Guys... I know Logitech has a bullet proof reputation, but they too have suffered from teething troubles, and early wheel batches with issues. The advice is always to wait at least 3 months (preferably 6) for any new wheel if you want to avoid such things.

Now if the G29 is mostly G27 internals it should be less of a risk... But if you early adopt a wheel and have issues, that's just the way it is. Go into it with your eyes open.

Being an early adopter always comes with a risk indeed, but considering the reported form factor and aggressive pricing, you would imagine there’s quite a decent amount of reused/field proven tech inside (hopefully confirmed soon). As an officially licensed Playstation wheel, lets hope this hybrid shares enough of DFGT/G2# DNAs for them to be included in the mandatory PS4 driver...

Really weird for them to package a triple pedal with the wheel, but have the shifter sold separately :odd:

That's not weird, it's pro-active 👍; helps keeping cost down (for the initial set) while assuring further compatibility...

I wonder if G25/27 shifters work with the G29?

That would be great indeed, also for their pedals too because the pictured (blue?) new ones are looking a bit more plasticky (could just be due to the snapshot quality)...

The G25 shifter doesn't work on the G27, & the G27 shifter doesn't work on the G25, so I'll be surprised if either works on the new G29. But I suppose we'll have to just wait & see.

👍

It could be a stand alone USB shifter? Makes sense if you think about it, especially if they get it out there at a lower price point than the TH8A.

I think you have your exchange rates a bit muddled...... ;)

£189.99 is $290.25........ or 264.30euro

Actually £189.99 is a bargain, the T300RS is usually about £299 ($456) and most main high street retailers are sticking to that price.

Yeah, yeah, got my Euro's and Pounds mixed up.

The wheel rim looks so cluttered. But I guess that's their only option if they're going to sell the wheel and the shifter separately.

Well yeah, but I feel it's sort of half-half. Either they package it with 2 pedals and drive the price down even more, or just package 3 pedals + shifter and raise the price by a little bit. I don't know. I feel that when people buy the G29 and see it has 3 pedals, they would want to get the shifter anyways so why not package them all together like in the past. And as someone has said, it'll move most of the buttons from the wheel and make it look less cluttered.

I see. I only have the G25 so I don't know about cross compatibility stuff. Guess it's best not to get my hopes up then :P

Theory time: I don't know much about wheels, but doesn't the T300RS use a different 'technology' for the FFB? I wonder if the G29 uses something similar.

Swapping few wires and works.

If you're talking about the brushless motor? Yes. If you're talking about non-HID? No.

Then again, look at how easy it is to support controllers on the PC.

The DFGT as far as I can remember was PS3 dedicated but could work on the PC according to the game.
The DFGT came with a disc if you wanted to install the drivers to use it on a PC. It was also compatible with the PS2.

Interesting,

I suppose there may be an uproar about no PC support for the G29 that Logitech may do just that.

It sure looks as a compromise. But while putting a DFGT set of pedals in the box could have lowered the price even further, it would have (IMO) reduced the attractiveness of the package (pedals look and feel being often the weak part of entry level wheels). And for those interested by a manual gear stick it would have significantly raised the price of upgrading. Including the shifter may just have forbidden them to reach their target/symbolic price range... Ultimately, the presence of the clutch could also incite more people to upgrade to manual transmission (depending on the offering).

Kind of agree on the cluttered aspect, but will wait for a real world experience to see how intrusive these buttons actually are.

G27 uses helical gears for the motor-to-wheel while the T300/500 uses a belt drive system, iirc. The pictures we have seen of the G29 look like it uses the same base motor/FFB unit as the G27. It may be updated with a more efficiency motor, but i doubt they could/would use the same housing to create a belt-drive system. IMO, the G29 looks like a quick upgrade to the G27 to make it function with PS4 and get some quick sales without major investment into new parts or technology. Since logitech seems to have reversed their position on no longer supporting gaming accessories this makes the most sense (dollars and cents!), imo.

Hmm, interesting. Are belt-driven systems bigger than the helical gears?
I was thinking it could be possible since the G27 got upgraded internals different from the G25 and it's the same housing.

I am hope for G29 Shifter is same as G25....switch gears is the best. Finger crossed! 2 more weeks to go (if I'm correct)

Aye, hopefully the same, but with more resistance & feel.

Belt drive can certainly be done in a space that size, as has been demonstrated by Fanatec for a very long time now.

It could be possible, but highly unlikely. IMO, it looks like logitech stopped all development of 'console' accessories. But, once they got back on their feet (new owner, new CEO, idk) they needed to bring something to market for the current gen and like i said earlier, it makes most dollars and cents to upgrade an existing product rather than create something entirely new and the suspected price point also suggests this is most likely what happened. This is just speculation on my part, i could be entirely wrong!

This is a solid set for the budget sim racer.
Potentially. Although we don't know the specific details yet and the price is still to be announced.

Looking at what Logitech's competition has to offer, the G29 could be a serious contender within the budget sector.......unless Logitech have made some changes and improvements to the wheelbase (FFB tech), in which case it could rival the T300.

We'll know for sure once the official announcement is made.
