I have to run to the store, but after that I can host a room. I'll probably start it as a tuning room, then convert it to racing once we get enough people. So expect a room in about 45 or so minutes from me.

I would be able to join the room. Ill see what cars i could find to test out. I think the Elise are pretty quick too. I remember the first night of racing that i joined, the Elise were pretty quick.

I haven't quite figured out the problem the "bigger" cars have. I agree that 2-3 seconds isn't easily removed with tuning, but I'm also afraid that changing the tire compound may make the gap worse. Just have to do some testing. I'll try to show up Tomcat.

I tuned many, many cars at the 450 level in GT5, at least 50. Pretty much anything worth tuning I gave a go. There is a performance gap among the cars without a doubt. The Elises, NSX'z, BRZ's are heads above the rest, often a second or two faster than almost every other car. The sportier a car is in real life the better it does under the PP system as I don't think they put much emphasis on grip and too much emphasis on torque in the PP system. There are several things you can do to combat this while still allowing people to use these cars once in a while.

1. Limit drivetrains for some races. Eliminating MR's for most races and only allowing them once or twice a night is a good way to achieve this.

2. Make the winner of each race retire that car for the evening so you don't have the same person winning in the same car over and over.

3. Eliminate certain cars if you feel they are too fast. Just make it a rule that you can't use an Elise or NSX etc. and everyone will get the hang of it.

Over time these things tend to work themselves out but you always have that one noob or one regular who just has to win and is always pulling out his 111R so you just have to deal with that on a case by case basis.

I'll try to join the tuning room a little later, if not I'll see you guys at the usual posted time :)

@BTK - by "problem", do you mean the car's handling when taking corners? I tend not to brake too late when I drive big, heavy,FR cars to nail the apex; otherwise it just slides and does not help much with lap times

I highly agree with you Johnny. Good points you've made.

Is anybody hosting a room right now? I would love to join in on this.

We've got a testing room open,

It's not so much the handling, it's the putting the power down. The smaller cars have a higher corner speed, which is where the bigger cars need to accelerate out of the turn and down straights faster. That or give them higher cornering speeds but the game will only do so much. They spin a lot easier making it harder to accelerate. It's the argument of, a lighter car that can use all of its horsepower versus the heavier more powerful car only using 60% of its horsepower. Which is better?

Well I have a car that can do trial mountain with sh in 1.39 territory probably go a sec faster with dome tuning. Think that's the kind of ball park performance so I was pleased with that.

I believe this would be the best way to go through. Maybe make a list of racers who have won and which cars they used. Maybe even not allowing the race winner to use that specific car for a period of time, maybe a few days or a week. Just food for thought.

@BTK you had to start typing right as I left lol. Anyway, good test. I'll be back in about an hour or so if it turns into a racing room.

Good test session, with a bunch of different ideas, we've found we just have to outlaw certain cars to make the racing close. I'm sure a few will be angry, but if you want to just drive the fastest car to win every race then find a different room. As far as keeping people from using the same car after a race, it will be extremely hard to do in a public room. IF we can get a big enough group that we can go private, then sure, we could have all kinds of rules. But will still take some trial and error.

Good racing last night it was good to get to tune/race the new truck I put together. Hopefully we can get some Monday night races going

had some good racing last night with @adeadsnipermatt , @Thermite , @Whiterice83 . 👍
But man, some of the random people that joined just couldn't do a proper race and willing to take out anyone just to pass. I think we need to go official eventually to keep things in order. I also agree with eliminating cars that are just too fast.

I know I'm a newer one here, but I just wanted to throw my thoughts out there... I think a good idea would be to keep the room public when we randomly want to get on and race with strangers. Doesn't matter if it's real serious or not, doesn't matter if they use their NSX until they win. This would be more like scouting for good drivers. Then invite anyone who we think is good enough to race in a friends-only room. That would still be at the posted times from page 1 of this thread and have the more restricted rules and regulations. So basically keep holding public rooms as a way to collect good drivers and help fill the friends-only rooms.

Hey guys since it's optional theme night who's up to make it 4WD only night. We can use some off road tracks every now and then. Who's up for it?

Did this happen? I was caught up in another room and couldn't make it, but 450PP dirt racing sounds fun!

Nah, it never ended up happening. Oddly enough, earlier today I was thinking about doing a theme night called 555-Four-Wheel Drive. I'm sure you guys can tell that it means 555PP 4WD cars only. :P

Yeah I couldn't get the room going we can try another time. Also what's so significant about the "555"?

I used to think I was lucky when hosting that I got relatively clean rooms but I soon realized it has everything to do with the host and setting the tone before the race starts. I usually type out or speak a few messages before I start a race or event something like this and it seems to work:

Okay guys keep it clean, leave lots of room in the first corner.
I will boot anyone that I think is driving wrecklessly and will quit the race to do so.
We're here for a good clean race, please respect your fellow drivers and avoid contact at all costs.

And you have to be quick with the hammer if you see someone being wreckless. If I see someone going into the first corner barrelling in with no regard for others, when the race is over he gets about 10 seconds to start typing and if he doesn't I just send him along his way. If he does start typing and the first words aren't something along the lines of, "So sorry about the first corner guys, missed the brake pedal" , then he's also gone. Being decisive sends a signal to the clean drivers that you'll take care of things and they'll stick around. I know when I'm in a room and a host does nothing about dirty driving I usually just leave because those rooms are always terrible to race in.
