Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Giving up for today.

I could probably manage to get into another few races but it's not worth the hassle.

Whoever developed GT's networking needs to take a hard look at themselves. I can't think of any other game where everyone exists in an independent reality, where some people are invisible to others, and the game continues as if it's perfectly normal. For heaven's sakes! How is anyone supposed to play when that's such a common occurance?

Edit: Trying one last hope.

 Did the room explode after the last race or was it just me?

Anyway, pity that network issues were rife. People who could normally see each other just fine were having issues, just a big tangle of clogged intertoobs today. ><

No results from today will be officially logged.

Good racing when we weren't wrestling with interweb daemons. Thanks all for your patience today -- I know mine finally snapped at the end there when I started having visibility issues too!

Here's to far fewer issues at the next outing. 👍

From what I experienced I can tell this can be really fun, when things actually work out. Looking forward to the next one. In the mean time, I'll experiment with router settings, etc.

Otherwise, since I'm impressed with the way this system works and how well coordinated it is, I was wondering if any of you had ideas for, or any interest in the Magic Lap club I created a while back. It sort of died out due to lack of interest, and since then I've been trying to figure out how to make it more accessible. It's meant to be less serious than most races, with finishing positions pretty much ignored, and that might actually be turning people away.

If you have a chance to look through how it works and give me some opinions, I'd love to hear them. I'm looking to make it easier for people to calculate things on their own so I don't have to tell everyone everything, but it's tricky stuff.

We stopped the races after Motegi, as we had tons of invisibility issues and time was running out. Everybody had those at some time, can't make a sense out of that either.
One thing everybody can do to improve networking is to attach the PS3 with an ethernet cable. 👍
Let's hope it will be better next time... :nervous:

Maybe we could post results of the July 15 races? I did okay placing third on a Nordschleife race, I recall...

Sorry, I've been a bit busy lately. Will do after today's races, my apologies.

Today's Races!

Sorry guys, but a spontaneous invite to barbecue by the neighbors and too much beer prevented me racing yesterday.

See you all at the Track Day on Friday!

So, apparently, Autumn Ring might not have a pit entry speed limit. I kinda just assumed that every track does. I didn't have to slow down much to get my speed down to 50 mph, but if there was no speed limit, having an extra 5 mph or so going in probably could have saved me the extra time I lost with that pit stop. Looking here, it seems that different tracks have different pit entry speed limits, and sometimes, the speed limit depends on what car you're driving. Or, maybe that really is just Daytona Int'l Speedway. In-game, the speed limit is only mentioned once in a certain career event. Aside from repeated testing, there doesn't seem to be a way to know what the speed limit is, or if there is one for the track you're on. Slowing down to 50 mph when you don't have to is basically the same as receiving that 10-second penalty, or worse, on some tracks. You'd think PD would be kind enough to provide pit entry speed limits with the track info.

Anyway, I still had a good time in that race. I really would have liked to have been able to join you guys for Sierra as well. I'm sure I would have done better there than at Red Bull Ring. So, how do you guys normally deal with pit entry? Do you guys already have a handy list (like the one I just found), or do you just kinda guess?

...Slowing down to 50 mph when you don't have to is basically the same as receiving that 10-second penalty, or worse, on some tracks.

Uhm, no. It costs nowhere near as much time to brake from, say, 200km/h to a sensible pit lane entry speed just before control is shifted to autopilot. Actually, sometimes if you go into the pit lane without braking, you crash in autopilot-mode and lose more time than when you brake yourself.

So, how do you guys normally deal with pit entry? Do you guys already have a handy list (like the one I just found), or do you just kinda guess?

I try pit entry at least once before the race, if I know I will have to pit, notice the autopilot-speed when it takes over (it sometimes even accelerates before the actual pit lane speed limited zone starts when you come in slow), and then I try to adapt my braking point to the "takeover"-point and the speed approximately to one at which the autopilot wouldn't have to do any more braking. Then you can be reasonably sure that you will not get any pit penalty.

And if I brake at pit entrance and somebody smashes into me, because they're going into the pits at full throttle, I do take offense. :irked:

Thanks, @snowgt :) As for the time cost thing, it's possible that that only really applies to limbo stick on tracks that have a longer pit entry, like we had yesterday. My pit stop seemed to take at least ten seconds longer than everyone else's, and I'm pretty sure none of us needed any fuel. Maybe it wasn't really that much longer, but it felt like it. I'd have to check the replay to be sure, but that race is done and over, so I'm really just trying to figure things out for my next endurance race.

@Handlebar: Yes, Track Day is the next event this week. I'm just wondering if we're starting the States of Matter Cup for this one, or if that will start later.

Check the replay, I did not slow down going into the pits, I pulled in right after amar and our pit times seemed similar to me. Also I did not get fuel and the pit didn't take longer than I thought it should, so I don't think there was a penalty. Is there a possibility that PD has put in differing pit times to simulate different pit crews taking longer/ shorter, if PD did something like this I'm sure they would find a way to screw it up and have people taking too long to pit.

I plan on trying to make Track Day.

I am helping my mother-in-law with a plumbing problem, so if I get a call to help explain/listening to the repairman for her, I will need to go. She's 89, so I definitely want to hear things firsthand, rather than have her recount it to me...

Been a busy week, sorry for the delay in posting results.

Big Fun yesterday, i promise to prepare the backlog of results this weekend. :embarrassed: And check the status Low Power list(s)...

That Volvo at Stowe... Is a Volvo goin' Slowe....
Hey, you could make a limerick out of that: 👍

At Shuffle there was a Swede
who hopped into an Estate.
That Volvo at Stowe
was a Volvo going slowe
But the Finn standing still was slower

All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons is purely coincidental.

:sly:

What is your PSN. Did we race together yesterday?
I only joined in for the last two races and I never saw 'HandlebarMustash'.
Yes, he left after the first three races, so you missed each other.
Coincidently he also got the Volvo in the first race at Stowe. :D On a straighter track you can plow through the field with the 240 GLT, but at Stowe it's hard to play out it's strength...

I was amazed at how well the Volvo did at the start - I was at the back of the grid, and as we reached the first hairpin-like corner, I was movin' on up.

Everything after that was... going the opposite direction, from better to worse... and worse... and slower. At least I wasn't getting 'intimate' with other cars at that point.

I am pretty sure I saw Jocke - I saw 7 when there were 7 on track.

But I'm not a Swede... (All Grandparents were Norwegian... so it's close).

The Volvo is probably one of most powerful cars in the Low Power list. However, it is very large and heavy. So, out of all of the cars in the Low Power list, it's among the best at climbing hills and going straight kinda fast, but you'll really have to wrestle with it around the corners. It can be especially problematic around downhill corners as well. Stowe is easily the worst layout of Silverstone to race the Volvo at. Looking only at just how the cars compare, you probably would have won if the race had been at either of the other layouts.
