Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Question about shuffle racing, we do one race to set a grid and then whatever position you finish in is the car number from the list that you will use the next race, correct?

Yes, that's the basic formula. The lists are prepared so that the cars are faster towards the higher numbers. That way a balanced racing is possible where everyone has a chance to win eventually. On the other hand it's a little unfair towards the faster racers as they are thrown into slower cars but all this is done for a fun experience for everyone. It's basically unfair racing biased towards fun! :D

I wouldn't say it's necessarily unfair. Maybe it depends on the track, but a more-skilled driver should have no problem driving a slow car just as fast as a less-skilled driver in a faster car. However, we occasionally find an alien, who can pilot a crap heap at an order of magnitude faster than some of the other cars, and wins nearly every race.

after trying the Tomahawk X Nürburgring TT madness yesterday (is it a car? is it a plane?) i'm happy to choose
I got that car up to 463 mph in a draft. It is literally as fast as a fighter jet, even in the corners. Well, it's as fast as a fighter jet that is pulling combat maneuvers. Flying around the Nurburgring in 4:40.XXX was absolutely terrifying, and, oddly enough, my biggest problem was too much grip. It doesn't work too well with a standard controller.

Yes, i exaggerated a bit with the unfair, but shuffling is open to all skill levels and challenging for everyone because of the skewed car assignment. I love the challenge of coming to grips with the unique handling of all the cars -- let's me appreciate PD's work of modeling so many cars with all their special traits. And all that combined with the constant learning to race and battle cleanly and trying to use the car's strong points makes it a rewarding challenge for me almost every race. :D

I didn't even manage to get a clean lap, at that speed it's hard to enter a curve correctly and every correction happens too late and needs more corrections leading to flying off the track. Extreme low-altitude flight...

Yea, it is frustrating. Tried again yesterdy and did one panic stop to keep on tarmac but few turns later touched grass and spun out..

Anywho, ever since seeing this list in the Mixer Testing thread, i have had this thought of racing these with Parity assignments:

TrackDay Specials

Single Race maybe? Sprint and Endurance with reverse grid?

Interested?

It might work as an entry level to Mixer racing for new drivers because you would only need one car or 1-3 if you are new...

Just a thought 👍

Sure, we could do one test race at the Shuffle Track Day on Friday. 👍 These car lists are not finished yet, so expect some strangeness.
Parity racing would be cool to enter Shuffle, but you need to do some shuffle racing to get a parity rating, so it's a chicken and egg problem really. :dunce:

I've been thinking of a new Spec Racing idea lately: The State of Matter Cup! It's 4 races inspired by the states of matter:
  • Solid/Ice : a snow race
  • Liquid/Water: a rain race :dopey:
  • Gas/Vapor: a decent weather race or one with fog :mischievous:
  • Plasma: a night race or a kart race @ Kart Space with neon lights
The format could be used with some hand picked cars for each race, or doing shuffle races. We could try it out next week on Friday, and switch between this and the Track day every week. What do you think?

Just under two hours from now.

I might be able to make this, are we using the rules under "League Series Racing" in the OP for this?

I hadn't even realized there was still testing going on, turns out that thread disappeared from my alerts months ago... Anyway, I like that idea.

My plans to race with you guys got ruined at the last second again:banghead: Anyway, I will definitely be there on Friday, but I will have to leave early. And then, I will go on vacation where I will have no Internet or anything for nearly a week. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so difficult to chill with friends online on a normal day. And to think, I went and worked on my drifting to practice my car control for today's event (just in case I got something squirley again). I even set a new personal record here!

Now it's official!
Next Friday, the 17 July the State of Matter Cup goes live! :dopey:

There's even this flashy banner to wet your appetite:

StateOfMatterCup16x10.png

State of Matter Cup Premiere is on Friday, 17 July, 18:30 GMT:
  • Solid - Volkswagen New Beetle RS¡ '00 @ Chamonix East, Snow tires, 10 laps
  • Liquid - Toyota 2000GT '67 @ Midfield, 100% Weather, CS tires, 10 laps
  • Gas - Ferrari GTO '84 @ Ascari, SM tires, 6 laps
  • Plasma - Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 @ Kart Space I, 20 laps
See you there!

:gtpflag:

BTW: this Friday 10 July is Track Day and we will be testing the Track Day Specials preliminary list. Be sure to buy the cars in the list and don't forget to change oil. :) Other than that we'll be racing the Hot Hatches, Limbo Stick and Performance Coupés lists.

Five riders of the apocalypse spotted in Kusabis leaving behind only scorched earth, fear and devastation...

Morale: 5 cars cannot take the same corner side-by-side... :P

New lists look good, need some more credit, buy all of them:D
