I'm hoping that means we are keeping Scherzer now.
Which was really made clear when Fielder was traded. If the Tigers DON'T sign him after all this, then they fail at everything.

A's acquire Jim Johnson from the Orioles for Jemile Weeks.

Jim wasn't too good last year, but I expected some more.

Okay, so what should I go over first today?
RP Joe Nathan signs 2 year deal with Detroit Tigers.
Colorado Rockies CF Dexter Fowler traded to Houston Astros for OF Brandon Barnes and SP Jordan Lyles.
San Diego Padres RP Luke Gregerson traded to Oakland Athletics for OF Seth Smith.
Texas Rangers OF Craig Gentry and RP Josh Lindblom traded to Oakland Athletics for OF Michael Choice and 2B Chris Bostick.
C AJ Pierzynski signs with Boston Red Sox.
Cincinnati Reds C Ryan Hanigan traded to Tampa Bay Rays in a 3 team trade including the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reds acquired LHP David Holmberg from Arizona, Diamondbacks acquired RHP Justin Choate from Tampa Bay. Rays also acquired LHP Heath Bell from Arizona.
Jacoby Ellsbury signs 7 year deal worth $153 MM with the New York Yankees.

Meanwhile here in Houston, we picked up OF Dexter Fowler in exchange for our Brandon Barnes and Jordan Lyles. I think this is a good trade for both teams. Lyles is a very good pitcher when he was wearing Astros colors. Best wishes to him with the Rockies.

I hate that Hanigan got traded. He was an excellent play caller behind the plate and was one of the best in the league at throwing out base runners. He caught both of Bailey's no-no's. I just can't see Mesoraco matching his defensive play. Offensively, Hanigan had a rough season this year, but for the most part was extremely patient at the plate and could consistently come up with a clutch hit up the middle to drive in runs while with the Reds. Mesoraco may have power, but he needs to be much more patient at the plate and gain some consistency. Oh, and he needs to read "Base Running for Dummies" if such a book exists. He always looked lost out there when attempting to round the bases this season. I just hope he's able to improve (he is young, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now).

And I don't know anything about this Holmberg guy. But it'll be nice to have another lefty on the roster, assuming he's decent. Hey, R1600Turbo, do you know anything about him?

In other news, Texas is likely not going to get alot of production from the catcher next season. The only catchers left that come to mind are Kurt Suzuki and JP Arencibia.

We didn't go after Pierzynski, Salty is gone, and Hanigan seemed interesting. Now what?

Also, Brian Wilson is close to re-signing with the Dodgers.

Why do the Rockies trade their good players for prospects, develop those prospects until they're good, then trade them for more prospects? I mean God Damn. It's really hard to be a fan of a team that has god awful upper management, at least as far as baseball operations are concerned.

Sounds a lot like what the Pirates had done the past 20 odd years. Hopefully Colorado doesn't continue down that path. :scared:

Edit: Or maybe they'll be like the Marlins. Build up a team, win the '97 World Series, then tear it down. Build it back up again, win the '03 World Series, then tear the team down again. Then they tried it again, but it failed miserably this time.

A steal for the Astros.

This trade is what my rant was referring to. Dex is a great player. As were Barmes, Holliday, Eric Young Jr, Ubaldo Jimenez, Chris Nelson, and Seth Smith.
Didn't Colorado just cut EYJr. because they had too many OF? Either way I'm glad that the Mets got him..... and now will completely misuse him and place him to play on the bench. Should be in LF with Lagares in CF and Chris Young in RF, but the Mets want Granderson so either Lagares (who despite his young age was one of the most impressive fielding OF last year and was in the leader in OF assists in only 116 games) or Young will be on the bench, Den Dekkar will be further delayed.

Young is bunk.

Rafael Furcal to the Marlins, for 1 year unknown amount.

Also, Masahiro Tanaka might not be posted this offseason, according to Yozo Tachibana, owner of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

According to a source, Robinson Cano to the Mariners. 10 years, $240 million. Wow.
Which was floated 2 days ago but only official now. Seattle overpays for Cano but this deal is a more glaring problem to the Yankees.

And now, Curtis Granderson to the Mets. 4 years $60 million.

Marlins closing in on 1B Garret Jones, Rangers closing in on JP Arencibia.

Other done deals:
-Edward Mujica to the Red Sox. 2yrs $9.5 million.
-Phil Hughes to the Twins. 3 years $24 million.
-Brian Wilson re-signs with the Dodgers. 1 year $10 million with $8.5 million option for 2015.
-Scott Feldman to the Astros. Reportedly 3 years $30 million.
-Brewers trade Norichika Aoki to the Royals in exchange for Will Smith.

Until they trade him halfway through the year when they decide they don't want to pay for him anymore. If this time they are actually trying to build a contender, more power to them, but I'm very skeptical. I long for the year when the Mariners and Rockies become contenders.

The Astros signed pitcher Scott Feldman to a three-year contract. He played previously for the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.

Don't think you'll get much out of him if he's a starter. He pitched great for the most part during his 7 years here in Texas, but in 2012 he kind of dropped off a bit. I haven't kept up with him since he left, but I do believe he's past his prime. Who knows, it might be a good option.

ESPN Source: Yankees are open to trading OF Brett Gardner as a main centerpiece during the Winter meetings to address a lot of help issues for the team. The team needs help with 2B, 3B, Starting pitching and the bullpen. The team can also give up OF Ichiro Suzuki and OF Vernon Wells.

I can see teams lining up from the Yankees table at the winter meetings to the carpet right in front of the table of the Yankees at the winter meetings to trade for Ichiro and Wells. I can't think of players less desirable than those 2.

Roy Halladay signs a 1 day contract with the Blue Jays, so he can retire a Blue Jay.

HOF worthy?
