Game 3 of 4 of HOU at BAL was played out. This game ended up being a 12-2 beat down courtesy of the Houston Astros. Either we will win this series or the Baltimore Orioles will get a split depending on how the finale on Sunday goes. Meanwhile, Houston's winning pitcher was Mike Fiers. The O's losing pitcher was Chris Tillman.

Elsewhere...

I learned that Carlos Gomez, formerly of the Houston Astros, is now a Texas Ranger. Gomez signed a minor league contract with the Rangers. So as if the Rangers need any further confidence, Carlos Gomez may end up screwing over my Astros a good bit more. Yay.

Congratulations to Saturday's other winners, including the Mets smacking the San Francisco Giants in San Francisco.

After a rain delay of about 4 hours and 5 minutes (officially), the Astros and Orioles wrapped up their four-game series. We ended up taking the series 3 out of 4 with a 5-3 victory today. Dallas Keuchel picked up the win and got a Save from Ken Giles as part of the winning Astros tandem. For Baltimore, Yovani Gallardo was the losing pitcher. We are now 64-60 on the season.

Up next for the Houston Astros... we're going to the Steel City to entertain the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games at PNC Park (one of my personal favorite ballparks). Or in GTPlanet speak, a little inner-forum rivalry. JohnBM01's Astros at Iforcev8's Pittsburgh Pirates. Before 2013, this would be an NL Central division match. But this is an Interleague game in today's MLB since we moved from the NL Central to the AL West.

Congratulations to Sunday's other winners, including the Detroit Tigers doubling up the visiting Boston Red Sox behind the winning Justin Verlander.

I was amazed that the offense remembered how to offense. The Tigers bats had been virtually non-existent for days now prior to that game.

Recently wrapped up... the Los Angeles Dodgers must have been ticked off badly because they trashed the Cincinnati Reds 18-9 in Cincy today. Jesse Chavez was the winning pitcher for LAD. Homer Bailey was the CIN loser. That's got to hurt being doubled up this bad.

It was 3-1 in Pittsburgh tonight as the Houston Astros picked up the win at the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win for HOU went to Doug Fister along with a Save from Ken Giles. Jameson Taillon was the loser for the Buccos. Back at it tomorrow in the Steel City at lovely PNC Park.

As a lighthearted note, the Pittsburgh Pirates had some pretty cool uniforms on Sunday. Kind of like some Charlie Brown action with those yellow and black uniforms. But to be fair... at least they are better than the bumblebee outfits the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers are somehow federally mandated by law to wear each NFL season.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners.

I'm think I'm actually glad I had to work and missed the game today. A 18-9 drubbing? I couldn't watch yesterday's game either, a 4-0 defeat. At least we took the first two games, so it ended in a split.

Recent breaking news is that the Texas Rangers released Josh Hamilton. I think I also read on ESPN's Bottom Line that the Detroit Tigers shipped off Bobby Parnell.

Other than these news bits, enjoy some baseball today and tonight! Good luck to all of your teams.

Recent breaking news is that the Texas Rangers released Josh Hamilton.

I wonder if he'll ever play ball again given his history with problems and health issues.

Iforcev8's Pittsburgh Pirates pounded my Astros 7-1 tonight in Pittsburgh. The winner of this one was Ivan Nova for PIT. My Astros' losing pitcher was Joe Musgrove. So tomorrow night's game will be the Rubber Game of this series. Oh, and we saw our four-game winning streak get snapped after this loss. And if that's not bad enough, Luis Valbuena will require surgery and will be out for the season. So our offense is going to take a real hit the rest of the way.

Congratulations to Tuesday's other winners, including the Cincinnati Reds blanking the Texas Rangers in Cincy.

One more time in Pittsburgh. The Rubber Game of this series wrapped up on this Wednesday afternoon, and the Houston Astros won this game and this series with a 5-4 score over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The victory for HOU was Collin McHugh picking up the win and getting a Save from Ken Giles. For the Buccos, PIT's losing pitcher was Gerrit Cole. Nice little series between my Astros and your Pirates, Iforcev8. Good luck to the Pirates the rest of the way.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... after taking tomorrow off, we're hosting the Tampa Bay Rays for a weekend series here in H-Town.

No other games went final as of this post, but congratulations to all other winners from Wednesday's games.

Friday night in H-Town and a three-game series between the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays. Trailing 4-3 heading into the Bottom of the 9th, we ripped back-to-back jacks to defeat the Rays 5-4. Getting the win for HOU was Ken Giles. Alex Colomé was Tampa Bay's losing pitcher.

Congratulations to Friday's other winners, including a Bronx beat down the New York Yankees put on the visiting Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets routing the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.

Why haven't we started Gary Sanchez before this fiasco of a season? 8 HRs in 9 games!

Ken
Why haven't we started Gary Sanchez before this fiasco of a season? 8 HRs in 9 games!
Because that makes sense and managers forget that making sense provides results at times. Just like the Tigers waiting till only a few days ago to bench Upton. He probably would have been way better if he would have been benched earlier.

The AL Wild Card is a warzone right now. A lot of upcoming games will have a major impact on the race for the Wild Card. Seven teams realistically in contention and a couple more are longshots that could in theory go on a tear to force themselves right into the thick of it.

Final score here in Houston was 6-2, in favor of the Houston Astros. The Tampa Bay Rays fell again in this series. My man and reigning AL Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel was the winner for Houston. Blake Snell was Tampa Bay's loser.

* It may be safe to say that Gary Sanchez of the New York Yankees is the AL version of Trevor Story. He went yard again to help his Yanks win in another Bronx beat down- 13-5 this time. Tommy Layne was the NYY winner. It was Dylan Bundy who lost for BAL.

* 8-3 was the final at Fenway Park in Boston, and it was the Red Sox who defended home nicely against the defending champion Kansas City Royals. The price was right as David Price picked up the win for BOS. Danny Duffy failed today and took the loss for KC.

* Dolph Drago would probably give you more specifics, but I learned that Reds are not afraid of snakes. Just ask the Arizona Diamondbacks on getting blanked 13-0 today in their house. Mr. Anthony DeSclafani was CIN's winner; and Zack Godley took the loss for ARI.

* It was 12-1 in Flushing, New York as the New York Mets whacked the Philadelphia Phillies in NL East play. Noah Syndergaard and his flowing blonde hair won for the Mets. Having to take this whacking was PHI's loser, Jeremy Hellickson.

* AnthonyD1993 and Joey D's Detroit Tigers failed to take down the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim today. It was a sad day in MoTown as the Tigers lost 3-2 to LAA. Jhoulys Chacin was the winner for LAA. Fernando Salas got the save for LAA. For Detroit, Michael Fulmer was the losing pitcher.

* The closest game of the day was between San Diego at Miami, and it was the Padres who took down the Miami Marlins 1-0. Clayton Richard got the win for SD, and Kevin Quackenbush got the Save. José Ureña was the loser for MIA.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday.

The finale of this TB at HOU series went with authority to Tampa Bay. When I first followed the game, we were down 4-3 in the Middle of the 5th. We ended up losing 10-4. Tampa Bay was probably sick that they lost this series, so they did something about it. And with authority, they did. So your winning pitcher for TB was Chris Archer. Doug Fister ended up with the loss for HOU.

Up next for the Houston Astros... we go from hosting an AL East opponent to an AL West opponent as the Oakland Athletics come on down to H-Town.

Congratulations to Sunday's other winners, including 5-0 wins by two road teams- Baltimore's win at the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim win at Detroit. I know this is the Major League Baseball thread, but congratulations to New York on defeating South Korea 2-1 in the 2016 Little League Baseball World Series. It is the first win by a USA team in the Little League World Series since 2011.

This new series is the Oakland Athletics at the Houston Astros. TOUCHDOWN ASTROS! Or in the words of Marc Vandermeer of Houston Texans' radio, "rock and roll! TOUCHDOWN ASTROS!" Anyhow- 6-0 win at home against the A's. The winner for Houston was Joe Musgrove. The losing Oakland pitcher was Sean Manaea.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners, including extra inning walk-off wins by the New York Mets and Cleveland.

I turned off the Tigers game after I saw one of the Wilsons come in for Detroit and then looked later to see they won with a 2 run shot from Salty. Well then.....

We are the latest members of the 70-win club. Win #70 for us is a 3-1 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics. The Houston Astros Baseball Club's winning pitcher tonight was Collin McHugh, and Ken Giles picked up the Save. Oakland's losing pitcher was Kendall Graveman. Tomorrow afternoon is the finale of this series between OAK at HOU.

Congratulations to Tuesday's other winners, including Detroit doubling up the Chicago White Sox in MoTown.

In another example of managers and management in baseball doing thing that don't make sense, the Tigers brought up JaCoby Jones a few days ago. With how he's played, he should have been here much sooner. He's ben a huge impact in the past few wins and had a huge double in the top of the 9th that helped the team beat the White Sox today with a a final score of 3-2.

Other than Jones, the big story of the game was the Verlander vs. Sale matchup. Both players got NDs for their efforts, but Chris Sale (IMO) won the duel because he outlasted Justin Verlander and also allowed minimal damage when Detroit got to him. Justin allowed two solo shots and one of them was to former Tiger Alex Avila of all people. Not that Justin's effort was bad, it's that Sale's was better. But of course, it's a team game, and today, the Tigers were the better team.

And the AL Wild Card is still a war zone. It's going to be mayhem for the rest of the season.

Not sure how we did it, but we did it. The Oakland Athletics were ahead of my Astros 3-1 for most of the game. We ended up winning this game 4-3 to sweep the A's. HOU's winning pitcher was Michael Feliz, and Feliz got a Save from Ken Giles. Liam Hendriks was the Oakland loser. Houston is now 71-62 on the season.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... we get Thursday off but begin a critical seven-game road trip. Our next opponent is almost must-win for the Astros because we're at the Texas Rangers for the weekend in a three-game set. AL West probably out of our grasp, but at least a series win will help. Looking ahead afterwards, we got four games at the Cleveland Indians. The Astros are going to have to win both series to help our postseason cause. Challenging, but not impossible. We'll see what happens.

Meanwhile, congratulations to the other winners from Wednesday.

This is the final full month of regular season baseball. To my recollection, nobody has officially clinched anything or has been officially eliminated from the postseason. My Houston Astros are off today. So to make myself even remotely useful, I'm providing a status update. Find your favorite team(s) here based on teams' records heading into today's/tonight's games:

---AMERICAN LEAGUE ---
AL EAST: Toronto (76-57), BOS (74-59), BAL (72-61), NYY (69-63), TB (56-76)
AL CENTRAL: Cleveland (65-56), DET (72-61), KC (69-64), CHW (63-69), MIN (49-84)
AL WEST: Texas (80-54), HOU (71-62), SEA (68-65), LAA (59-74), OAK (57-76)
AL WILD CARD (Top 5): Boston, Baltimore and Detroit, HOU (1 back), NYY (2.5 back)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE ---
NL EAST: Washington (78-55), NYM (69-64), MIA (67-66), PHI (60-73), ATL (50-83)
NL CENTRAL: Chicago Cubs (85-47), STL (70-62), PIT (67-64), MIL (57-76), CIN (55-77)
NL WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers (74-59), SF (72-60), COL (64-69), ARI (56-77), SD (55-77)
NL WILD CARD (Top 5): San Francisco, St. Louis, NYM (1.5 back), PIT (2.5 back), MIA (3.5 back)

Stay in the hunt! As long as your team(s) have a chance, there is still some hope remaining. Even the top teams may stumble to where what would be a postseason ticket ends up with them missing everything and have to settle for next season. This season isn't over.

Good luck to all of your favorite teams moving forward.

After such a strong month coming off the All Star Break, the Reds dropped 2 of 3 to Arizona and got swept by the Angels this past week. So much for our momentum. In that time period, we scored 3, 13!, 2, 2, 2 and 0 runs. Aside from the anomaly that was game 2 against the D'backs, the offense has been nearly nonexistent. However, with the exception of two games, our pitching has continued to stay fairly strong.

Today is a day of rest for the Redlegs ballclub. Then we welcome (or boo) in the Cardinals YET AGAIN. That'll be 3 series in a month against them, which I'm pretty tired of. :banghead: We then invite the Mets in for 3, head out to steel country to take on the Pirates, and come back home for another 3 against the Brew Crew, who have retaken 4th from us in the NL Central.

On Twitter, I somewhat know the Texas Rangers won when the hashtag "#HelloWinColumn" shows up in my Twitter feed as a trending topic. Then again, I didn't need Twitter to find out my Astros lost 10-8 at the Texas Rangers tonight. I'm not expecting a series win of any kind at Texas unless they get bored and LET us win. The winner for Texas was A.J. Griffin and a Save from Sam Dyson. Houston's losing pitcher was Doug Fister.

Congratulations to all other winners from Friday, including walk-off magic by the Cincinnati Reds hosting the St. Louis Cardinals.

The not-yet-2016-AL-West-Champions Texas Rangers meat grinded my Astros today. We got tripled up- 12-4 win for the Texas Rangers. Derek Holland was the TEX winner, and Joe Musgrove was HOU's loser. This series wraps up tomorrow afternoon in Arlington, TX.

Congratulations to Saturday's winners, including the New York Mets taming the Washington Nationals in Queens.

Did the Astros get swept by the Texas Rangers? The answer is... no. We managed to do what rarely happens- beat the Rangers. It was a football-like score of 7-6 that Houston won by. Chris Devenski was Houston's winner, and the Save went to Giles. Bad boy Yu Darvish was the loser for Texas.

Up next for the Houston Astros... this brutal stretch of games continue with a four-game set at the Cleveland Indians. At least we get to come back home after this at Cleveland series.

Congratulations to Sunday's other winners, including other playoff contenders avoiding getting swept. Also, happy 75th birthday to Ken "Hawk" Harrelson- you know, the Chicago White Sox fellow famous for saying "he gone" and "...and you can put it on the boooooard! Yes!"

While the Reds didn't sweep the Cardinals, I was pleasantly surprised we were able to at least take the series.

I can already see what's going to happen though. The Cards are going to barely slip into the playoffs via the second wildcard, then go on to win it all. :grumpy:

Maybe not. Nobody really wants it but it's down to two teams at this point. If the Mets make it I will be stunned.

Speaking of the Mets, we got ourselves a little inner-forum rivalry with Dolph Drago's Cincinnati Reds hosting Blitz24's New York Mets. The Metropolitans won 5-0 today at the Redlegs. "Big Sexy" Bartolo Colon was the winner for NYM. The CIN losing pitcher was Robert Stephenson.

Meanwhile, my Astros will continue their brutal stretch of games with a four-game set starting tonight at the Cleveland Indians.

Good luck to all of your teams, and congratulations to all winners on this Labor Day Monday.

Robert Stephenson didn't pitch all that badly in his first game back up with the expanded rosters. 5.1 innings of 2 run baseball ain't too shabby. His only runs given up were both solo shots. Add to that he had only 1 walk and 9 strikeouts, and you're talking about a pretty good game. Unfortunately, Alfredo Nood...err, Simon came in and sucked majorly, just like he did before he went on the disabled list awhile back. Speaking of which, a buddy of mine texted me he saw Simon in the bar he was at last night. I told my friend to go over and tell Simon to go back on the DL. I guess that message never got to him. Aside from that terribleness, Stephenson wasn't helped by the fact that the offense put up a big 'ol goose egg on the scoreboard. It's either 12 runs or nothing from this team right now.
