Lotus E21 launch

The only surprise I can see is MOAR RED!

Kimi looks a bit like "Himi" I can only assume Romain has got "Heri" on the other car.

oh no, they kept the stepped nose. I hope we wont see it anymore in 2014.

Spotted a number of differences - and between the rendered photo's online and the one at the launch!!!

Video doesn't do it justice, but lowest suspension beam at the front has a fork in it that looks different and some huge turning vanes hanging on it.

To be honest, I've gotten used to them now. They no longer bother me. So really I think it depends on the individual.

HATE stepped noses.

Pretty uggo effort from Lotus, especially the trying-to-add-red-to-offset-the-dullness, but if it can deliver race wins for Kimi and keep the title fight exciting, then the aesthetics will be of least concern.

I like it, the fact the Wing isn't the only thing red helps it a lot.👍

I wish they got rid of the stepped nose but it doesn't look too bad on the Lotus(nor did it last year).

Ugly livery. I don't know why they insist on going for the classic JPS livery and then ruin it with the red from the sponsors. Should have gone for the red/white/gold if they wanted a classic livery to go with their sponsors.

So what happened to the "modesty" panels? Or is this not the real E21 and just an E20 mocked up?

I agree with those saying that the extra red helps..but the red still ruins the livery. To be honest, Lotus Cars recent activities have pretty much ruined that livery for me as they painted it on everything (with the red in some cases).
Seeing as Lotus Cars has nothing to do with this team now and Team Lotus is basically dead dead dead, why can't this team call it self something original and use some more interesting paint? Does the "Lotus" name really carry much weight still?

I think they could have done something fun with the Burn logo, albeit Coca-Cola presumably aren't paying enough to paint the entire car (then again Lotus didn't exactly give them a ton of cash either..).

Ah well, nice to see drivers names on the cars at least.

I really don't like the red spoiling the classic livery, does nothing for it in my eyes. As for the stepped nose, I thought that was banned for 2014?

Besides a new rear wing not much has changed.
I know - but all across the internet, I'm seeing people raving about how it's a totally revolutionary design. And maybe it is in comparions to the launch version of the E20, but tihs just looks like a slight evolution of the car that raced in Brazil.

Ah, the front wing looks so... placeholder-y...

xD

And personally, I don't like the new splash of more red, and was hoping for more Burn placement over the car.

The back looks essentially the same, to these unscientific eyes. And I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't use that modesty panel, but how could one blame an F1 team for opting out of putting more weight on? No matter how slight that weight would've been.

Quite a let down; livery looks average, stepped nose looks average and the yellow wheels aren't exactly working for me either...

Did you see the unveil video? They're go way too overboard with this whole "know what I'm doing" stuff, it's just cringe and cringe from what Kimi and the team's trying to do with their "catchphrase" now D:

They ditched the vanity panel to save weight.
Actually, the modesty plates don't weigh very much at all, so "we dropped it to save weight" is a pretty lame excuse. It's more likely that they didn't see any aerodynamic benefit or loss from it, and so decided it was unnecessary.

I don't think it's Grosjean's sponsor, they are a French corporation though. They first went with this new throwback to the John Player Special in 2011 when they were still more Renault than Lotus and I remember back then, before the revealed the new black and gold scheme, we were all assuming it'd be black and gold all over, but Total stepped in and refused to change their colors, so the endplates stayed red... it grew on me a bit over time, but now the sidepod being red is just too much.

And I agree about the rims looking whack in yellow, would've been much better if they were just gold.

I don't know the exact reasoning of course, but the thing about the weight saving, no matter how little, allows them the use of more ballast to move around, so I'd think they'd always see that as a good way to go.
