Let's not bring down the thread with that kind of stuff Carlos.

Keep positive. Hope he pulls through. 👍

Sounds like they had to cut a hole in his skull to relieve pressure on his brain, not a good situation to be in...

I've heard of people who had this type of intra-axial bleed (within the skull not outside) and thought they were ok, went about their day and ended up dying or with severe brain trauma. I'm a layperson on head injuries but this is not some non-serious non life threatening thing; I hear about this every now and then; high school football its become an issue to make sure there is no bleeding on the brain after a hard knock on the head... What happens is the skull is not large enough to accommodate the swelling or bleeding and the skull is very strong, the brain is not so something is going to loose and its the brain.

Hasn't he had a skiing accident and been seriously hurt before? Hope he pulls through..

The NOS (Dutch State Television) has reported that Schumacher has had an intracranial hemorrhage. Combine that with a coma and it is really life threatening critical for sure. All we can hope for is that he opens his eyes so that the doctors can properly interact with him and see how bad the hemorrhage has advanced.

I think they'll check him better than they do with you and me. Or I hope...

No no, was just posting that so we could all hate on those people. I was pissed off when I saw that.

It's not a good condition to have, but cutting a hole in the skull to relieve pressure is a pretty standard treatment for this sort of thing.

When you cut yourself - say you slipped while chopping vegetables or something - the blood flows freely as it has somewhere to go. In the case of an intercranial hemmorage, it is a problem because it's bleeding into the brain, and most of that space is already taken by the brain itself. It doesn't take much blood to start putting pressure on the brain, which is where the real danger lies. By cutting a hole in the skull, doctors can temporarily relieve the pressure while they search for the source of the bleed.

Also, it's worth nothing that any patient with a traumatic brain injury is automatically listed as critical. Schumacher would not have been admitted to hospital in one condition and relisted as he deteriorated - he would have been listed in a critical condition as soon as it was suspected that he had a brain injury.

Wait I was right, the earlier report does indeed state he was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. Can't help but think whoever did that to him went to the hospital to finish the job. I really hope this isn't a conspiracy and that he gets well as soon possible.

I remember he broke his leg or foot in a race but I think this has only been his one skiing accident I have headed about.
He broke his leg at Silverstone in 1999. Cost him the title. Also he almost broke his neck dropping a bike or something some time after his first retirement.

There is no evidence that this was anything more than a tragic accident. The Illuminati, Templars, Freemasons, Opus Dei, Elders of Zion, Majestic-12, Bilderberg Group, Phoebos Cartel, Propaganda Due, Skull and Bones and/or SPECTRE were not involved.

Honestly, the suggestion that Schumacher was somehow targeted for murder is one of the stupidest things I've read this year.

Yeah you are right, it was none of those you mentioned, it was Justin Bieber lol

Seriously, hope he pulls through, when I first read the report last night, it did not seem so serious but maybe it has gotten worse. I thought the helicopter evacuation was just because of who he was but looks like it could be bad.

Oh, I know why you did it. That's why I said let's not bring down the mood with that kind of stuff. I didn't mean for it to come across as if you were doing it, not at all.

Same thing happened with Paul Walker and it just angers people.

He fell while skiing, and just about every ski resort has a helicopter on stand-by for just such an occasion because the slopes are inaccessible for road cars.

He is a loved person, NOBODY would want to kill him.

Although, I've heard he is in a coma at this point/ 50-50 chance of surviving WITHOUT brain issues, I really hope he pulls through, he's by-far my favorite racing "guy-to-look-up-to"

I dunno why but something bothers me about the fact they have a press conference scheduled already. I know it's probably just for to tell his fan base but still, press conferences are usually planned for when there is news. Unless they know something already, good (hopefully, but why make us wait a day then?) or bad..

Also if this post breaks anything in the AUP tell me and I'll edit it.

EDIT: Information was wrong, no press conference.

When is the press conference scheduled? There is going to be an update from the hospital around 1000GMT...

My bad, I read reports of a conference earlier in the day and it's been spinning around in my head since. Turns out there will be a written statement released from his management.

Being in a coma isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, in many cases, it can be a good thing. When a person enters a coma, they essentially go into their body's "safe mode", where they are only running the functions they need to survive and it is waiting for external help. For instance, when we normally sleep, the tongue moves around a lot. But this restricts the ability of air to flow through our bodies (swallowing your own tongue can be particularly dangerous). On the other hand, when you are comatose, your tongue does not move, which allows more air to flow more easily.

Some sources say it's serious and others say it's not...

I don't want to look for more info, I'll just pray for Michael to be ok :(

I've grown up watching him racing, i'm really hoping this ends well. :nervous:
I changed signature 3 days ago and now this happens, wth.

Same here.. I don't want to get the wrong idea about this... I'll wait for the press conference..

The first year my eyes were presented with F1 was in '93 (3 years old, cute as ever), it was just jaw dropping. My parents were never interested in motorsport before, but the moment this little boy wanted to see more and more, everything changed. My mother worked for Shell so I got all the cool sponsor merchandise. I think it was around 96 I became a real fan of MS, shortly after my room was packed with Ferrari models en Schumacher things. Still remember driving my Ferrari model on the floor with the Schumacher song (DJ Visage - Formula 1) in the background..

When Schumi left F1, my interest was gone. All the cool guys were gone, I miss it so much.

Well I wouldn't say all of the cool guys are gone, although there's only going to be one guy, nay, two guys left on the active field at the start of 2014 who were racing when Schumacher was - Massa and Alonso.

I really don't want to wake up tomorrow morning and read anything but good news at this point.
