Should I do the install? Will I feel the difference ?

I'd say yes, its smoother than I remember and going through the different acts is far less irritating. =P. Only thing that would deter me is if I really needed the 9GB for other stuff.

The full install is definitely, definitely worth it. I'm having so much fun with this game again, I tried to play through it again at the end of last year but just got bored, this time I'm paying some attention to the story and find I'm rediscovering it all over again... I must've been asleep when I met that woman in Act 3, she cleared up basically everything I was questioning about the game. Loved how they drew attention to the "Blood from the East flows within your veins" retcon, pretty sure I wasn't supposed to laugh at that point.

My ranking of the Metal Gear games hasn't changed (MGS3, MGS, MGS4, Peace Walker, MGS2) but I have a much higher appreciation for MGS4 than I did four years ago.

MGS3 is one of the best I can give you that but it's just a shame that the story was too short. My personal ranking is MGS4, MGS3, MGS, MGS2, Peace Walker.

I finished MGS3 in a week story included. I think its the best, I quite like how the ending hits you hard. It brought a tear to my eye.

Yesterday, I beat Laughing Octopus with the tranq. gun. I'm going for no kills this time around. My ranking order of the solid series......MGS3, MGS4, MGS, MGS2. I haven't stepped into Peace Walker yet.

I was trying to get a no kills playthrough, but a FROG set off a sleeping gas mine and jumped immediately after, got knocked out in mid air and died when she landed... Apparently that was my bad! I think I'll try and turn it into a Chicken emblem run instead.

I like how the ending of MGS3 hits you hard too. What really set it off was the song 'Way to Fall' that they play in the credits that really set the tone after it was all over.

Still, I finally got the game back after a while. Obviously, I'm going to play through it with a no kill run(since I got spotted by a Gekko at the beginning.)

I defeated Raging Raven and just got the "Overhead view -- just like old times..." trophy on SM Island. No kills run going smoothly, Raging Raven was a pain haha. So much greatness within this game, some things I forgot about, like the SM Island flashback. 👍

Just curious, can load any chapter I want and get trophies or do I need to start all over from the beginning with a new game save?

I think that I may have come across a way to make it easier to play the game, but I would like to confirm it with you first.

I got the patch and installed it, but when I started a new game and acquired the Mk. II, I suddenly have a lot of weapons that I shouldn't have like the Desert Eagle, The Patriot, ect. I suspect that I would have gotten them anyways because I punched in the password for most weapons(I didn't on the Patriot), but I was wondering for those who got the patch if when you started the new game that you got these weapons anyways.

I didn't got those weapons, you said you used codes to unlock those weapons right???

No code/password and I do not have those weapons either.

Non-lethal defeat of Crying Wolf and got the Crying Wolf Doll Hidden trophy. No alert or kills going well.👍

The look that Snake gives Drebin in Act 2 was hilarious!

My favourite part is: After beating Vamp, that whole cutscene and when Naomi is staying behind and Otacon says "Why does it always end this way?". Truly a magnificent Metal Gear Solid moment.

Another playthrough completed. 👍

So I turned a decent-ish first real try from scratch in three years (24 alerts, 6 continues, 1 accidental kill) into a chicken emblem attempt at the start of Act 5. I'm now on 29 alerts, 11 continues and 329 kills after 18:18 (I left the game on pause for almost a whole day last week). Not too far off 50 alerts, 50 continues and 500 kills in over 35 hours, then I get the corpse camo.

A hint: if you want to check your progress during a mission rather than at the end of each act, save and quit then view a mission briefing after loading your last save.

I forgot how much I hated the opening action with the gekko. Get spoted once and you screw up your 'no alert' run. Getting spotted is so easy to do. In a room with walls all around except a small opening, get spotted by a gekko you can't even see. Lame.

From what I heard you can be spotted in that small area and that alert won't count.

No, it counts. Well, it did when I played the game last. You have to make sure they don't spot you. It's easy to avoid though. It's been so long since I've played this game, I forgot what path and when to take it to avoid being spotted by the gekko. I looked it up and remembered what I need to do. This wont be a problem for me the next time I play.

There is a story-related Gekko spotting, but it is clearly different from a normal spotting.

Not that anyone was asking, but I'm just looking at the emblem guide and trying to work out the most efficient way of unlocking everything in the game (necessary for the platinum trophy). I think you can do it in 8 playthroughs, which breaks down like this:

Playthrough 1. Do a Chicken emblem run. This, if you plan properly, can encompass the following emblems:

Bear - 100 CQC choke kills
Eagle - 150 headshots
Blue Bird - Give 50+ items to rebels
Hawk - Be praised by allies 25+ times
Ant - Do 50 body searches
Gibbon - Do 50 hold ups
Tortoise - Spend 1 hour in a box or drum
Rabbit - 100 playboy page turns
Bee - Inject 50 PMC soldiers (must wait until after the Act 2 boss for this to get syringes)
Gekko - 1 hour of wall hug time
Scarab - 100 forward rolls
Frog - 200 side jumps
Inch Worm - 1 hour crawling
Lobster - 2h30m crouching
Hyena - Pick up 400 weapons/items
Hog - 10 combat highs
Pig - Use 40 healing items
Cow - Over 100 alerts
Crocodile - Over 400 kills
Giant Panda - Over 30 hours played
Puma - Over 75 alerts, over 250 kills, over 25 continues
Chicken - Over 150 alerts, over 500 kills, over 50 continues, over 35 hours played, over 50 healing items.

I suggest doing this first to unlock the corpse camo because it's very useful for 0 alert runs.

Playthrough 2 to 7.
Get one of the following per playthrough:

Tarantula - Under 75 alerts, over 250 kills, under 25 continues
Centipede - Under 75 alerts, under 250 kills, over 25 continues
Spider - Under 75 alerts, over 250 kills, over 25 continues
Jaguar - Over 75 alerts, under 250 kills, under 25 continues
Panther - Over 75 alerts, over 250 kills, under 25 continues
Leopard - Over 75 alerts, under 250 kills, over 25 continues

During one of the first three of these also get the Assassin emblem (kill or stun 50+ enemies with the knife, 50 CQC holds, less than 25 alerts. Easy way to do it is slit the throats of 50 enemies while in a CQC hold).

Playthrough 8, the big one...

Get the Big Boss Emblem. If you've done the prior 7 playthroughs as described, you'll get:

Big Boss - Play on The Boss Extreme, finish in under 5 hours, 0 alerts, kills, continues or healing items.
Fox Hound - Play on Big Boss Hard, finish in under 5h30m, no more than 3 alerts, everything else zero as above
Fox - Solid Normal, under 6 hours, no more than 5 alerts, everything else zero as above
Hound - Naked Normal, under 6h30, no more than 3 alerts, everything else zero as above
Mantis - 0 alerts, continues or healing items in under 5 hours
Wolf - 0 continues or healing items
Raven - Under 5 hours
Pigeon - 0 kills
Little Grey - All 69 weapon types
Scorpion - Under 75 alerts, under 250 kills, under 25 continues.

All in one go. It won't be easy but it's the quickest way to get them all. It's best to have as much stuff as possible before trying the BBE, even though you can't even carry that much.

I really hate the Scorpion - Puma emblems, they're just tedious.

Oh and the mandatory Gekko spotting, is that in the marketplace in Act 2?

I know that some of you have done this before, but what are some tips to get through the chase scene in Act 2 without killing someone? Every time I tried getting through there, I always ended up taking out one of the frogs and ruining my no-kill run.

Oh, Neema, you forgot to add that in the Big Boss run, you can't use special items either (Stealth camouflage, Bandana).

You mean Act 3, right? Not the bit on top of Drebin's Stryker in Act 2? You pretty much need the Solar Gun, from what I recall. Don't shoot anything that might explode, don't shoot FROGS who are mid-jump... I can't really think of any other advice. If you're playing on Normal you could probably get away with shooting very little, keep a healing track on the iPod and use the Metal camo (if you have it) to halve the damage you take. I don't remember having to shoot a single FROG but I did start the Raging Raven fight with very low health.

Right you are, in fact I think the special items restriction applies to the top four emblems, not just the BBE. I never use them so I forgot they even exist.
