Would it be terrible if we made the thread about Schuey again?

Would it be terrible if we made the thread about Schuey again?

This thread's been generally active over the time since it happened, I think? He's only had one skiing accident and one recovery period so we probably only need this thread.

OT: More silly speculation in the press today that I won't even bother repeating. Sad that a newspaper is able to fill so much space with entire guesswork and rehashing of stuff that they themselves debunked last week. Grrr.

I believe hsv010 wanted this thread to stay on topic, not open a new thread about Mr. Schumacher. I am inclined to agree. Certain threads do have a tendency to derail from time to time.

Back on track, I don't really see anything new. But the situation appears somewhat grim, and I think the below is fitting:

He probably did and I misunderstood. It's my age, you know :D

I echo the sentiments on that banner, I hope that when real news finally it's good news for Schumi and all those around him.

I really don't want to be the pessimist surrounding his condition, but I now don't hold out much hope for him. Miracles can happen with the brain, but the way things currently look, I don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel just yet.

Well it obviously is a bad situation, but these comas are different for everybody, it can take months to begin recognizing the environment his docs said after the drugs are lifted, so I wouldn't stay up waiting to see if he recovers or not over the next few days.

I read what Dr. Tipu Aziz said in that interview, but I also noticed he made no conclusions or predictions, he simply said "its bad." Seems to me the media is trolling for an opinion and no doctor out there can afford to stick their neck out on a case they are not involved in.

For a case as high profile as this, you can't say things without being 100% certain. Otherwise, if a doctor said "we have good hopes", by the next morning the tabloids would have "Schuey making dramatic recovery" draped over the front page.

I could see it coming. Apparently his condition hasn't improved at all.

I want to keep my hopes up for him. The article doesn't specify who these "sources" are, and I really hope they're just saying that to help the Schumacher family prepare for the worst.

I've always had my hopes up for him. I just think now it's a bit too much of a long shot for anything great to come from this. It's sad, and it's the last thing we want to happen, but we need to be realistic.

It looks as though you're right, and it's looked that way for a long time.

As they say, we need to expect the worst and hope for the best :(

That's not something I'd like to read 20 minutes after waking up.
I know how it feels, Same thing happened to me after the loss of Paul Walker. :(

I'm still hoping Michael makes it but at the same time I'm preparing for the worst. :nervous:

I've been prepared for the worst for a while now. I want him to recover, but I don't see his life as being much from now on.
I honestly didn't believe he'd survive the first night. Things got a little better then, but it's like we've hit a brick wall in terms of developments, and I don't see it changing.

It's sad, but the truth.

I hate to say it, and I'm sure we all are already past this expectation, but we will never see Schumi out on the race track ever again. The best we could hope for at this point is that he comes through well enough for him to take care of himself. And, unless there is a gross misrepresentation of what is going on in the hospital, even that is beginning to appear unlikely as a best case scenario. Still though, I hope he pulls through in the best shape possible.

Schumacher condition shows 'encouraging signs'

All you really need to know is this:

Injured Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has been showing "small, encouraging signs" in his fight for recovery, his family says.

"We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up," the relatives said in a statement.

'Hard fight'
On Wednesday, Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, released a statement on behalf of his family because of "an increasing interest in [his] condition in light of the start of the Formula 1 season".

This story checks out! Not that I doubted you, @orimarc , but you know what I'm saying :)

We're such a long way from knowing anything for sure but this is the most encouraging news that could be expected, great stuff :D

It's Gary Hartstein's words, so...

That's a fairly twisted and a good example of why nobody should pay money for tabloids purporting to be "news" papers.

Hartsein's original interviews shortly after the accident didn't say much different from this in terms of general overview and prognosis of similar cases. The Mail are just taking an existing situation and whipping up some froth based on what is really Harstein's only new comment.

It might have been better to just link Hartstein's own words instead of a tabloid's version of them. On that link you'll see when he says the mismanagement occured (as opposed to when it is implied by the Mail to be occurring), and read what he says about the circumstances under which Michael should be transferred. They're all reasonable, level statements when you read what he actually said and are filled only with sadness, not the kind of wild-eyed blame-firing world of snorting outrage that the Mail generally prefers.

I can't wait for the day the Daily Mail goes bankrupt. They're truly disgusting wasters of trees.

Quite right. Fairly soft paper though, so has its uses at times.

@hsv010 didn't mean to sound harsh on you, I just get cross at the Daily Mail. They tell me its because of immigration, bus lanes and income tax :)
