Looking at what Logitech's competition has to offer, the G29 could be a serious contender within the budget sector.......unless Logitech have made some changes and improvements to the wheelbase (FFB tech), in which case it could rival the T300.

If the internals rival the T300's, I think someone at Logitech needs to be fired. That someone being whoever gave the G29 a deliberately budget look. There's a reason why cheap food brands often have deliberately cheap looking packaging - to attract the target consumer. If this thing is sold at any amount over the DFGT price, it's a big fail in the marketing department. Hell, if the internals are as good as a G27, it's still a big fail at any price point over that of a DFGT.

Then again, there's more than one consumer principle. Maybe underselling on looks will actually work in a communicative environment such as the sim racing arena.

Hmm, interesting. Are belt-driven systems bigger than the helical gears?
I was thinking it could be possible since the G27 got upgraded internals different from the G25 and it's the same housing.

It's difficult to make anything smaller than what Logitech have done with the G27, it's literally just two motors with 11-tooth gears meshed with a 180-tooth gear, it doesn't get much more compact than that. You can fit a belt drive transmission in the same space, my belt driven G27 mod will fit in an area smaller than the G27's stock base, but it's much more densely packed and a lot more expensive than the stock three gears, two of which are identical and the third is an injection moulded plastic one.

As I've posted before, I think they'd do well to swap to herringbone gears but otherwise keep it the same as the G27 and sell it for less than the G27 - the separate shifter hopefully means that's the plan. The R&D costs must've been tiny compared to a ground-up design and really I see no reason why they couldn't build it for less, unless Sony's licensing program is massively expensive, maybe. I know plenty of PC gamers who (rightly) think the G27 is overkill for their needs and wouldn't pay more than £100 anyway, so a £200+ wheel that doesn't come with a shifter won't appeal to them much... If the wheel feels the same as a G27 but costs the same without a shifter, they're not going to sell many to non-PS4 users. Then again if it only works on PS4 as that somewhat dubious site said, that's hardly going to matter anyway.

That's a good point. Sony will be taking their cut.

I'm guessing that Sony primarily make their money by charging companies like Thrustmaster & Logitech for the "Security Chips" (aka Money-Making Chips), as well as by giving them a license for backwards compatibility so that older wheels can work in certain games, like they did with Fanatec. At least they're becoming flexible about it.

Don't need chips to make money off of licensing.

Just being allowed to use the official playstation logo is worth a lot, along with "officially licensed product".

I suppose Logitech might be slugged in a couple of directions - paying licenses to both Sony, and Immersion Touchsense.

This is a very interesting product - all I really need is a decent entry-level wheel. The ideal solution would be to simply be able to use my existing DFGT, but if that's not possible, a PS4-compatible Logitech wheel with performance comparable to the DFGT/G25/27 is the next best thing.

But what I really need to know is that the clamping system remains the same, so I can use my existing wheelstand.

I'm pretty sure that's made up. But then, most of the times when I said this, it turned out to be true, so ...

I think Logitech are making a huge mistake if they don't support PC. I currently have a DFGT and this G29 might be enough to push me to upgrade, especially if it has 3 pedals and a H-Shifter. Except I mostly use my wheel on the PC (LFS, ETS2, etc) and I'd never consider a wheel with no PC support. PC is probably the biggest market for wheels in the G29's probable price range, and Logitech is going to alienate both that market and Xbox users. Not smart.

Of course, there's also the question of how they're going to block PC support. I imagine someone will come up with some way to support it.

Pc support won't be blocked. They won't support it, therefore someone else will.

Maybe it's got to do with the FFB technology licensing. Maybe Sony bit the bullet and paid the licensing fee to Immersion so Logitech could make a wheel compatible to the new consoles. That new license might only include Sony's consoles (provided that Sony paid for it)
Just a theory.

A shame it won't be officially supported on PC. I mean someone will make a driver for it (inevitably), but it's not the same.

I'll probably just save up a bit longer and get a T300RS. If the G29 is based on G27 components I might as well upgrade to a better wheel. I'm beginning to feel the outdatedness of my G25's FFB lol.

That's just VirtualR reporting on what was posted here before, that doesn't make it any more true or verified. It's possible it won't have PC support but I'd be astonished if Logitech would make a G-series product that wasn't PC-compatible, it would make more sense for them to release it under a different name entirely if that was the case.

Console only? Yeah right. And even if they were stupid enough to make it console only, we'd simply just plug in an adapter to make it USB compatible and write some drivers for it based off the old G25/27 drivers. Give it a week, maybe two, after launch, and it'd work seamlessly on PC.

The only thing I'm expecting about this is G25/G27 support for the PS4, really.

It's final?! I thought it was just a :censored:ing prototype...

Considering someone said over here that the FPO means final, and that they're already printing boxes I'd say yes, it's final.

Clearly the product designer dropped this:

It looks overly cluttered and stupid. The only nice looking thing is the pedals.

So same force feedback base than the G27 with a simple helical gearing
= no Belts
= no Brushless Motor
= no Hall Effect Sensor???
= no Detachable wheel???
No surprise regarding Logitech. Out of interest, do you think Thrustmaster will improve deadzone of pedals such as the T500RS pedals, now T3PA Pro pedals so it is more instant response and also improve reliability of T300RS and maybe include more silent fans as I think that is big advantage Logitech have at the moment.

So it's a matter of seeing if the H-Shifter makes the G27 work with the PS4, right?

Also, the German G29 page indicates PC compatibility.

I can't imagine of the shifter's physical appearance though since all the buttons and everything are on the wheel itself this time...
