Mazda sticks with rotary power

Still waiting for those overlay pics where different gens of RX-7 can be seen layered on top of this one..

If I had to guess, both the first and the last generation of the RX-7 will be the ones closest to match the RX-Vision's design, mainly in the middle-to-rear área. The front may match the FD's front somewhat, but the longer nose of the Vision will stand out more in that comparsion...

I'm not seeing any connection whatsoever with the first gen (or second gen) RX-7, other than it's a front engined coupe. I am seeing lots of FD though (grill, rear lights smooth curves etc etc).

As for concerns about the frontal space (between glass-house/door and front arch), if not for hybrid purposes then maybe they've done it to further improve handling.. Engine pushed as far back as possible from the front wheels, true mid front stylee. This is Mazda after-all.

I don't often say this, but for me the design is bordering on perfection.

The most striking resemblence (although rather stretched with the new concept) is the long hood and the short rear end.

Standard sports FR coupe formula. I doubt very much it was ever going to differ from that.

SkyActive Rotary!

I wonder how long before we actually see wing cameras for production cars, they suit it so well.

I know I keep on saying it but Damn that thing is gorgeous.

@Keef

I think this is the car that balances the proud powerful, and stately, long horizontality with purposeful and sporty rakish athleticism, like I've seen no other car except maybe the SLS-AMG accomplish.

It's got all the right pieces in the right places for sure. But it appears to be larger than an RX7, more like a Eunos Cosmo GT-style car. Which is fine by me.

Also, dem quad tails doe. It so reminds me of the FD.

The headlight treatment is amazing. Reminds me a bit of the old Ibuki concept, and way better than the half assed random stringing of LEDs along the bodywork or just shoving them into the headlight fixture.

The only thing I dislike about the concept is how wide it is. Thankfully, that will probably be the first thing to change if the model goes to production.

I agree. This is the single best implementation of LED DRL's I've yet seen. Compare it to the new Lexus IS.....

Reminds me of this

It starts.

Holy hell, it even has air filters sticking out of the hood, that's just mental.
Also, I want a render with the LM55's own livery, that has to be done.

I won't say Renown, mainly because that is already a given for any sports car Mazda concept.

I'm getting grand tourer vibes from the concept. Long, low, quite slender proportions. Hopefully this actually goes into production. If the new SkyActiv Rotary can help to make it more economical on fuel and cut down the oil thirst issue that old RX models had (RX-8 was particularly bad from what I read somewhere), then Mazda's on to a winner.

Back to the size vs. RX-7, here are the specs compared to an FD:

FD
  • Length: 4,295
  • Height: 1,230
  • Width: 1,760
  • Wheelbase: 2,425
RX-Vision
  • Length: 4,389
  • Height: 1,160
  • Width: 1,925
  • Wheelbase: 2,700
Figures in millimeters.

Looking nice. I wonder how it will compare with the 2017 Acura NSX. That has been rumored to have AWD & more than 500 HP from a combined hybrid engine system.

Not rumored, pretty much confirmed and media drives have already taken place.

I just hope this new RX is not an overpriced supercar wannabe. Mazda, please keep it under $40k USD....

That's the thing for me. Whilst I don't mind the looks of it, it doesn't look like a 'budget' sports car. It looks like a 200k super car/gt car.

I think "sensible" pricing should be around TT-S and Mustang GT levels at around £35-40k, maybe stretching to base Caymans and Boxsters.

It looks large until someone stands right next to it, then not so much. I can try to find a photo when I get back to a normal computer.

There we go, now that looks nice.

Those stock photos made it look like a gigantic blob, the front also doesn't look anywhere near as ridiculously long in these photos.

There's also some details in the hood and in general that were practically invisible in the stock photos.

-> Too bad, there is no specific engine specs yet. This is what prevents me for liking the car at least. :indiff:

This car is absolutely freaking spectacular in all and every respect. And I can't remember the last time I said this about a new car, I truly can't.

Yeah this car will only be as good as whatever new Rotary technology they have come up with. Not sure about other countries but the RX8 is virtually worthless here now since the engines are so unreliable, thirsty and lacking in power.
