I think Houston is in for a long season. I don't think their starting pitching is on par with the rest of the central and I don't know where their runs are going to come from outside of Berkman, Tejada, and Rodriguez (and I think Tejada and Rodriguez are questionable).

Tim Lincecum had a bad day today... Infact a lot of aces did on opening day... (Webb, Halladay, Sabathia, Peavy Etc...) But, thanks to a 415 foot triple (Only in AT&T that's not a homerun!) that scored 3 runs in the first inning... Also Molina hit a bomb off the top of the wall (again homerun every where else) and later did hit a homerun. Rowand was the first homerun for the Giants with a bomb to left field 25 rows up! And also later Winn hit a 440 foot bomb to right center (You need about 425 to hit out there) for a solo shot. So in most parks we would have 5 homeruns, but 3 here in SF. And it was a bad day to hit homeruns as it was storming this morning/afternoon but it did clear up.

Wilson came in with 1 out to go in the 9th and through a 99mph fastball, 100 mph fastball and another 100 mph fastball for a strikeout to end the game. Hell yeah!! 10-6 over the Brewers was the final score. My god today was a great game to watch (I took the day off, but had a mild headache and poor sleep so I probably would of taken it off anyways.

Giants are totally different this year, and looks like Spring training might not be a fluke when it comes to our hitting. Can't wait for tomorrow nights game!

Also TS, you would be happy to hear that Johnson got a huge applause today before the game.

One down, 89 to go! Astros won 3-2 in 10 innings. Jeff Keppingher became the hero of the game as he banged in a base hit to vault the Astros over the Cubbies on a beautiful night here in Houston. The rubber game's tomorrow. Then after that, we take Thursday off and head up to St. Louis for a weekend series against the Cardinals.

And you know what? I like Ryan Dempster for the Chicago Cubs. He had solid pitching against my Astros. I'm not going to equate him to an NL Central version of the NL West's Brandon Webb or Tim Lincecum just yet.

Dempster has been around a long time. Spent a few years pitching for the marlins before moving on and coming to the cubs. Didn't really excel until the cubs stuck him in the closer role, but now he's back to being a starter. We'll see if he can stay consistent, which was one of the knocks against him when he was starting for the marlins.

Awesome. :D

What is not awesome is the D-Backs dropping the last 2 games against the Rockies, 3-0 last night and 9-2 this afternoon after a thrilling opener.

Dan Haren was solid last night, only made 1 bad bitch (he hung his signature cut fastball) to Troy Tulowitzki for a solo HR. From there, the young and wild bullpen let the Rocks tack on two more runs.

Today, Doug Davis had a decent outing giving up 4 runs in 6 innings but the **** hit the fan when Bob Melvin put a call to the pen to Billy Buckner who gave up 3 runs in 2 innings. Then the next inning Jon Rauch was on the mound, got 2 quick outs, but then the infield started dropping balls allowing the Rockies to score 2 unearned runs.

I have to wait till tomorrow for the Giants to take on the Brewers. I can't effing wait for Wednesday night. My dad and I are going to the game to see The Big Unit's first appearance in a real Giants game. I'm also happy that they said that Medders made the team!!! He pitched amazing this spring. I really hope Rowand and Renteria pick up the offense, if they can I think the Giants have a legit shot at the west title. I think all the teams in the west have a shot, except maybe the Padres as they are in the position the Giants were in last year.

But I think I'm going to watch the Dodgers/Padres game if its on TV.

Giants fan? Same... this year should be fun. I think that Renteria might bring a spark to the team... and Rowand's shot yesterday was no wimpy one... he might be in for a big year. I really think that the biggest contributors will be Sandoval and Ishikawa. I'm predicting 25 homers and 60-ish RBIs for each.. have fun at the game!

Maybe it's good I couldn't get to see this game on TV because this was damned ugly. We lost 11-6. Worst of which was that the Cubs led 4-0 in the first inning with no outs! Either the Cubs are freaking impressive, or my Astros are freaking depressing. It's just the first series in the first month, but I hope this doesn't continue.

Ishikawa is more of a 15-20... Who knows... Sandoval needs to learn how to linedrive it out and hes big pop up and contact hitter; Not so much a slugger, but he did beat some MLB sluggers in a Homerun Durby in Venezuela over this winter. Or was it last? Not sure but their is a video of it on youtube.

I think Rowand will 20 this year, and Lewis will hit 25 with his healthy foot. Renteria is certainly an offensive upgrade over Vizquel but he doesn't even come close to the 11 time gold glover.

The game was fun, and Johnson was pitching great, getting 5 or 6 strikeouts in 6 innings. But he gave up a HR to Cameron, and then a 3 run HR to Gallardo (pitcher!) It was a fat pitch which missed its location both times. Oh well, Johnson got 3 standing ovations last night and it was great to see so much respect for him. But the biggest applause was to Lincecum who revieved this Cy Young Award last night in a pre-game ceremony. It was great to see McCormik (Only other person to win it as a Giant) their to congratulate him, along with Zito and Johnson (Who was busy warming up.) Lincecum also did a touching little speech which was great to see.

Lastly, I'm just happy baseball is back. Got me a new hat, and hopefully going to get me a Sandoval or Ishikawa jersey this summer.

If there is any consolation to what happened to Adenhart and the other two motorists- The guy was caught, and California has a death penalty. :mischievous:

That's terrible news about the fatality of Nick Adenhart. My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, his friends, and the whole of Angels' fans.

No baseball for me tonight... just waiting for tomorrow night when we head to St. Louis. Really, this month of April is a key month as far as NL Central action is concerned. Only thing is that it's too early to predict playoff contenders at this point. I think we play at St. Louis this weekend, then have a set at beautiful PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Get out the broom,Tribe got swept in Texas today, losing by a score of 12 to 8.

Hopefully better luck will prevail for this weekends home opener against Toronto.

Yankees won today, and tomorrow they're in Kansas City, for what should be an easy win against Sidney Ponson and the Royals. I hope Pettitte pitches well. 👍

TS
Somebody finally signed Ponson?

When did this happen?

2009

Giants won 7-1 and Cain got the win. He pitched 7 innings, 4 hits 1 run 2 walks 5 strikeouts. He finally got run support which he hasn't been getting for 2 years now. He deserves the win!

Bad day for baseball... first Nick Adenhart and someone at the Angels stadium, but now Giants reliever Joe Martinez is in the hospital in critical condition thanks to a line drive to his for head off of Mike Cameron (CF for the Brewers.) Cameron could barely speak in an interview after the game in shock of what he did. Hopefully Joe can recover but its to early to tell at this moment.

D-Backs start a 3 game series against the Dodgers tonight, John Garland will take the mound for the snakes and James McDonald will be on the hill for LA.

EDIT: Brandon Webb will be scratched from his start Saturday.

Astros will hit the road this weekend, to the site of this year's MLB All-Star game- St. Louis and New Busch Stadium. Astros are 1-2 so far. They'll have to try and ground the Cardinals any way they can. The series even includes my Astros showing their faces on the 2009 debut of the MLB on FOX tomorrow afternoon.

Come on, Astros! Let's make some NL Central noise!

So? It's not going to bring him back.

Anyway, WOO Marlins! 4-0 for the first time in club history.

Not enough in the tank... Houston couldn't make a rally good enough to ground the Cardinals as they lost 5-3. Houston needs to show they can win tough games, so that's why I think they need to win on FOX Saturday afternoon to show that they are at least NL Central contenders rather than the "rudderless organization" FOX Sports said about my Astros last year.

ESPN and FOX are usually the "always hate Houston" networks, though ESPN is worse.

I thought hitting for the cycle means single, double, triple, and home run. Later this afternoon, the Astros are going to get their shine on when they meet up against Syracuse in an effort to force a rubber game for Sunday.

Let's get it, Astros!

Don't you mean St. Louis John?

A game that the Astros unfortunately lost 11-2.

Yeah... got college on the brain. Sorry. It is the first few games of the new year, but that was sad. Roy Oswalt is now 0-2. I think the Astros are one of those second-half teams in which they lose often early... only to get better in the second half. Somewhat like procrastinating through a season, but that's been our personality.

And yet again, we get our behinds beat on national TV. Can't we win one for a damned change?

From one beautiful National League stadium... to another in two years! Should be fun at lovely Chase Field.
