Makeshift Shuffle - No Tuning RacesOpen

Welcome Zo, you are the 100th member of the Makeshift Shuffle club now.

Thanks for having me. I'm glad they didn't all turn up yesterday, I might have struggled to get a race, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss those races for anything. I was ace!

1000th of a second in it at the end of lap 1. I don't think we were any more than 1 second apart for the full race.

There WILL be racing today
2:30pm US EST / 11:30am US PST / 7:30pm GMT / 8:30pm CET / 19:30 UTC

Just not sure what or where yet. :)

It's parity week. So I guess I'll dig out the parity picks I have noted somewhere....

It was the first car I ever drove in real life.
My granddad had a dark red one with automatic transmission
and I practised with that car before taking my drivers license.

That's a great story! :D
And what a car to learn on! Advantageous to learn on a Volvo Estate I think.

I first learned to drive on a 1980s Chevy Monte Carlo. :odd::)

Hey Hey Hey, I'm back! That's the good news, the bad news is that due to my new job and time zones I'll probably only be able to make Sunday races. It'll be good to get back on the track, see you Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!!!!
👍
Glad to hear it!

Sorry I'll miss the midgets.
And looks like the racing at Bongo's Very Tricky Hill Climb was very tricky! Looks like an awesome track!

Append:
OH, but I WILL be ready to race on Friday! (Black Friday, I am free for a long 4 day holiday weekend. And I have NO interest in shopping that day. :yuck: :scared:)

Great races yesterday, nice combo selection @watermelon punch! 👍 I seem to be better in yellow cars... :odd:

Friday's Track Day at Bongo's Very Tricky Hillclimb was on the brink of getting postponed, thanks for coming guys, even if a little later. :) The track has really a lot to offer, it's rally feeling on tarmac! That hilltop chicane before the last downhill section is really tricky. :D Even with the sparse grid we had gripping battles, thanks to you fellow racers!
Be sure to leave a rating, @BongoFury will appreciate it. 👍

Thanks for the tip @Zolon32, hope you enjoyed the Shuffle experience. For all Shufflers: Zo runs the Racers Reunited club racing on Tuesdays and is looking for racers for the Trinity Coupe Championship next year, featuring three cars well know to you and also the Hillclimb track amongst other goodies. Be sure to stop by! 👍

Now i'm off to prepare that BIG result update, sorry for procrastination...

You can find exhaustive info in post #1 in this thread. Hope to race with you soon!

@moutonguerrier, it's much more reliable to join events through Community>Clubs>Makeshift Shuffle>Club Lobby than it is to just jump in through a friend too. If you try to jump in through a friend, it can glitch, and not let you join (the club lobbies are public, right?).
I'm glad they didn't all turn up yesterday, I might have struggled to get a race
I wouldn't be so sure. You were fast. I can only think of one particular alien who probably would have been faster if he had showed up.

I first learned in this:
1997_buick_century_custom_kingsville_md_6370049441396881302.jpg

But, I never had the sensation of becoming one with the car like I do in GT6 until I drove this:
10669192_10152863104664090_8694664027089662605_o.jpg

That car is no longer for sale, btw. The only problem it had was that the guy who owned it got old, and started having a very hard time getting in and out of it. After it sat for a year, the oil pump went, so he junked it.

The Buick has no resistance in the power steering, and you have to give the gas a bit of a kick to get moving. The brake pedal didn't give a linear response either, so it would leave you guessing between braking too gently, and suddenly launching anything that wasn't properly secured inside the car. Despite all this, it was the most reliable car in the snow for my family.

As for the Probe, it took a little getting used to at first. It had pretty strong acceleration while idling, so you basically never had to hit the gas to get around a parking lot, or anywhere with a speed limit of 15 or less. In fact, you would spend a lot of time braking, b/c it would kick in to 2nd gear and start to take off. I probably should have considered putting it in 1st for those areas to keep it from shifting. The throttle responded with instant acceleration, and the braking was nice and smooth. Being a classic, budget sportscar, it had no TCS or ABS, so, while I never had the chance to drive it in the rain myself, it apparently performed pretty crappy compared to the Camry sitting next to it. The power steering actually let you feel some of the weight in the wheel, so you could actually feel how much you were turning the tires, and it zipped around corners like you wouldn't believe.

Shortly after 2:30pm US EST / 11:30am US PST / 7:30pm GMT / 8:30pm CET / 19:30 UTC, we shall run some one makes:

1) 4 laps @ Tsukuba // Daihatsu Midget
2) 5 laps @ Eiger Nordwand Reverse // BMW 507 '57
3) 4 laps @ Big Willow // Chevrolet Corvette Coupe (C2) '63
4) 4 laps @ Brands Hatch GP // Aston Martin V12 Vantage '10
5) 4 laps @ Laguna Seca // Mazda MX-5 (NA) '89
6) 8 laps @ Tsukuba // ?????????

Both races at Tsukuba will as usual use the extra chicane and include a 'joker lap' in which you may run the regular layout on one lap only in the course of the race.

Sorry for the super late notice, things have been a little hectic.

Edit: room finally open.

Thanks for coming out today! It was a small crowd but I had a lot of fun dorking about trying to right foot brake and use the clutch. Also thanks for indulging my Murder Midget Mayhem in the last race. :3

I'll probably be too busy to join in on Friday or Sunday (maayyyybe I can squeeze it in, kinda doubt it though) so I'm not sure when I'll be able to race with you all again, or even if the internet out at the farm where we're moving will be good enough to race with. Crossing my fingers that it will, but I'll only know when I have everything set up again out there in a week or two.

Have fun and keep shuffling, peeps!

I might have joined the small crowd had it been clear earlier that an event was taking place. I really dont mean to rant, but a heads-up 24 hours ahead would be a great improvement. Wednesday is usually the only day when I can make time to race online. So being at the console and not having a race is as bad as making other plans and then finding out that there is a last minute announcement.

Nonetheless, I thank everyone hosting and organizing these races. I know its a lot of work and I know, too, that all of you might have a life outside of a PS3 simulation game. 👍

Edit: fixed a typo.

I hope everone's ready for Friday's Track Day! To spoil you for choice i let you choose between two creations by our prolific track builder @Patrick8308. Both are exclusive Member only private tracks, but i'll cover the expenses: ;)

Montichello Motor Club, NY or Bilster Berg, NRW

So pick your poison! Personally i'd like to see Bilster Berg, as it's just a stones throw away from me, so i might get the chance to see it in real life someday! :dopey:

@Goetz, unfortunately the Wednesday racing spot is in jeopardy at least for the next weeks as @amarynceos who formerly did the hosting is now unavailable and i can't commit to hosting at that date. If you want to try to host the Wednesday session yourself, i'd be glad to help you, just PM me about any questions. It's not that hard, just copy the room settings described in post #1 (if you attend an event it's a lot easier, just copy the room settings to your PS3 in the room) and make sure to have a camera ready to document the race finish screen. Post #1 has also comprehensive info for hosting. That way Wednesday is all yours, you don't have to do any series, just do any races you like! :)👍

I vote for Blister, I should be able to make it tomorrow since I'm off for Thanksgiving. Please remember that Thanksgiving would not be possible without the Eisenhower Interstate System.

I have to vote for Monticello Motor Club.
I live about 70 miles from this race track. But since it's a private club, I'll probably never see the real one.

In other bad news topping off a the bloody week I've had, on my way home from family thanksgiving dinner in the Poconos...
:scared: I drove my car into the path of a deer determined to occupy the same space... :ouch:,
And :( killed :ill:, the deer :irked::grumpy: with the Impreza I just bought less than 3 months ago!:grumpy::grumpy:👎👎

The deer was deflected into the oncoming lane, and then I saw in my rear view mirror the car in the oncoming lane's headlights lighting the deer lying in the road, just before they, going rather fast, barreled into the carcass & hit it again.
:eek::ill:
But, we're okay, no human injuries... probably because I was really scanning for deer at the time :odd: and going under the speed limit, because I very nearly hit a deer that jumped in front of my car in the same stretch of road 8 months ago.
(Deer still seemed to come out of nowhere, despite me looking for deer, specifically.) :boggled:

The damage appears to be superficial, but it's kind of extensive :yuck: involving the fender, the front panel, and the headlight casing which was smashed out.

*sigh*

Hope to see everybody on track for track day! I have Friday off, so I can finally make it to a track day! :)

Whatever track it is... at least it won't have woodland creatures jumping out into the lane by surprise from the darkness.

Argh, that's too bad @watermelon punch, sorry for the deer but it's really fortunate that no human got hurt! Hope you have insurance; once a suicidal pheasant tried to cross the Autobahn by foot and ran into my car. :boggled: The poor bird destroyed the bumper and radiator on impact and got stuck there, fortunately not impeding my driving me causing more trouble... The thing was that accidents involving animals with feathers aren't covered by my insurance... :irked:

Well first off, why does your story sound so much more romantic and adventurous and exotic? :sly:

But it's funny you should mention hitting a bird. Because of course I immediately upon arriving home, got on our insurance web site to look over our coverage, and I noticed that our comprehensive coverage states this is covered:
"Hitting a bird or animal"
And I thought... interesting that they specify a BIRD or animal. I think of a bird being an animal! :boggled:
Then I realized they must have to specify this, probably after much litigation over people hitting birds and getting claims denied.
(Turkeys are often in the road in parts of the Poconos.)

And yeah, having a spouse who's had a Miata for years, he's always insisted on keeping good coverage. (The Miata sustained damage from a deer in the Poconos (when he lived there) several years ago.)

It's very common in northeastern pennsylvania of course.

Oh that's really unpleasant news. Seems like road crossing deers is a considerable issue in your area. I mean it can happen on every road going through woods but two incidents in 8 months, that's quite bad statistics.

Luckily no one was hurt, that's the good thing. But sadly that nice Impreza's front was "hurt". 👎

I hope the repair won't be too expensive. And of course that those deers stop stalking you. ;)

Thanks @tarnheld for nominating these two tracks for track day election. It's really much apreciated my creations are being tested at the club. Sadly I won't be able to attend, like always over the last while. :grumpy:

It seems the nomination is a battle between two tracks situated each a stones throw away from one MSS member's home. :D I'm excited what the final choice will be.

At the moment Monticello is my favourite among all my created tracks. I've done quite a few Arcade races with cars of the Track Day Specials list recently. I love the layout and the fact it's rather technical. Hard to say if it will provide thrilling online races, it might be up to you to find out. The track is quite long with resulting lap times of 2:30 - 2:40 in those ~500 PP cars so there's more turns to learn. But once you have a feel for the circuit it catches you, at least that's what it did to me. ;)

Bilster Berg is pretty new so I didn't have the chance for much racing there. The track was completed already but with the pre-update TPE there were a few very annoying bumps I wasn't able to delete. :odd: That's why I reserved the track a while. But after the update this problem is eliminated and I could upload it. 👍
Obviously this track is shorter and might be a bit easier to learn. The layout is pretty cool aswell, I like it when track parts are close together as it is the case here. The 1st third of the lap is an uphill section followed by a download section (2nd third) leading to a fast flat last third section.

If there's no consensus maybe you should give both of them a try.

Anyways have fun racing guys!

It's not official without a banner post, so here it is:
