My mind is open, otherwise i wouldn't be asking. like i said, dont take my comments so seriously. I'm just curious. It looks like y'all are playing with a bunch of rag-dolls, my question is WHY? lol like i said, i looked at a bunch of vids online, because i'm trying my darndest to understand what is going on, and i went on wikipedia and some other sites, reading about it. And .i'm having a rib at you guys. I'm sarcastic. Dont take me so seriously.

So thanks for spending (what looks to be alot of time) there, D/N and FatalGoodbye. I will rent it for my nephew and neice i think. And i'll watch as they play it, who knows..maybe i'll get into it.

And also dont' assume i like playing blood & gore games all the time, right? :) GT/racing games have been in my console forever, the reason i got GT in the first place is because i got sick of games in which i found myself dying over and over. :grumpy: I also played Sims for awhile. My girlfriend at the time was way obsessed with it, and so i got into it. Honestly, i liked the fact that here's a game i can finally get into (sims) where i can just sit back...i'm not gnashing my teeth or screaming or throwing my controller at the wall.

Indeed D-N.

Parnelli, you ask "why?"; well we ask "why not?". I mean these types of things go both ways. Sure we're playing with a bunch of rag dolls, but it adds a dynamic to the game...the physics are different; they're unique. They aren't spot on, as the feel of playing is kind of "floaty". At first you may not like it, but it fits into the game MM/Sony built.

And I agree that the ads that you see on TV and some online vids of gameplay can be a bit confusing...there's a lot going on, but that's why you have to try it first. (Or just go to gametrailers.com and watch the developer walk-throughs; they're a lot simpler).
________
And I actually find it odd that you choose a sim. like GT over a shooter or action adventure game...I always thought that overall those are less teeth grinding. My friends hate GT and don't know why I like it; they say it's boring/frustrating.

Nonetheless it's good to hear that you'll at least give it a try.

Also, we're not mad at you or whatever, just trying to explain the best we can, because this game is worth it.

The game isn't for everyone though, I have lost interest in it after the initial week of playing it. It's just no longer fun for me, although Kate loves it and still plays it all the time, which is why it hasn't been traded in. I guess it could be worse, she could completely hate video games but it does cut into my time of playing Saints Row 2.

I think the main reason I don't care for LBP so much is that I dislike needlessly complicated games that require trial and error over and over again to figure something out. After dying several times while attempting to beat one of the levels I just threw in the towel and went onto something else. Plus I didn't really care for the story, but this comes from someone who loves fantasy RPG's with deep story lines and lots of decision making so my standards are more than likely a bit to high.

Also I attempted to make a level and failed at it so I've given up on that as well. I suppose I'm not very creative or patient enough to do it. I'm used to doing things like that on a computer so I found the controller to be a bit 'meh'.

As you can see though there are a lot of people who enjoy the game, which at least says give it a go and see. Just don't force yourself into liking it as it will ruin the experience for you. Also be sure and try some user created levels if you can as I find some of them to be far more entertaining then those made by the developer.

====

Is there any word on if there are plush sack boys for sale somewhere? I've looked around the internet but all I've found is a couple on eBay and they look like they are plastic. I know Kate would probably like one if I could find it somewhere.

No no, you misunderstood me there.

>i played the first three Tomb Raiders and Resident Evil and some others for like 3 years before i discovered GT. What happened was, after awhile i just got sick of action/adventure games in which i get to a point, and all a sudden it takes like 10 or 20 resets because i get stuck dying over and over. Then you gotta go online and grab a spoiler  just to get thru to the next part.

>I had some serious personal issues back in those days (2003) so i wanted to find somehing that would make me feel more consistently good about myself. (seriously) Somehow i wound up buying GT1.

> And what i dug (for awhile) about The Sims games, is the frustration parts are removed altogether. You can literally play a Sims game and be half-assed about it. NObody's gonna die. When stuff starts to go wrong, it actually gets funny (rather than frustrating). The problem with Sims is you're stuck in that damn house all the time. after awhile, i started to realize i never would see the rest of the "city". Which eventually led (for me, anyways) to finally buying GTA: Liberty City. :D

Oh i will. Soon as i see my nephew, i'll ask him if he's heard of it. See what his reaction is. I bet he'll think it's dumb, but my neice will probably dig it, since she's into puzzles & arts & craft stuff.

Yah. well i'm sarcastic. In real-life, there woulda been no doubt i would have had you guys all laughing. I mean, you do gotta admit the irony: the people who made LBP have figured out a way to get adults to play with rag dolls :embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed:

... but we can't see each other online, so i think my humor got misunderstood there.

Ot perhaps the irony may be that you have fooled yourself into thinking its a childish game with ragdolls. ;)

As far as being satirical, I'm a huge fan of satire myself, and use it regularly, but I would caution you that when you use satire, and as you say "rib" people, you really don't come off as being open minded at all. Perhaps you are, but if you reread your posts you may see why some may easily interpret your questions to be nothing more than rhetorical and meant to "rib" people, rather than genuinely want to understand why many people really enjoy this game.

"And that's all I have to say about that." ;)

Oh, alright. And yea, like D-N said, it's hard sometimes to interpret people's messages sometimes...but oh well, it's past us now.

Whooo hooooo!

Thanks to some much needed help from FoolKiller  in a particularly tricky x2 co-op section in The Temples Great Magician's Palace level as well as a x4 co-op level in The Wilderness Frozen Tundra level with two additional friends I was finally able to get all the prize bubbles in the story levels to earn the Booty Master *silver trophy.

*Although it really should be a gold considering the time and effort required  In fact, it took me longer to get that one than the Gold for aceing every level.

If anyone needs help locating some particularly dificult to find prize bubbles, or co-op challenges, I'll be online tonight and happy to help in any way I can.

I'm just wondering...how do you make levels? I go into the level editor thing, and two of the icons are unchooseable in the popup menu thing. How can I open this up?

Also, every time I try to go online, I keep getting error messages saying Failed to Connect, Failed to Create Game, and the list goes on. What's up with this?

You have to do the tutorials first. That's the only way you get the materials and items to start working with.

Call me stupid but, where do you find the tutorials lol. I found the first one, the tool to move stuff with, but can't find any others.

Oh right I found it, I just fail at stacking the things in a pyramid.

Leon you totally got this game so you could play with me. And I'm not letting you. Cause my PSN is a n00b-free zone.

Do I even have you on PSN? Add me and I'll consider friending you.

Thank you for asking. Do not take my comments above as a flame, i'm just (as i said) joking around.

No i haven't played it, but i did spend a good half hour today looking at some youtube footage. Like i said, i don't get it. I get how some people could dig LBP, but i dont see why it's such a huge deal. Now, the concept of it, certainly is a huge deal. That's a different story. And i see some pretty big names here in this forum (big names at GTP, i mean) so apparently alot of people are getting something from this game.

But ya know...carry on. If it's a game you guys like, keep playing it. :D And i'll keep playing Elder Scrolls and GT4 to carry out my D&D and race-driver fixations (since i'll never actually swing a real sword or race a real car).

Anyways, foolkiller, please explain to me. What am i missing here? :guilty:
Sorry for the late reply but I rarely get on GTP on the weekends.

It is hard to explain what is so awesome about it because everyone finds something different that draws them in. D-N has gone far and above to find every object, bubble, and Ace every level.

I have gone through and beat the story and aced a few levels while getting most of the objects, but the level creator would not let go of my mind. I have found myself at work doodling sketches for enemies and levels. I have a list of level concepts that just hit me while I am at work. My skills are far from being the best, but I am working hard on it and find myself trying various different things.

For others, as indicated by how I can't load the game without getting an invite to play with someone, it is all about the co-op play. Maybe it is a sad point that when I load it up I don't think to do co-op and start playing by myself until I get an invite. It's not that I am anti-social, I just don't think to do it. Although, I have begun signing out of the PSN anytime I intend to work on building my level because I never actually turn down a co-op invite.

It is hard to explain to someone who hasn't played the game what they are missing, and for some people the platforming gameplay and level creation just doesn't suit them.

When you do try it, if the story mode charm doesn't appeal to you I suggest spending some time doing level creation. If you have a bit of creativity in you then you will probably get drawn in. But give the creation stuff some time. It seemed slow when I was in the beta, but then I got into it. And when the full version came out I was fortunate enough to already have experience, tweak my current level, and then go to town on a new level that I am currently working on.

So, what you may be missing is the charm, the comradery, or even just the creative outlet. It all depends on what would appeal to you.

Although in LBP you can not only grab and slap your fellow player's sackpeople... but if you are feeling particularly mischievous, or in a very heated competitive game, you can kill them by tossing them and or slapping them into an enemy, fire, electricity, poisonous gas, etc. :D
Or, as I did when we were playing Frozen Tundra, slap someone just before a race starts. It was a cheap shot, but you laughed. Granted, it wasn't you that I slapped.

I have a similar issue with my wife wanting to play Sims on the Wii. She's thinking of moving the Wii to the TV in the bedroom.

Of course, the other day she went out and I was standing in front of the TV building a level. When she came home four hours later I was still standing there working on my level. She said, "Have you moved from that spot since I left?" "Yes, I took the dog out and needed another drink. I may have gone to the bathroom too, but don't remember."

Also I attempted to make a level and failed at it so I've given up on that as well. I suppose I'm not very creative or patient enough to do it. I'm used to doing things like that on a computer so I found the controller to be a bit 'meh'.
My biggest issue in level making is the physics. I keep forgetting that it is using realistic physics and some things just don't work unless I work with, not against, the physics. The controller slowed me down at first, but I have gotten used to it and can probably do things faster than with a mouse. My hand is steadier with an analog stick than a mouse.

Also be sure and try some user created levels if you can as I find some of them to be far more entertaining then those made by the developer.
Exactly. World of Colour is an excellent one. I have heard decent things about this one called Jungle Pits. Oh, and there is supposedly this upcoming level called Wrath of the Volcano God that is supposed to be freaking awesome. There is even a little buzz in one of the comments on my Friend's List. :sly:

Is there any word on if there are plush sack boys for sale somewhere? I've looked around the internet but all I've found is a couple on eBay and they look like they are plastic. I know Kate would probably like one if I could find it somewhere.
They have said that they are working on them and I even saw an ad for them from Japan, but it supposedly wasn't official. I want one and my wife wants one. If they make smaller versions that are about 3 inches tall it will go in my car.

With it taking so long I wonder if they aren't trying to play up the creative aspect of the game and make it like a plush Mr. Potato Head. That's just my thought though. It would be awesome if I could recreate my UK basketball Sackboy.

Finally got this game today after hearing good words about it. Is there anything I need to know before I get started?
Have fun. Embrace the fact that it is not like any other game out there. If you see platforming and expect Mario, you will be disappointed. If you see level creation and expect Forge you will be disappointed. If you look at it and see a world of possibilities, you will love it.

And I want to thank you for helping me get my 100% items on The Bunker. Now I just need to Ace it. That will be put off for another day though.
*Although it really should be a gold considering the time and effort required  In fact, it took me longer to get that one than the Gold for aceing every level.
I think The Bunker deserves its own special trophy for acing it.
If anyone needs help locating some particularly dificult to find prize bubbles, or co-op challenges, I'll be online tonight and happy to help in any way I can.
I can help too. I have the game guide and can direct anyone who needs it to the hidden items. As D-N has seen I haven't really used it for that myself as I was still missing a number of items. It has proven helpful in level creation though.

Anyway, I should have my next level complete by this weekend. With the holidays I should have time to finish it. Once it is done I think I will do a Behind the Scenes post here.

I will take pictures of my sketches and doodles. Then I will film the separate level I have called Testing Area to show the castaway parts from ideas that don't work and the completed ideas. Then I will film a fly-over of my level in Edit mode so that all my switches and emitters are visible, and then I will play through the level.

I think it will be one of those fun things to do that will allow people to see just how I did it and give everyone a frame of reference if there are questions.

It will also give everyone a chance to see how things change from the initial idea to the final product.

I'm really looking forward to playing your new level FK. 👍

I also really liked your custom UK jersey. 👍

Speaking of costumes, if the add in the Japanese PSN store continues to be accurate, this Thursday we will have a free SackTurkeyhead costume (seen to the right of the SackBox) and a SackChimera costume from Resistance 2 (seen in the bottom left hand side) :

Although frankly you can make a pretty good SackChimera on your own, and it's very easy to do:

739_1.jpg

 • Material: Brown Camo
 • Eyes: Cartoon Eyes
 • Hands: Medusa Gloves
 • Torso: Minotaur Wrist Gaurds
 • Waist: Minotaur Hooves
 • Objects: Button Eyes x4
 • Objects: Sharp Tooth x4 (mine has x5, as I made three small ones for the lower teeth)

If you don't have the GoW pack, you can easily substitute all but the wrist gaurds.

The trick is to make sure you place the teeth so that they open and close with the mouth without disappearing depending on the emotion used. The same is true for the additional eyes above the main eyes. If they are too close they will not show up when using some emotions, like the very angry face, which is a fun one to use with this character.

That's great! 👍

I just beat the creator last night and when through all the tutorials for content creation. (behind the times, I know) Before the tutorial, I must had spent a good hour trying to make a gear rotate with no success. I should had gone through all the tutorials first to find the many tools available. No need to re-invent the wheel (or gear in this case).

I sent you an invite the day I got LBP. So go check the bottom of your friends list.

Homework is for people who can't handle the epicness of my level which will most likely be posted within the week.

The wheel in the Bunker made my eyes hurt :(

I've done the first three zones with 100% completion and Aced now. Onto Metropolis it is :D

OMG. I'd go insane from trying to 100% and ace every level before I moved on. We have been averaging 70% completion or so.

Actually, I think it may be nearly impossible to get 100% and ace every level before moving on to another as some stickers used as triggers are obtained in other levels. But you can hit each zone at once.

I just played through everything to complete the story mode and now when I need a break from level creation I go back to see if I can 100% and/or ace another level.

I just finished the storyline today - anyone who can Ace "The Bunker" needs seventy-eight Platinum trophies.

Give one to D-N.

Also, if you need a tip on the easiest way to do it, which I think may have been an intended but subtle trick: Don't use the floors. Up is down and down is up.

If you want an actual explanation of what that means I can give it, but it is floating around online.

That's how I did it, but "easiest" is still relative.

Anyone who thinks this is a kids' game hasn't seen our seven year crying because the bat killed her.

I didn't think you could do that for two reasons, one I thought on the *outer most ring, if you fall to far behind you get shocked, thus I assumed it would prevent you from doing that, also, the exit from the outer most ring is located at the bottom, so if you did manage to get to the top of the ring such that you are racing along the ceiling and not the floor, how would you be able to ever reach the exit?

*Which is indeed brutal, and requires not just good timing on the jumps, but varying the hight/power of each jump.

I may need to a video explanation on this one. :odd:

Anyone who thinks this is a kids' game hasn't seen our seven year crying because the bat killed her.
We have a 6-yr old son and 4-yr old daughter, and they were both taken back shall we say by the ghosts that appear in the third level of the first story. What we did, that may work for your kids as well, is we made sure to not use the word die, and not only described it as being "popped", but made a point to purposefully do it to ourselves and laugh when we did it, and almost instantly, rather than being frightening they though it was hilarious, and have both progressed pretty far into the game with only some occasional help from us. Granted, it takes them more time than us, and they go through a lot of sackpeople to do it, but so far, they have been able to hold their own. 👍

In fact, just a couple nights ago, I was playing LBP with my daughter when an important call came in my son took over my controller while I was on the phone. When I returned, apparently F1Fan joined both my kids and were playing online without him even knowing it wasn't me playing. I then turned on the mic in the PS Eye and we all surprised him with a group greeting.

That is the trickiest part. There is one platform that is high enough off the floor that you can jump on to it when running on the top. Then as the wheel turns you have to time your jumps just right to land on the side and then the top as it comes around.

I have only pulled it off once, but I die much less in getting to this point than if I do it the normal way.
