at 11.00 am (amsterdam time zone) there will be a press conference at the Grenoble hospital. ( source www.formule1.nl )

Started whatch him racing almost 20 years ago, always been a huge fan. also hope this ends well...

All we can do is just pray for Schumacher to have strong will to still want to live on his life

The whole situation looks pretty grim. A few doctors commented about it on Reddit. While they're just speculating, they said he likely won't survive and if he does he'll have brain damage.

Which isn't saying much. Brain hemorrhages are known to cause damage if they aren't fatal. I would be shocked if there isn't ANY significant damage.

Felipe Massa took a spring to the frontal lobe at 300km/h and survived.

Doctors aren't really in any position to speculate. They don't know the patient, so they don't know the circumstances or the extent of the injuries. And even if they did, no professional would ever comment on a case like that. I'd be wondering if those doctors were doctors at all, and not people trying to sound more informed than they are.

Well I wouldn't say all of the cool guys are gone, although there's only going to be one guy, nay, two guys left on the active field at the start of 2014 who were racing when Schumacher was - Massa and Alonso.

I really don't want to wake up tomorrow morning and read anything but good news at this point.

What? I'm pretty sure there are more drivers from the 2012 season (last season Schumi raced on)...

Hope he gets through, I read the news in the morning and I was worried, Now I'm don't even know what to think

But pre-2006?

You missed Button and Raikkonen

We all hope for that :nervous:

I'm guessing you mean his first retirement in 2006, rather than 2012? Even so, Kimi and Jenson were around in 2006. Still a slightly mind-blowing stat in my eyes, actually. (EDIT: Look above)

I really hope Michael pulls through this. He was my childhood hero. :nervous:

Pardon the double-post, but reports are coming in from Germany that Schumacher is to be put into a medically-induced coma for the next 48 hours.

Kimi and Jenson completely slipped my mind.

Reports out of Germany suggest that Schumacher is to be put into a medically-induced coma for the next 48 hours.

I thought he was already in one? As he was comatose when he reached the Hospital in Grenoble.

It's not a press conference. Just a statement from the hospital.

If that statement is held in front or to the press...its called a press conference, what else would you call it? a free statement ?

Also, why would you say that just about everything related to F1 from Holland is wrong?they use the same sources most other news media use...i cannot recall reading news from here that is wrong or different than the news i read on other sites across the globe...so please explain!!

p.s. i remember watching the very first race with Schumi live...never missed a race since,in my eyes he is a hero,am very upset by all this :-( .

He was, but it appears that he was revived from it. His doctors would want to test his neurological function once they relieved the pressure in his skull. They would then use that information to determine the best course of action. A medically-induced coma would shut down most of his body's functions and allow him to ride out the most dangerous period.

I don't think they will be calling a major press conference to announce Schumacher's condition, because they've probably got more important things to do.

Like, you know, saving his life.

Oh, they're fine when they're going off someone else's sources. But when it comes to breaking news, I've never encountered a national media so jingoistic. Seriously, they tried to bully McLaren into giving Giedo van der Garde a drive because they claimed Honda owed Jos Verstappen, and since Verstappen wasn't available, van der Garde would inherit it.

Schumacher was the first person in F1 I ever learned about, I hope he gets better, I don't want any more childhood heroes passing on.

Yes, all the latest reports suggest his coma is medically induced. I just read a Guardian interview with a doctor who said it sounds as if they haven't gone for more immediate surgery and are instead riding out the most dangerous part. He's survived for 1 night, that can only be a positive.

For those looking for an explanation of the problem...
Dr Gary Hartstein, former Medical Delegate for the Formula 1 World Championship, took to Twitter to attempt to explain the medical situation Schumacher finds himself in.

"It's quite well known that extradural hematomas, a kind of cerebral hemorrhage, can leave a lucid interval after injury," he wrote, referring to reports that Schumacher was conscious when he was attended to after the accident.

"Then as the hematoma forms, the sudden increase in pressure causes sudden and dramatic symptoms. Pressure must be relieved rapidly.

"This is done with a neurosurgical intervention. Then the victim is observed in an ICU environment.

"Quality of recovery depends on: 1) severity of initial injury, 2) acuteness and amplitude of pressure rise when hematoma forms, 3) rapidity with which it is drained, 4) quality of neuro intensive care and rehab."
Taken from here (Australian website if you are worried, PM).
Just watching BBC news who report that while he was conscious and seemingly OK, the mountain ski patrol were sufficiently worried to get a helicopter in. That decision may well have saved his life.

@pm

Ah come on mate, you stated "its NOT a press conference".... do i have to repeat myself?...

is the person who hosts the press conference someone who just walked out of the ER to quickly say something and then goos back in?...ofcourse not,i am sure Schumi is monitored every single second.

So some countries are biased fore local drivers...wow,thats news innit?...if you think like that, every country news is crap...

But what ever, hoping on good news from the hospital today...thats the most important thing!

The first 36 hours after admission are the most dangerous. A patient can seemingly start to recover, then crash without warning.

Not at all. It's taken direct from Hartstein's Twitter account, which I've been following all day. Not only does it update on the nature of Schumacher's condition, but it's been educational.
