Livery Editer Philosophy For GT5

Lolz stupid idea and not very logical.:dunce:
An ingame version would be more practical.

Do explain yourself for why its a stupid idea and why its not logical? The point of an out of game livery editor was to save space on the game, so your HDD doesn't implode.

Of all the hardcore sim players in the world, only a explicit few of those (If we compare raw numbers) know how to make skins in all those photoshop programs. Imo a in-game livery editor alà FM3 is the best solution even if it means copying FM3.

Btw, making a nude themed car paintjob on the computer is quicker than sizing, assembling and coloring a bunch of blocks, circles, triangles and rectangles anyways, kind of a self-defeating protest that!

Yeah, but you could always download others work like in the storefront from the website to put on to the car. :)

And your taking a risk anyway by going online. If a kid isn't allowed to hear profanity or see it then the parents are taking a risk by letting the child online in the first place. Even then they could add a feature that would block other's liveries in-game based on the age group they represent.

That is not true. It is also in Seasonals. Drift.

Oh, it is?!?!?

How do you use headtracking anyway? Do you need the Playstation EYE? Or do you need the dreaded move.

Just the EYE. It works pretty good once you get it dialed in. It also works better with the room lit well.

My guess? I think I am right but I believe Kaz added this to the drift because drifters look out the doors to see, but if he put it in there it should be everywhere.

Just something else this man did that doesn't make any sense.

I've scanned through the posts in this thread and I don't think I saw any reference to a simple web browser based editor. I used to play Army of Two: The 40th Day with a mate of mine, turned out the game was junk. Anyway, the game had an editor for creating custom masks. Whilst I would want the library to be vastly larger than the one AoT offered, the basic principles were sound.

You go to the web based editor. You are presented with your template. You have a library of shapes, patterns, symbols, colours, etc. You create your design, preview on a generic car, save and then upload to your GT5 profile. Simples.

EDIT: Feedback left...

How does it work? surely looking away from the screen then straining your eyes back to the screen to see the effect is pretty anoying?

A GT livery editor would most likely be like the suits: You win them randomly and 80% of them looks like ****. Even though the idea of something completely original and self-made is something I reaaaally like, PD is most likely thinking that they want to control what's in the game and what's not.

Although Livery Editor in Forza is masterpiece creative-tool, I really wouldn't like to see it that way in Gran Turismo. It ruins the experience, it allows for SpongeBob and My Little Pony cars everywhere and actual *good* use of it is pretty much ddone by less than 10% of users.

I want this.

Maybe there could be an option where you could choose for the textures to appear for you or not. That way people can have their livery editor and people that don't want to see them don't have to.

But wouldn't it be great to see in a replay a spongebob liveried (no clue if that is an actual word) car blasting past a properly designed racing livery?

No, leave this to the Forza arcade racers.
Keep GT the real driving simulator please.

I'd more than be willing to view a ton of awful liveries made by three year olds than not have the option to make my own livery at all.

At the very least, I'd like a Forza style editor, and ideally, I'd like a way to import images (or a complete livery) that I made in Photoshop from my PC.

I think we could have the best of both worlds: the option put forward by OP, as well as dedicated editor within GT6. Not going to happen for GT5 though I wouldn't have thought.

More generally, a livery editor is an absolute must for GT6. The argument that "oh, someone will paint a car with profanity all over it" or "someone will write something offensive" is simply not a valid argument.

If it was, PD was as well take text chat away from the lobbies, as someone will always write something offensive and/or find a way to bypass the swear filter. It's just the way it is.

Like has been previously noted, an option could always exist for a) turning displayed liveries off and on and b) reporting an offensive livery.

These solutions are better than no livery editor at all.

I get the feeling Kaz wants to put it in, but thats only based off the fact that I get the feeling that Polyphony put in as much effort into the photo modes as they did into the driving engine. With the show-offing of photos and all the stuff I'm sure you can do with that I suspect that a livery editor would've added another dimension to all that fun.

Honestly since I don't drift a whole lot or go to arcade mode it doesn't see much action. But sometimes I do use and I think it is pretty good for the first time real time headtracking has been done in a racing game on a console.

If you want to know more just PM me.

Intention was not to hijack the thread.

On topic: It is possible that Kaz and PD don't know how to implement a system that lets the end user do it seemlessly and with minimal effort. You know their not gods and since they don't use any other games as inspiration it's not so far fetched.

I don't think the problem is how the livery editor can and will be implemented in the game but rather the fact with PS3 and how PD is rendering the graphics especially in regards to the cars, it is not currently feasible.

If you study how the cars in GT5 look when compared to Forza or SHIFT, you can see the difference and why it's possible in those two games and not in GT5.

Still, I agree with PD creating either an app or a simple way of exporting a livery via a template that you can use in PS or any image editor.

EDIT- One way to control or (heaven forbids) censor offensiveness is to simply moving the responsibility to the community that plays the game. Have a simple report button and have someone from the GT5 community to investigate and decide if it's even offensive.

If PD can't get the body lines and grills to quit flickering like a burnt out flourescent light then I would hate to have seen any livery editor that they had planned. If they even had one.

At this point PD should simply take a big ****ing piece of humble pie and copy the way Forza's livery editor works, pretty much verbatim.

Why is this a big discussion when the solution is staring everyone in the face?

Man thats what people need to understand if your grill and body lines flicker like a burnt out flourescent light then holding a user created graphic might be harder.

That and due to the fact that the lighting and shadows in GT5 and how they reflect and interact with and onto the car are much more complex than in either Forza and SHIFT.

Personally, I prefer the way GT5 look. Yes, the sharpness and lighting does create a more shimmering and flickering effects on the car. But to me often than not, it looks much more real than any other racing sims with the exception of iRacing (especially with the new shader). It's not as pretty as SHIFT or even Forza but much more real.

I wouldn't mind if you could paint all parts of the RM liveries, to me that'd be a half decent compromise.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

An addition to this could be that you could have the choice to upload your design to the GT Website, where you could download other liveries. Say if I wanted a Fast and Furious Skyline, I wouldn't have to create it, I could just search it up on the Website and find one I liked. A lot like the storefront idea, just without taking too much disk space.

Sounds great 👍👍👍 A sort of NoGrip forum for GT5, awesome! It could be a cost effective feature that will help PD to deal with the new and impressive FM4. I hope they'll listen you because even if I don't like to admit, GT5 will get quickly old once FM4 will be out. They have to add features like this to keep the game alive.

Same here. He did also mention (don't know the exact quote) that a lot of features planned for GT5 would be put into GT6 (whenever it comes out...).

I bet you there will be some massive update (or dlc) for GT5 before FM4 comes out in October. After all, GT5 Prologue's servers were conveniently given a life extension until September.
