Thank you for asking. Do not take my comments above as a flame, i'm just (as i said) joking around.
No i haven't played it, but i did spend a good half hour today looking at some youtube footage. Like i said, i don't get it. I get how some people could dig LBP, but i dont see why it's such a huge deal. Now, the
concept of it, certainly is a huge deal. That's a different story. And i see some pretty big names here in this forum (big names at GTP, i mean) so apparently alot of people are getting something from this game.
But ya know...carry on. If it's a game you guys like, keep playing it.
![Big Grin :D :D](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/biggrin.svg?v=3)
And i'll keep playing Elder Scrolls and GT4 to carry out my D&D and race-driver fixations (since i'll never actually swing a real sword or race a real car).
Anyways, foolkiller, please explain to me. What am i missing here?
Sorry for the late reply but I rarely get on GTP on the weekends.
It is hard to explain what is so awesome about it because everyone finds something different that draws them in. D-N has gone far and above to find every object, bubble, and Ace every level.
I have gone through and beat the story and aced a few levels while getting most of the objects, but the level creator would not let go of my mind. I have found myself at work doodling sketches for enemies and levels. I have a list of level concepts that just hit me while I am at work. My skills are far from being the best, but I am working hard on it and find myself trying various different things.
For others, as indicated by how I can't load the game without getting an invite to play with someone, it is all about the co-op play. Maybe it is a sad point that when I load it up I don't think to do co-op and start playing by myself until I get an invite. It's not that I am anti-social, I just don't think to do it. Although, I have begun signing out of the PSN anytime I intend to work on building my level because I never actually turn down a co-op invite.
It is hard to explain to someone who hasn't played the game what they are missing, and for some people the platforming gameplay and level creation just doesn't suit them.
When you do try it, if the story mode charm doesn't appeal to you I suggest spending some time doing level creation. If you have a bit of creativity in you then you will probably get drawn in. But give the creation stuff some time. It seemed slow when I was in the beta, but then I got into it. And when the full version came out I was fortunate enough to already have experience, tweak my current level, and then go to town on a new level that I am currently working on.
So, what you may be missing is the charm, the comradery, or even just the creative outlet. It all depends on what would appeal to you.
Although in LBP you can not only grab and slap your fellow player's sackpeople... but if you are feeling particularly mischievous, or in a very heated competitive game, you can kill them by tossing them and or slapping them into an enemy, fire, electricity, poisonous gas, etc.
Or, as I did when we were playing Frozen Tundra, slap someone just before a race starts. It was a cheap shot, but you laughed. Granted, it wasn't you that I slapped.
The game isn't for everyone though, I have lost interest in it after the initial week of playing it. It's just no longer fun for me, although Kate loves it and still plays it all the time, which is why it hasn't been traded in. I guess it could be worse, she could completely hate video games but it does cut into my time of playing Saints Row 2.
I have a similar issue with my wife wanting to play Sims on the Wii. She's thinking of moving the Wii to the TV in the bedroom.
Of course, the other day she went out and I was standing in front of the TV building a level. When she came home four hours later I was still standing there working on my level. She said, "Have you moved from that spot since I left?" "Yes, I took the dog out and needed another drink. I may have gone to the bathroom too, but don't remember."
Also I attempted to make a level and failed at it so I've given up on that as well. I suppose I'm not very creative or patient enough to do it. I'm used to doing things like that on a computer so I found the controller to be a bit 'meh'.
My biggest issue in level making is the physics. I keep forgetting that it is using realistic physics and some things just don't work unless I work with, not against, the physics. The controller slowed me down at first, but I have gotten used to it and can probably do things faster than with a mouse. My hand is steadier with an analog stick than a mouse.
Also be sure and try some user created levels if you can as I find some of them to be far more entertaining then those made by the developer.
Exactly. World of Colour is an excellent one. I have heard decent things about this one called Jungle Pits. Oh, and there is supposedly this upcoming level called Wrath of the Volcano God that is supposed to be freaking awesome. There is even a little buzz in one of the comments on my Friend's List.
Is there any word on if there are plush sack boys for sale somewhere? I've looked around the internet but all I've found is a couple on eBay and they look like they are plastic. I know Kate would probably like one if I could find it somewhere.
They have said that they are working on them and I even saw an ad for them from Japan, but it supposedly wasn't official. I want one and my wife wants one. If they make smaller versions that are about 3 inches tall it will go in my car.
With it taking so long I wonder if they aren't trying to play up the creative aspect of the game and make it like a plush Mr. Potato Head. That's just my thought though. It would be awesome if I could recreate my UK basketball Sackboy.
Finally got this game today after hearing good words about it. Is there anything I need to know before I get started?
Have fun. Embrace the fact that it is not like any other game out there. If you see platforming and expect Mario, you will be disappointed. If you see level creation and expect Forge you will be disappointed. If you look at it and see a world of possibilities, you will love it.
Thanks to some much needed help from FoolKiller  in a particularly tricky x2 co-op section in The Temples Great Magician's Palace level as well as a x4 co-op level in The Wilderness Frozen Tundra level with two additional friends I was finally able to get all the prize bubbles in the story levels to earn the Booty Master *silver trophy.
And I want to thank you for helping me get my 100% items on The Bunker. Now I just need to Ace it. That will be put off for another day though.
*Although it really should be a gold considering the time and effort required  In fact, it took me longer to get that one than the Gold for aceing every level.
I think The Bunker deserves its own special trophy for acing it.
If anyone needs help locating some particularly dificult to find prize bubbles, or co-op challenges, I'll be online tonight and happy to help in any way I can.
I can help too. I have the game guide and can direct anyone who needs it to the hidden items. As D-N has seen I haven't really used it for that myself as I was still missing a number of items. It has proven helpful in level creation though.
Anyway, I should have my next level complete by this weekend. With the holidays I should have time to finish it. Once it is done I think I will do a Behind the Scenes post here.
I will take pictures of my sketches and doodles. Then I will film the separate level I have called Testing Area to show the castaway parts from ideas that don't work and the completed ideas. Then I will film a fly-over of my level in Edit mode so that all my switches and emitters are visible, and then I will play through the level.
I think it will be one of those fun things to do that will allow people to see just how I did it and give everyone a frame of reference if there are questions.
It will also give everyone a chance to see how things change from the initial idea to the final product.
