Workers evacuated. Radiation levels 10 million times normal. ~ 1 Sievert.
This is at reactor 2.

This report says earlier reports of 10,000,000x radiation in the water were a mistake, but airborne radiation in Unit 2 measured 1,000 millisieverts per hour - four times the limit deemed safe by the government. Kyodo has a slightly different take: http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/81345.html

Are they gonna seal up the reactors Chernobyl style if all else fails?

Probably not. Sealing them up with concrete might result in later cracks and unwanted releases of radiation, and would interfere with engineer's desires to poke and probe in the remains to better determine the cause(s). I think they're in a long, drawn out battle to cool things down with water.

This post is a good example of the type of info we are getting. First one group says one thing, then someone else says another.. then another report says yet another. No wonder people don't know what exactly is going on there. If there is one pattern I see, it is Japanese dishonesty. Kind of like in GT5.

You might want to clarify exactly what you mean by the "one pattern you see" as I hope you don't mean it the way it reads on first blush.

With the ammount of faulty reactor and spent fuel rods it would take a mountain of led, concrete and steel and even there. I recommend the Tchernobyl documentary on you tube. The concern before entombing was to cool down the core elements and to prevent water to create a steam explosion. They had to dig under the plant to prevent the core to reach an acquafer that could have triggered a cataclysmic steam explosion.

At this point, most of Tchernobyl strategy are'nt gonna work.
Considering steam explosion, not 100% sure but i think fukushima's containment vessel has a built in system to remove water from getting to the core.

If the melting core of reactor 2 and/or 3 breach their containment vessels and reach seawater.. then.. well

Same panic stuff from last week, and nothing happen.

Thus far and following the current situation, nothing will happen, nuclear meltdown have been suggested so many times and nothing alike has happen, specially comparing it to Chernobyl which is ridiculous, the cooling down of the rods is currently under control, steam only suggest that water is getting into the cores which is the whole point of the cooling down operation.

the only plausible risk at the moment is the remote damaged caused by sea water(salt and debris)to the pumps, problem which is already solved by the delivery of water from nearby lakes, which reduces the percentages of salt water into the pumps and reactors.

Besides, what you want its cool down the reactor, then seal it,not seal it and make it do an explosion.

Stop looking at local media and watch NHK,they are better source of info, because they are informing, unlike international media like BBC who wants to make a great deal about it and get more audience, seriously.

NHK only really reports information that the government is releasing which is what TEPCO is releasing.

Not all Japanese people are dishonest, that's not what I meant. Yeah that sounded bad, but I do see a pattern of dishonesty.. I guess just because I never related dishonesty to them, I just noticed that. There are obviously dishonest people everywhere, in all countries.

@akiraacecombat

I suggest you do some homework.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a press conference the highly radioactive water found at the basement of the No. 2 reactor's turbine building is ''believed to have temporarily had contact with fuel rods (in the reactor's core) that have partially melted.''

The term partial meltdown makes me laugh, a bit.
If it partiality melt, that means it melt.
There's no such thing as a "partial" meltdown.

Perhaps he's thinking of something out of the China Syndrome where the melted core burps out the bottom of the container like some incandescent turd and sinks hissing and steaming into the groundwater?

That was awesome TVB. 👍 Love the car pics, love the cause behind it even more. Wish there were more car groups like you guys. :)

10 grand? That's awesome, TVB. 👍 I've donated money through PSN.

the term partial meltdown is exactly as it sounds, the rods have melted down partially instead of all the fuel in the reactor melting down and probably causing a core breach. Three mile island was another partial meltdown.

^ Thanks guys! I wish there will be more events like this in the near future!

driftking -> I also donated on PSN before the car show. :sly:

Props to you, your crew, and everyone who organized or participated in this event. $10,000 is very impressive, and yeah, very awesome pics. Thank you for posting them. 👍

Excellent job mate, and props to all your friends mate.

On aside note, the power shortages are starting to give some problems to the industries, specially the ones that produces organic aliments such as onigiri and bread, the problem is the shortage of the production process with organic ingredients, which affects the production of this kind of food, not that it creates massive shortages of food, but it does affects the people how makes such aliments, the same goes to the Tokyo lights, and Kanto areas in general,Shibuya street crossing looks very different from what they used to be,is quite shocking when you see it,I hope that they can get more power to the region.

What's with all the anime? Did they pay you to turn it off?

(just kidding, mad props.)

^ No, not at all!

-> In fact, since the event is called JDM. I'm trying to keep my JDM theme to the fullest! They were all at smiles when I was watching Clannad, since I'm the only "Anime Roadster" in the group. I could've brought more anime/manga stuff to the event...

:sly:

Omnis.

I was wondering about the anime thing too, but really, whatever floats your boat. :D:tup:

They need to bomb the Fukushima plant with cement as some wise guys have said, and i donated 50£ to the RedCross, the situation is calming down in Japan, pretty normal, the only problem is the nuclear plant.
