Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Shocking Footage!
Yks41GuYDpzoYFQU0t_0.jpg

Five riders of the apocalypse spotted in Kusabis leaving behind only scorched earth, fear and devastation...

Morale: 5 cars cannot take the same corner side-by-side... :P

Yeah, that was fun!

Yeah, lot's of goodies! :D But it'll take a while until they get official... :(

That S2K that @terrordog1490 was driving was very underpowered compared to the Skylines and Zs at top. Also I would have preferred the cars with SH or even CS. But I am just crazy that way :D

I'd like to get involved in this. Let me know what's cooking and what's coming up next, so I can prepare.

I also had some ideas from a while back that I wonder if I could get on paper. There's an indefinable category of cars like the GNX, Carlton, '87 Skyline, etc. that I can only think to call the "Black Boxes". Interestingly, they all seem to have pretty similar times based on SuzukaStar's data.

Whoops, I was meaning to post this stuff days ago....

I'd like to get involved in this. Let me know what's cooking and what's coming up next, so I can prepare.

Just happened to post the next two week's schedules right above, didn't see your post beforehand (hence the double post).

Please refer to this Spreadsheet for list orderings and information; the lists in the OP are a little out of date. We can't edit those in the temporary absence of our series founder.

Series 26 on Wednesdays will be using only the lists Performance Coupés, Hot Hatches and Limbo Stick. Series 25 will be using only the lists Traffic, Legends and 90s Sports. So you can start with buying just those lists for now instead of having to buy and oil 150+ cars all at once. :)

We also run Track Days on Fridays, hosted by @tarnheld . Usually this is a series of races run at the same track, using various lists. This week we're doing something different.

We have a thread devoted to making and testing Makeshift Shuffle lists, please feel free to spin ideas there! 👍

Short race report:

Daytona SS in Volvo: Somebody ran into my back not far from the finishing line, thereby propelling me over the line in 1st. Other than that, the outcome was basically purely random. Bump-drafting in the Volvo is kind of scary from behind though, because you can't see anything. We got the Volvo past the 200kph-mark!!

Motegi West in Fiat Panda: The car wasn't that bad considering. Overtaking was rather difficult though. 3rd.

SSR5 in Alfa MiTo: Car was well suited for this track. Got a good rhythm right away and managed to win.

Tokyo Rev. in Peugeot 207: Smashed into barrier in first braking zone on first lap, then rather quickly somehow got into the lead, and got hunted down by tacom, finishing with a dead heat. That was a first for me.

Monza in Maserati: Got blocked a couple of times early on and had to settle for 3rd.

Nordschleife in Jaguar XKR: Started in 2nd gear to avoid wheelspin, was already past another car on the inside, then somehow got a wheel on the grass while braking and started spinning helplessly to the outside. Sorry for that. Started to catch up from last for the first time until in Fuchsröhre I was already on the inside of another car and got bumped off again. Rejoined the track and then suddenly everyone was going off in front of me without me having to do much. At Bergwerk I was in 2nd again, about 10s behind tacom in the Cadillac, had another minor off pushing me back to 12s, then caught up a little until the finish at about 7s.

Good fun!

Bonus Race: Track Day Specials
tday-race-5.jpg

Please excuse my hosting errors, i'm really glad that we had a packed grid but that equates to more possibilities of mistakes for the host. :embarrassed:
The Track Day Specials will surely make a great list, i really liked the Celica, missing the understeer of a FF car! 👍

A quick reminder: this Friday we'll skip the Track Day and have a Spec Event: The State of Matter Cup!

Here is the appetizer again:

StateOfMatterCup16x10.png

It consists of four races inspired by the states of matter in our universe:
  • Solid - Volkswagen New Beetle RS¡ '00 @ Chamonix East, Snow tires, 10 laps
  • Liquid - Toyota 2000GT '67 @ Midfield, 100% Weather, CS tires, 10 laps
  • Gas - Ferrari GTO '84 @ Ascari, SM tires, 6 laps
  • Plasma - Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 @ Kart Space I, 20 laps
See you there!

:gtpflag:

I won't make it to friday's races, but this is a great Idea. I hope to run in a similar event soon. Very nice event poster, too! 👍

I just did some practice at the Matterhorn courses, it's not going to be easy to keep it together in those races.

Yeah, these tracks are crazy. Especially when the distance markers are mowed down and you have to find something else to judge your braking points. Just brake veeery early and assume everybody else does the same. :D

Just half an hour until the premiere of the State of Matter Cup:
  • Solid - Volkswagen New Beetle RS¡ '00 @ Chamonix East, Snow tires, 10 laps
  • Liquid - Toyota 2000GT '67 @ Midfield, 100% Weather, CS tires, 10 laps
  • Gas - Ferrari GTO '84 @ Ascari, SM tires, 6 laps
  • Plasma - Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 @ Kart Space I, 20 laps
We'll start with Reverse Parity Grid Order, if you have no Parity rating yet you will start at the back.

See you there!

:gtpflag:

EDIT: Room is up now!

Well, that was one of those flaky network days, i'm really sorry about you not being able to connect, @Torzilla and the DCs.

The snow race was solid fun! The Beetle RSI is really cool on snow, had great battles with @LongbowX throughout the race! The wet and airy races made me realize that i got a little carried away with the car choices -- the Toyota was quite a handful on the liquid covered surface as was the GTO after a few laps of smoking the tires. On top of that as the atom bonds weakened half of the racers diffused from the race room. The plasma race was a fun finale though, trippy and all that. :D Thanks for coming, hope you liked it.

I'm going to try to join you all tomorrow. From my understanding, I'll need the Traffic, Legends, and 90s Sports lists all purchased, correct?

Will someone be able to walk me through it a bit when the event starts? I think I mostly get it, though I'm not sure how to determine the "lowest car assigned in the roster." Is that jsut based on who shows up or will I be able to figure that out ahead of time?

Correct. 👍 Don't forget the oil change!

I'll be happy to explain anything you might have questions about, either here or in the lobby. 👍

Standard car assignment is based on finishing order, so if you're first you get car #1, and so on. If you come in late or otherwise missed the previous race, you take car #3.

Sometimes, mainly when turnout is a bit low, we will 'move up' the list. For example, if there were five of us racing I might call '#6-10' -- in which case first place takes car #6, second takes #7 and so on. I generally won't do this with anyone getting used to the system, and if I do I'll expressly let them know which car they should be in.

Ok, thanks. Sounds very familiar in that case. I remember back in the GT4 days @Famine had done something similar for a UK LAN meetup.

So the car I use for each race is determined by my finishing position in the previous, for pretty much all races? That makes sense to me, but then I wonder about this "parity" system, and "avg. funkiness" described in the first post. Is that obsolete?

That system comes into play for the longer parity races that are the third and final round in each short series. For those races we use cars assigned according to parity rating -- my parity rating is usually 7 (though I seem to have plummeted to 9 due to several bad performances lately) so I would use either car #7 or car #6 from the assigned list for that parity race.

Parity ranking is also used to set manual grid for the first race of each event, which is usually a one-make race.

Yup, in the club lobby.

Room will be up in about 10 minutes, overslept a little today.

I'm getting "Entry was refused due to network incompatibility with the room host."

Have you dealt with that before, or found a solution?

Trying a new room, maybe that will help.

I was having the same problem joining in another series, rebooting the ps3 can help sometimes.
