Since the Miata series is postponed for quite a while...

#40: outlaw4rc (outlaw4rc): Le Mans Blue Metallic/Brilliant Red

Has anyone ever had problems when they're all by themselves? I know I haven't. The only time I can remember actually feeling lag issues (I had a wtf no brakes! moment once, and in the GVE-r miata pre-race there was a time where no matter how hard I pushed I was a second slow for no reason) I was involved in multi-car bunches.

Yes, multiple times, here are two instances that come to mind. During the preseason race for Season 2 of FMSC I continued to suffer from "phantom" lag even after I had dropped to the very back of the pack, well clear of any other cars. Recently, in a Cappuccino Cup race I watched first and second drive away from me as I chased them all by my lonesome. The pain continued even with a five second bubble around me.

I'm still really disappointed with how my race turned out. Seems like if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all.

MULE, I hate seeing you suffer. You need to save your loonies and toonies and join the Club of Men and Steering Wheels. When I watch your replays and see the mistakes/crashes/offs that you endure I can't stop thinking that you wouldn't have been in those situations if you could have just been a bit smoother or more precise with your inputs. If you don't have the loot for a new purchase start searching the local online classifieds or ask around on GTP. That is how I found both of the G25s I have purchased and my Obutto. I promise that you won't regret your purchase. In fact, you'll wonder how you ever played Gran Turismo with a controller for as long as you did.

Yeah, boyyyeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I was going to post a full race report, but I realized it'd be really long and boring, and just full of stuff that honestly nobody cares about, so I wont bother.

About the lag, it's honestly something that we're all just going to have to get used to. I have no idea if PD plan on using the GT5P servers for GT5, or a future game or what. I guess the earliest we'll know is September.

That being said, Yes, we will do our best to enforce people using as much internet as they can on their PS3. Cami said after the race that he still had the Womens Soccer game on a stream during the race. That is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the future.

An exception can be made for Wardez, as he broadcasts our races live, and this can be a valuable tool for getting the series out to people. Also, he's able to do this for everything he races in, and only had problems last week because of a thunderstorm.

@Brosif - One of the first things I planned to do with this job I had for a day was to get a wheel. 88 bucks a day for 11 days would have easily gotten that for me, but alas the stupid yarn factory decided to replace me after 1 day. "Wasn't motivated enough." pfft. 👎

But yeah, I'm sure it would help, and I'll definitely look around. I saw a thread where this one girl was giving away a DFGT, but I was too late for that. Gotta keep the eyes open, I guess.

Sorry about that. :guilty:

oooooohhh you're using a ds3... that makes perfect sense. Well done for being this competitive.
No wonder you were frustrated with autumn ring reverse; that track needs a wheel to find that extra second. It's all about soft inputs.
And I think laguna seca has at least a second just in the pedals.
LaSarthe is pretty controller friendly though. I remember doing the 24 hours in GT4 before I got my wheel.

The problem with the lag that many experience has nothing to do with their connection, but with the GT5 servers. First I had a 100 Mb/s Router with password(WPA) and I could play online perfectly except for GT5. When I got GT5, I couldn't last more than 10 minutes in a session no matter from where the session was created. Any other games I own, I could play online perfectly. So, I bought a 600Mb/s router(6x faster than my previous one). The problem with GT5 was gone, and download speeds increased a lot. Sometimes I get insane speeds of 2Mb/s when downloading content. My connection only went down twice in about 6 months! I have no lag whatsoever on any game except GT5. The disconnection problem has been fixed but the lag is still there sometimes. This just shows how weak the GT5 servers are, unfortunately. :(

Maybe with the closing of GT5 Prologue servers, PD can work on improving the GT5 servers. If Im not mistaken, the GT5 servers crashed on the first day due to its size. There was too much traffice at the time, and all PD did was increase the limit of people allowed, but forgot to strengthen their servers. And specially after patch 1.10 its gotten worse.

La Sarthe is pretty much my best track. My highest finish in the Integras came there for a reason.

I'm psyched you joined up too Outlaw 👍

This series, along with the Evora in GT4, has really turned me into a Lotus fan. I'm looking into test driving an Exige sometime soon!

The Triple, as Brosif said, is also turning into my favorite car in GT5 as well. Try it on racing softs too, it's just... it just goes and doesn't stop, like the Queen song.

Brosif and I did about 10 laps today. I went with the RKM tune and loved how the car handled. There are a few things I have to work on though:

1. The dreaded push the car gets because of the effects of the draft. Normally, I make my cars a bit looser than what I'm comfortable with and that counters it but with this car, I don't want to do that.
2. After Lap 5, I had trouble with wheelspin on exits and I was crashing all over the place. I adjusted the LSD to compensate but I think I can also compensate with good throttle management.
3. I forgot to install the titanium exhaust so I was down on power. That means I'll have to relearn the track a bit. :dunce:
4. I can't get the entry into the Porsche curves right. I've never been good there in any car so I'm not surprised.

I'll be practicing in my lounge a bit this week to understand the nuances of the Elise. Anyone who wants to jump in for some practice is welcome. 👍

Your router change means nothing to GT5 other than you probably got slightly faster hardware and more buffer memory. 600 Megabit is the speed of 802.11n wireless when it can get signal on both antenna from a host which supports it.
The ps3 however does not have 802.11n support, so your ps3 is still dropping the access point into 802.11g mode for backward compatibility (which btw is 54 Megabit with good signal not 100). If you want to make your ps3 connection better the only thing to do is run a cat5 wire.

btw, if you're on wifi don't let anyone use your microwave while you're gaming. It puts out radiation on 2.4 ghz radio frequency which causes massive packet loss on 802.11g. You can also run a tool (I have a free one on my android called wifi analyzer) which will scan the nearby wifi showing you which channels are open. If your neighbors are running wifi on the same channel as you they will interfere; causing packet loss.

I dont need to make my PS3 connection better, as it is working like a charm. Anything that requires internet on my PS3 runs flawless, except for GT5 online play, specially after update 1.10. It got worse, so I believe its PD's problem.

Did the speedtest, got a grade of B. Download speed of 11Mb/s and upload speed of 2Mb/s. Again, it isnt my connection. It is the GT5 servers, you just have to be lucky during the race. Sometimes there is no lag, sometimes there is.

Cool. Now if you make sure everyone else's conection in the room is good then you'll be ok.

Just letting you (and anyone else that isn't aware) that upgrading your wireless access point will not upgrade your wireless ps3 connection. Consider it a friendly public service announcement.
I'm with you, the GT5 lobby servers are really spotty.

Your upload speed kind of blows monkey nuts. :yuck:

Crappy ping, Brosif.
P.S. You live in school? ;)

Or so they think... muuhahahahahhaaaahaha. :mischievous:

Lo, and in the 6th month the puppy discovered religion. And it was good.

...

seriously though... I had to call 5 Targets, 3 Home Depots, 2 Lowes, and 6 Wal*Marts to find that thing.
go go heat wave.

It's just as bad here in Ontario. Though apparently they're calling for rain for the rest of the week.

Out new provider actually went to this site when they installed our internet, and it was faster than the old one. Might not look that fast compared to others, but I've had no problems with it at all since we got it.
