuff works.

Part 1

Part 2

And now the (2 part) video of a near-perfect run through.

Part 1

Part 2

So, there it is. Play it and enjoy it. Ask me questions about how I got certain things to work if you want. Also, if you play through my level every object I had to create in order to make it is available in the level, including my original volcano concept from my Testing Area video. I would have included the final volcano, but by the time the level was complete and it was in its final stages it was glued to the floor, and thus 90% of the level.

And while I was at it I made a video showing me go through all of my saved costumes.

I beat you to it... saw it was available last night... and had to knock you off the top of the leaderboard. :D

I used my SackHellBoy... as it seemed appropriate.

Great level FK.

This shall have to be remedied.

Also, I know some people were curious: there are now Sackboy plushies available from Play-Asia.

SackBoy plushies have been the object of desire for LittleBigPlanet fans for a very long time now; however, such a prized possession has yet to be made commercially available -- until now, that is. Japan is getting the official SackBoy squeeze toys this month and they're already available for purchase off Play-Asia.

Currently, the online retailer carries four versions of SackBoy: Normal, Pirate, Soldier and Sunflower. They're the 4" dolls we've reported on before, and they're actually cheaper than we thought at the price of $9.90. Import them today, or just wait for those North American plushies that we know are coming.

Cool, thanks for posting the SackBoy plus link. I will more then likely be ordering Kate one.

Just an interesting snippet of information:

I was listening to the C.B.C. radio (as Foolkiller & his crowd probably know, that's Canada's artsy-fartsy pinko national public broadcasting network ;)) this morning. On their hip, morning cultural show, they had a run down of the top 10 video games of 2008. Topping the list (which included, of course, MGS4 & GTA IV, and Spore) was the keulest game of 2008:

Little Big Planet.

The first Post-Modern, deconstructed video game - a game about gaming. :)

Well, it was the second-highest rated game of the year.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/27/meta-metareview-the-best-reviewed-games-of-2008/

Highest was GTA IV and LBP tied with Bioshock (PS3 version) and World of Goo. MGS4 came in a close third.

Anyway, I have begun to plan my next level. I actually have a couple of ideas that will both act as mini games with Christmas themes. And before anyone asks, it will be Santa based, not birth-of-Christ based.

Also, I have a request for anyone who enjoys playing LBP and wants to encourage better user-created content.

I am tired of "7 Trophies, Please Heart" levels all over the front page. It is becoming hard to find the good levels, despite tons being out there.

This is actually a two-part request: If you have hearted any of these levels, please unheart them. Quit drawing attention to them. They are spam created by trophy whores hunters. They both, defeat the purpose of the game and of trophies. And if they don't have their trophies by now then something is wrong.

Second, when you go to play cool levels go to a page number above 10-15. New levels are popping up in the 20+ page count and then may drift down to the front pages if they get some moderate plays. I have begun doing this and I am starting to find levels that are extremely good, have a story, and appear to have been well designed. The problem is they have been out for weeks and only gotten 10 plays. These guys are the ones that are working toward the true spirit of the game, yet they won't be getting their gold trophy any time soon because the crap trophy hunting levels are all up front.

Dig deep, find the good levels, heart them, leave comments, and hopefully more people will find them. Just remember, when you heart a level it puts it on your profile for others to see and play. I often check my friends' hearted levels to see if there is anything that I haven't played yet.

 Sorry, but that sounded so kinky.

Hey look, someone that doesn't work for Media Molecule figured out a way to find levels more easily.

http://www.sackbook.com/

You can even just look at new levels.

Of course, now this means that I will be watching my level stats.

And looking at my level I see it was tagged rubbish, but no comments! Honestly, why is it rubbish? What can I do to improve it?

LBP is at the top of my list and most people I know who have played it feel the same way, so I'm not surprised. 👍

I am surprised though to see that the PS3 had the most games with an average rating of 85% or more - besting both PC and 360 games. I'm not surprised that the Wii had the fewest... by a wide margin.

I'll have to save that article though as it will be useful to use as a helpful guide to find some decent game recommendations. 👍

Sounds great. I can already imagine some clever Grinch boss fights. :)

That's a great idea.

The reason I started a thread specifically for fellow GTP members to post recommended community levels is to also promote high quality levels.

 Sorry, but that sounded so kinky.
Get your mind out of the gutter! ;)

Wow! Awesome find... and for the life of me, I have no idea how he was able to get the LBP level data... amazing. Sony and or MediaMolecule should hire this guy!

I wouldn't let that get under your skin. Just as there are trolls in forums, there are plenty of trolls in online gaming. The more people who play your level and and tag it, those neagative tags will go away, as they are based on which tags players gave the most for that level.

Now what should get under your skin is that you are still not on top of the leaderboard. :sly:

Just out of curiousity, does anyone else find the Tweak menu a bit patchy?

We've noticed that if you place an object AND Tweak it, it forgets the settings, but it you place the object and then use your Popit cursor to Tweak it, it does what you ask.

Because when you place an object you still have the ghost image of another attached to your popit tool so you can place multiples. If you don't go back to the bare popit tool then you are actually tweaking the ghost tool before you place it.

So, your options are:
  1. Before placing the one you intend to place tweak it
  2. Place the tool and continue to hold the X button to immediately go into its tweak menu
  3. Place it and back out to the bare popit tool and hit Square to bring up the tweak menu.

Personally, it just works better for me if I place my tools and then use the bare popit tool, as if I have multiples of one tool I need them adjusted to each other, either by syncing or purposely off-sync. It is easier to jump back and forth to check my settings than it is to write them all down from the first one and use it as my base. And in the case of my Volcano God boss, I had to sync his emitter to his arm movement, which meant I had to jump between two separate tools.

Get your mind out of the gutter! ;)

That's what happens when you're stuck in a library for 3 and a half hours.

Anyway, FK, that's an amazing level. I'm booting up the game just to play it right now.

Wrath of the Volcano God

FYI a little bug which stopped me from completing this level. I killed the boss by falling on his head while holding the idol. When he died the key was on the right-hand side of the idol, and so it was impossible to get the key into the hole because you couldn’t get it past the idol.

Otherwise it was pretty damn cool. 👍

That happened to me as well, and again when I was playing co-op with F1Fan, but both times we were still able to get the key to the nook. There are two ways I found to do this when the idol is in the way. One is to push the idol into the nook, then get the key. The other way takes a little practice, but it is possible to jump onto the idol while holding the key, then simply drag it into the nook. Either way, you aren't stuck. 👍

That key is polystyrene, so with a bit of work you should have been able to jump over the relic with it. But that is not the first issue I have run into with the relic. I am thinking I will make it dissolve material (lighter) and have it disappear when you kill the boss. It is just an added switch.

I also need to adjust the board you use to climb over the house. I had a friend tell me that the first time he did it he just pulled it all the way off.

And I need to add a background. Right now the area from the start to the volcano is bland looking. I would make it a sticker witha picture from my Hawaii trip, but my thermometer is already 75% full. I don't know if I can make it work.

I found dropping the idol as an uneccessary step. In fact, because I can't see where the button is, it was pretty much impossible to aim for the button. That's when I also found out you don't need the idol. I just jumped on the swinging bat, and then jumped up and landed on the button.

If I can make a suggestion, if you could make it so that you can't simply jump on the button without dying, and then maybe lower the ledge the idol is on so you could see the button, thus be able to try and time the final push to hit it, it would make that step more meaningful. 👍

Regardless, it's still a fun level level! 👍

Hurm.....

I never intended the relic to be dropped on the button, just having the relic
come close to him is supposed to reveal the button (his weak spot) and then you are supposed to jump up again and hit the button.

My original intent was to have the relic reveal a brain bubble. In my testing area it always worked, you hit the bubble and he died. In my level you hit the bubble and you just got a bubble. I think that when I added the piston to make him move it screwed up the brain function.

You can see this in the Volcano God Beta Design item you get for collecting 100% items. His head was also supposed to flip open, not dissolve. But that created a glitch where if you landed on his head you got thrown behind him and got stuck.

I get it now. 👍

Although personally, I wouldn't call it a glitch, because you can always do a "Try Again" by poping yourself and going back to the last checkpoint. I actually think it's good to have traps like that as they cause the player to lose points if they don't make the right moves.

Oh, I was fine with it if you screwed up your jump. It was just that getting the relic and dropping down sometimes resulted in that and as you pointed out, you cannot see him from there. I tried another camera angle tool but then it felt jumpy as it jumped from one angle to another and there is no way to create a transition without a dozen or so camera angle tools, and then it could still seem like a stop-frame animation.

Someone knows how to get the Dr. FrankenStein trophy, because i have no idea where i cna make a living thing:(
