McLaren MP4-28 launch

Are we seriously counting down the launch of a car that will likely be a mock-up disguised with 2012 parts?

One and something hours to go... do they have a livefeed? :D

Well, usually, their front wing is the only thing they really hold back on since it's easier to copy, also, you'll notice them hiding the back as much as possible since it's a new config.

I don't expect anything too crazy shocking new at all, just love the reveal and in this case I'm looking very much forward to seeing the new team all together in their gear.

You know... it hasn't really sunk in till now. No more Lewis. We're going to be seeing a Perez-Button combo this year in a car that will hopefully still be the class of the field.

Now I'm pumped.

I have no idea where another vide might be; I found it on another forum. But I imagine it might get broadcast as part of the unveiling.

well at least i get to watch this thanks to the c*** that thinks cheap aftermarket alarms are there to chime people to sleep.

Holy crap the p1!!!

It looks like last year's, but as Jenson just said, there's a lot different underneath, he says it's a completely different car, so let's wait and see.

27 for comparison:

Given how 2 teams have revealed their cars to be almost the same as last year, does anyone else think we could be in for a classic season given how little the regulations have changed?

Of course he said that. He's contractually obliged to tag alone with McLaren's corporate line. :indiff:

Wow I spent all this time watching the live stream to see the 2013 car when I could of just seen pics of the 2012 one :)

Some notes on changes:
It has pull rod front suspension and uses the modesty panel!

- Slightly higher chassis
- Lotus-like sidepod intakes
- Ferrari front pull-rod
- Red bull rear suspension
- Very thin profiled roll-hoop
- Redbull lower rear wishbone covering the driveshaft

There is no downwash wing, and the exhausts are covered, so they are also clearly new.
It's a completely different car!

There is no modesty panel. I don't know why people are assuming that the car has one simply because there is no step in the nose.

The 2012 regulations were intended to be a stop-gap between 2012 and 2014, when the regulations will mandate a lower nose and monocoque (the space between the front axle and the cockpit) design. However, because a higher monocoque has more aerodynamic advantage, the teams went for the quickest, easiest and most efficient solution: a step in the nose.

However, McLaren did not. For the past decade, their cars have all had lower noses and monocoques (except the MP4-25, which had a higher nose than its prdecessors, but a nose that was slightly lower than everyone else's). So when the MP4-27 was launched, it didn't have a step nose, because McLaren was already working towards the 2014 regulations, and had been for years before those regualtions were even written.

The MP4-28 has no modesty plate because it doesn't have a stepped nose. It's a continuation of the MP4-27, which never had a stepped nose, and so it makes zero sense for McLaren to have abandoned a design philosophy that has served them well for a decade, build a car that will only be good for one season, and then go back to taht design philosophy in 2014.
